The purpose of this funding opportunity announcement (FOA) is to invite applications to participate as a Research Center in the Pediatric Cardiac Genomics Consortium (PCGC) (http://www.benchtobassinet.com/). The PCGCs mission is to identify genetic causes of human congenital heart disease (CHD) and to relate genetic variants in patients with CHD to clinical outcomes through collaborative, multi-center studies. The PCGC fosters investigation along the translational spectrum of CHD research through interactions with Cardiovascular Development Data Resource Center (CDDRC, previously the Cardiovascular Development Consortium) and the Pediatric Heart Network (PHN). Together, they constitute the Bench to Bassinet Program (http://www.benchtobassinet.com/ProgramOverview.asp) (B2B). Sites not currently part of the PCGC are encouraged to apply and propose new directions for the consortium.

Pharmaceutical company AmerisourceBergen created the AmerisourceBergen Foundation as a separate not-for-profit charitable organization with the aim of supporting health and education-related causes that enrich the lives of its global community. To accomplish that goal, the foundation provides funding for programs and organizations focused on expanding access to quality healthcare - both human and animal - around the world. In the view of the foundation, the current epidemic of opioid abuse and misuse is a crisis that demands attention, action, and accountability. Understanding the need for expediency, the foundation is inviting grant-funded nonprofit organizations to submit proposals that describe how it can best contribute resources and funding to address opioid abuse and misuse. Grants will be awarded for the most innovative and constructive solutions in one of two key areas of focus: safe disposal and education around prevention. Applicants are strongly encouraged to identify and leverage existing, proven, evidence-based frameworks and strategies, as well as existing tools and materials, but may also propose original and innovative projects. Applications focused on education may address a spectrum of needs, but priority will be given to the effective dissemination of the following topics: provider education about appropriate opioid prescribing; patient education about the risks and effects of prescription opioids, and what to do if they have concerns about addiction; public education, especially aimed at rural communities; training to reduce youth risk factors (such as delinquency) and boost protective factors (such as decision-making skills for problem solving and resisting peer pressure; addiction as a childhood onset condition; preventing teens from initiating problematic opioid use in the first place; and advising parents of teens to lock up prescription opioid medications and dispose of old pills.

Through the program, grants of up to $100,000 over eighteen months will be awarded to projects that advance our understanding of the genetic basis of autism spectrum disorder. Data to be analyzed through the program will include whole-exome and genome-wide genotyping data from approximately forty-five hundred individuals with ASD enrolled in SPARK and their biological parents. Approximately half of these families will also have genomic data from an unaffected sibling. Whole-genome sequencing data from an additional four hundred ASD individuals, plus their biological parents and unaffected siblings, is also expected to be available. In addition, a limited phenotypic data set on all participants will be available.

The National Center for Injury Prevention and Control (NCIPC) is seeking applications from qualified organizations for Injury Control Research Center (ICRC) grants. These centers will conduct high quality research and help translate scientific discoveries into practice for the prevention and control of fatal and nonfatal injuries and violence that support NCIPC’s priorities and mission. ICRCs are expected to blend Outreach, Training and Education, and Research activities into a program to reduce the number, risk, and public health impact of injury and violence in the U.S. The over-arching goals for the NCIPC ICRC program are to: Build the scientific base for the prevention and control of fatal and nonfatal injuries and violence. Integrate, in the context of a national program, professionals from a wide spectrum of disciplines of epidemiology, behavioral and social sciences, medicine, biostatistics, public health, health economics, law, criminal justice, and engineering to perform research and provided technical expertise in order to prevent and control injuries and/or violence more effectively. Encourage investigators to propose research that involves intervention development or translation of effective programs among individuals, organizations, or communities. Provide technical assistance to injury and/or violence prevention and control programs in their geographic region, including other researchers; universities; medical institutions; community groups; state and local government agencies, public health agencies; and policy makers. Act as sources of injury and/or violence prevention and control information for their constituents and stakeholders at the local, state, tribal, national, and global levels.

Founded in 1972, the Tourette Association of America (formerly known as the Tourette Syndrome Association) has emerged as the premier national nonprofit organization working to make life better for all people affected by Tourette and tic disorders. The association advances its work by raising public awareness and fostering social acceptance; working to advance scientific understanding, treatment options, and care; educating professionals to better serve the needs of children, adults, and families challenged by Tourette and tic disorders; advocating for public policies and services that promote positive school, work, and social environments; providing help, hope, and a supportive community across the nation; and empowering its community to deal with the complexities of this spectrum of disorders. To that end, grants of up to $150,000 over two years will be awarded for basic and clinical studies on all aspects of Tourette syndrome. To be eligible, investigators are required to have an advanced degree such as a Ph.D., M.D. or equivalent or be allied professionals with advanced degrees such as R.N.s, Drs. of O.T., social workers, and related fields. Investigators from nonprofit and for-profit organizations can apply.

Inclusion of preliminary data is encouraged. The following are important aspects of the Impact Award: * Impact: The proposed research should impact an area of paramount importance in lupus disease. It is the responsibility of the Principal Investigator (PI) to clearly and explicitly describe the potential impacts of the proposed study on lupus and to convey its level of significance. * Research Strategy: The scientific rationale and experimental methodology should demonstrate critical understanding and in-depth analysis of lupus. Experimental strategies may be novel or may be based on strong rationale derived from a literature review. * Preliminary Data: Inclusion of preliminary data, such as unpublished data from the laboratory of the PI and/or data from published literature that are relevant to lupus and support the proposed research project, is encouraged, but not required. * Focus Areas: The proposed research must address at least one of the FY17 LRP Focus Areas. Clinical trials are not allowed under this Program Announcement.

The Michelson Medical Research Foundation (MMRF) together with the Human Vaccines Project have established the Michelson Prizes for Human Immunology and Vaccine Research. The $20 million initiative, funded by the MMRF and administered by the Human Vaccines Project, aims to support young investigators applying innovative research concepts and disruptive technologies to significantly advance the development of future vaccines and therapies to defeat major global diseases.
