The National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases (NIAMS) requests applications for the NIAMS Resource-based Centers Program (P30) for skin biology and diseases research areas within its mission. The U.S. Affiliated Pacific Islands (USAPI) are comprised of the three U.S. territories of American Samoa, the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, and Guam, as well as the three sovereign nations of the Federated States of Micronesia, the Republic of the Marshall Islands, and the Republic of Palau.The public health care systems in these remote islands require assistance to improve the infrastructure, capacity, and local expertise to prevent HIV in high-risk populations and to effectively address the high burden of sexually transmitted diseases (STDs), tuberculosis (TB), and viral hepatitis (VH) in their jurisdictions. Additionally, laboratory capacity is limited, surveillance systems are fragmented, and provision of health care is challenging and costly due to the vast geographic distances and broadly dispersed population throughout islands across the Pacific Ocean. This integrated Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) is supported by the National Center for HIV/AIDS, Viral Hepatitis, STD, and TB Prevention (NCHHSTP) and aims to:Promote program collaboration and services integration to capitalize on the opportunity to diagnose, treat, and prevent HIV, STD, TB, and VH in persons with similar risk factors.Improve collection, sharing, reporting, analysis, interpretation, and use of surveillance data.

The Biorepository Resource Network Award (BRNA) is being offered for the first time in FY17. The FY17 GWIRP BRNA is intended to provide infrastructure support for the development of a GWI biorepository comprised of a network of institutions that will collect, process, annotate, store, and distribute high-quality biospecimens and data from Veterans of the 1990-1991 Persian Gulf War. In addition to biospecimens, this biorepository is intended to house biological data from previous studies (e.g., imaging or -omics data without specimens attached). The development of the biorepository resource network will enable the GWI research community to conduct research that will address the mission of the GWIRP.

The goal of this funding opportunity announcement is to solicit applications focused on 1) providing data enablement for the open-science, systems-biology enterprise of the AMP-AD Target Discovery and Preclinical Validation Consortium supported through the companion FOA (RFA-AG-18-013) and 2) sustaining and expanding the big-data infrastructure of the AMP-AD Knowledge Portal as a collaborative research platform through which members of the Consortium, researchers at large, and citizen scientists can engage in rapid translational learning and contribute to the development of predictive models of AD and AD-related dementias.

Millions of people with HIV/AIDS now have extended life spans as a result of targeted HIV testing services and scale-up of effective anti-retroviral therapy (ART), resulting in increased need to 1) effectively manage large volumes of data; 2) accurately track patient cohorts across space and time; 3) track utilization of human and material resources; and 4) support evidence-driven decisions. Interoperable health information systems (HIS), including electronic medical records (EMR) and laboratory information systems (LIS), are essential tools for collecting, managing, and using these data. This NOFO will support countries to 1) design, develop, implement, and evaluate HIS; 2) develop and improve policy, governance, and infrastructure needed to implement HIS and increase sustainability and country ownership; 3) sustain informatics workforce and capacity development; and 4) protect, secure, standardize, exchange, and share data to improve health.

COBRE awards are supported through the Institutional Development Award (IDeA) Program, which aims to foster health-related research by increasing the competitiveness of investigators at institutions located in IDeA states.

The National Institute of General Medical Sciences (NIGMS) invites applications for Centers of Biomedical Research Excellence (COBRE) from investigators at biomedical research institutions that award doctoral degrees in the health sciences or sciences related to health or at independent biomedical research institutes with ongoing biomedical research programs funded by the NIH or other federal agencies within Institutional Development Award (IDeA) eligible states. The objectives of the COBRE initiative is to strengthen an institution's biomedical research infrastructure through the establishment of a thematic multi-disciplinary center and to enhance the ability of investigators to compete independently for complementary National Institutes of Health (NIH) individual research grants or other external peer-reviewed support. COBRE awards are supported through the IDeA Program, which aims to foster health-related research by increasing the competitiveness of investigators at institutions located in states with historically low aggregate success rates for grant awards from the NIH.

The purpose of this Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) is to solicit applications to continue the Cooperative Centers on Human Immunology (CCHI) program to support studies that will advance understanding of the mechanisms regulating human immune responses. The immediate objective of CCHI is to support mechanistic and hypothesis-testing studies to understand human immunity applicable to the biodefense effort; i.e. innate, adaptive and mucosal immune responses to infection, vaccination and adjuvants. Studies on immune-mediated diseases (e.g. airway allergy, food allergy, autoimmunity, organ transplant rejection) are also of interest, as these data will provide a more comprehensive understanding of the human immune system. The program will also support the centralized infrastructure needed to promote and coordinate multi-disciplinary research in human immunology. Additional objectives are to promote public access to CCHI-supported data and metadata through public portals such as ImmPort, and to develop new technologies to support human immunology research.

This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) is to support studies that are essential, yet also sufficient, for investigators to make definitive decisions about the designs of important clinical trials within NHLBI's mission, the prevention and treatment of heart, lung, blood, and sleep disorders. This mechanism may be used to test the feasibility of novel and efficient (pragmatic) trial designs, as well as determine the feasibility of an intervention, intervention parameters, subject availability, or other information essential to complete the design of a trial. Applications should demonstrate that the proposed pilot studies are both necessary and sufficient to permit definitive decisions about the design of the subsequent clinical trial. Applicants who propose solely to write a protocol or manual of operations or to develop infrastructure for a clinical trial will not be considered appropriate for this announcement. The NHLBI anticipates that the R34 award period will yield robust investigator-initiated clinical trial grant applications for the evaluation of interventions for the treatment or prevention of heart, lung, blood, or sleep disorders.

This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) invites applications for NextGen Tissue Chip Testing Center(s) (NextGen TCTC) that will provide resources and infrastructure for the validation of tissue chips being developed as part of the NIH Tissue Chip (TC) for Drug Screening Program or NIH Microphysiological Systems (MPS) Program. The MPS program supports a consortium of investigators developing accurate cellular and organ microsystems representative of human physiology for the evaluation of drug efficacy and toxicity (RFA-RM-11-022; RFA-TR-16-017; RFA-TR-16-019). The developed in vitro MPS platforms are representative of major organs and tissues in the human body, and need to be validated for their predictive capabilities of the assessment of biomarkers, and the bioavailability, efficacy, and toxicity of therapeutic agents prior to entry into clinical trials.

This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) solicits renewal applications for Biobanks that will support the following NCI clinical trial programs: The NCI National Clinical Trials Network (NCTN; https://research.usc.edu/nci-national-clinical-trials-network-nctn-program/), and NCI Community Oncology Research Program (NCORP). The NCTN Biospecimen Bank (also referred to as NCTN Biobanks) will be responsible for collecting, processing, storing, and distributing well-annotated human specimens from patients with cancer who are participating in NCI-funded NCTN Phase II-III and other clinical treatment trials (CTEP/Division of Cancer Treatment and Diagnosis; DCTD). The main goal is to support NCTN with the state-of the-art banking infrastructure and operations including maintenance of up-to-date specimen inventory. The NCTN Biobanks will distribute to qualified investigators the biospecimens linked to high-quality clinical data (including treatment and outcome information) that are critical for developing and validating biomarkers for cancer diagnosis, prognosis and prediction of responses to therapy. The NCTN Biobanks will work in collaboration with NCTN Groups and Group Statistical and Data Management Centers as well as affiliated institutions to ensure effective operation. Each Biobank needs to maintain association with one specific NCTN Group and needs to be endorsed in that role by the group leaders. NCTN Biobanks will also support biobanking and storage of biospecimens from NCORP cancer control and prevention trials (NCORP/Division of Cancer Prevention; DCP).

Purpose The purpose of this FOA is to support a network to enhance collaborations across NIA's 6 centers programs. These collaborations are intended to leverage NIA's substantial investments by fostering and sustaining the development of novel interdisciplinary efforts in aging research. This opportunity will provide resources to build additional infrastructure and establish specific collaborative activities that could include, but are not limited to, information and data exchange, meetings and conferences, pilot studies, research opportunities for early investigators, visiting scholar programs, dissemination, and other collaborative efforts. The successful awardee will involve all 6 centers programs. Background The National Institute on Aging supports 6 research centers programs: Alzheimer's Disease Centers Claude D. Pepper Older Americans Independence Centers (OAICs) Nathan Shock Centers of Excellence in the Basic Biology of Aging Resource Centers for Minority Aging Research (RCMARs) Edward R. Roybal Centers for Translation Research in the Behavioral and Social Sciences of Aging Centers on the Demography and Economics of Aging These programs, comprised of over 80 individual centers across the US, are highly productive hubs of research activity that are advancing the science of aging in their individual areas of focus. As advances in one area have the potential to address obstacles to progress in another area, numerous opportunities exist for collaborations across different centers programs. However, these opportunities have been realized to only a limited degree to date.

The St. Baldrick's Foundation works hard to be sure that every dollar makes the biggest impact possible in childhood cancer research. The Foundation has held several Research Priorities Summits with many of the country's leading pediatric oncology researchers participating to advise the staff and board of directors on funding priorities. The St. Baldrick's team and Scientific Advisors meet regularly to be sure St. Baldrick's funds make the greatest impact on pediatric cancer research. The Division of Environmental Biology (DEB) Core Tracksupports research and training on evolutionary and ecological processes acting at the level of populations, species, communities, and ecosystems. DEB encourages research that elucidates fundamental principles that identify and explain the unity and diversity of life and its interactions with the environment over space and time. Research may incorporate field, laboratory, or collection-based approaches; observational or manipulative studies; synthesis activities; phylogenetic discovery projects; or theoretical approaches involving analytical, statistical, or computational modeling. Proposals should be submitted to the core clusters (Ecosystem Sciences, Evolutionary Processes, Population and Community Ecology, and Systematics and Biodiversity Sciences). DEB also encourages interdisciplinary proposals that cross conceptual boundaries and integrate over levels of biological organization or across multiple spatial and temporal scales.Research addressing ecology and ecosystem science in the marine biome should be directed to the Biological Oceanography Program in the Division of Ocean Sciences; research addressing evolution and systematics in the marine biome should be directed to the Evolutionary Processes or Systematics and Biodiversity Science programs in DEB. All DEB programs also encourage proposals that leverage NSF-supported data networks, databases, centers, and other forms of scientific infrastructure, including but not limited to the National Ecological Observatory Network (NEON), Environmental Data Initiative (EDI), and Integrated Digitized Biocollections (iDigBio).

The purpose of this U24 Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) is to support a bioinformatics group (BIG) that will analyze a set of asthma-specific common data elements (CDEs) retrospectively collected from the electronic health record data (EHR) of patients in the US whose asthma is managed by a primary care provider (PCP). Based on a large, nationally representative data set, the BIG will identify the current management practices (CMPs) of PCPs that result in the best asthma outcomes for specific groups of patients in different clinical settings or situations. The CMPs will be established by the BIG in collaboration with a clinical consultant team (CCT) with expertise in asthma and a primary care network (PCN), experienced in managing the primary care of patients. Following the BIG's analysis of retrospective data, the CCT and PCN will design and then conduct prospective clinical trials to compare the retrospectively identified CMPs in appropriate patients with asthma. At the conclusion of the clinical trials, the BIG will perform the data analysis for the assessment of the CMPs, refining any of the processes needed to analyze the asthma CDE data.
