USAID is seeking to enhance our malaria vaccine investments through a collaborative design process. The goal of USAID's Malaria Vaccine Development Program (MVDP) is to demonstrate the proof of concept of a vaccine to reduce morbidity and mortality due to malaria caused by infection with Plasmodium falciparum. Target malaria vaccine end characteristics will include at least 75% efficacy and evidence of affordability. USAID intends to support efforts towards vaccines that have the potential to directly protect recipients against disease caused by P. falciparum such as vaccines that target the pre-erythrocytic (sporozoite and liver stage) and erythrocytic stages of the life cycle. The purpose of this Addendum is to solicit Expressions of Interest (EOI) for novel and innovative approaches to malaria vaccine development that would encompass preclinical development through proof of principle clinical studies to motivate advanced development of a deployable, effective malaria vaccine.

VentureWell, with the support from the Whitaker International Program, is implementing a new grants program, BME-IDEA International: Developing Global Connections for US-based BME Design Faculty and Students. Faculty Grants: Grants of up to $4,000 will be awarded to US-based faculty for global project explorations and/or experiences to enhance their professional development and knowledge base within the field of biomedical design and innovation.  Student Grants: Grants of up to $9,000 will be awarded to student teams for the development and implementation of BME projects focused on innovation, design, and entrepreneurship.

ENTELLIGENCE is a program designed for basic science, translational and clinical research in the field of cardiopulmonary medicine. The ENTELLIGENCE program provides opportunities for individual young investigators to promote quality medical care and enhance patients' lives by supporting research (basic science, translational and clinical research) in the area of pulmonary hypertension (PH) related to expanding our knowledge of the pathways involved in pulmonary vascular pathobiology and ultimately, to improve treatment for patients with pulmonary hypertension.

The Greenwall Faculty Scholars Program in Bioethics is a career development award to enable junior faculty members to carry out innovative bioethics research. It supports research that goes beyond current work in bioethics to help resolve pressing ethical issues in clinical, biomedical, and public health decision-making, policy, and practice, and creates a community that enhances future bioethics research by Scholars and Alumni/ae. Each year, the Foundation selects approximately three Greenwall Faculty Scholars to receive 50 percent salary support for three years to enable them to carry out a specific research proposal and develop their research program. Scholars and Alumni/ae attend twice-yearly meetings, where they present their works in progress, receive feedback and mentoring from the Faculty Scholars Program Committee and other Scholars and Alumni/ae, and have the opportunity to develop collaborations with other researchers. The ongoing involvement of Alumni/ae with the Program provides them ongoing opportunities for professional development and feedback and engages them in mentoring of younger Scholars.

The NSF ADVANCE program provides grants to enhance the systemic factors that support equity and inclusion and to mitigate the systemic factors that create inequities in the academic profession and workplaces. Systemic (or organizational) inequities may exist in areas such as policy and practice as well as in organizational culture and climate. For example, practices in academic departments that result in the inequitable allocation of service or teaching assignments may impede research productivity, delay advancement, and create a culture of differential treatment and rewards. Similarly, policies and procedures that do not mitigate implicit bias in hiring, tenure, and promotion decisions could lead to women and racial and ethnic minorities being evaluated less favorably, perpetuating historical under-participation in STEM academic careers and contributing to an academic climate that is not inclusive. All NSF ADVANCE proposals are expected to use intersectional approaches in the design of systemic change strategies in recognition that gender, race and ethnicity do not exist in isolation from each other and from other categories of social identity. The solicitation includes four funding tracks: Institutional Transformation (IT), Adaptation, Partnership, and Catalyst, in support of the NSF ADVANCE program goal to broaden the implementation of systemic strategies that promote equity for STEM faculty in academic workplaces and the academic profession.

The purpose of this FOA is to solicit applications to expand research activities funded under RFA-AT-18-002 and RFA-DA-18-005 on the impact of interventions designed to improve adherence to Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) or linking individuals with Opioid Use Disorders (OUD) who receive naloxone for the reversal of overdose to MAT within the context of states use of the SAMHSA Opioid STR grant funds authorized under the 21st Century Cures Act. Expansion of research activities should increase the generalizability of findings to allow for more rapid dissemination and implementation of successful interventions. The National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH), in collaboration with the Office of the Global AIDS Coordinator (OGAC) is soliciting revision applications for implementation science research that will inform delivery and scale-up of pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) at PEPFAR sites.

This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) is a phased innovation initiative to facilitate multi-omics/integrative approaches to identify omics profiles associated with protection against multiple aging conditions, with exceptional health span, and to refine strategies for utilizing these profiles for therapeutics development. Specifically, a phased innovation cooperative agreement mechanism (UH2/UH3) involving an interdisciplinary research team will be used to support a single project that will conduct integrative analysis of person-specific multiple omics measurements (e.g., transcriptomics, proteomics, metabolomics) generated across multiple tissues; the multi-omic profiling should be conducted on individuals from extensively phenotyped cohorts with substantial numbers of long-lived individuals with characteristics of exceptionally healthy aging and appropriate controls.

This notice of funding opportunity (NOFO) supports the acceleration of a comprehensive HIV prevention, care, and treatment program to achieve HIV epidemic control in selected Health Zones (HZs) in Kinshasa province. This aims to provide evidence-based interventions, including targeted HIV testing, to find more people living with HIV (PLHIV), especially among eligible contacts of HIV positive index cases, as well as community outreach through Orphan and Vulnerable Children (OVC) services; HIV prevention services; TB/HIV prevention, diagnosis, and treatment services; Prevention of Mother-to-Child Transmission (PMTCT) for general population and key population (KP); and associated laboratory and strategic information (SI) services. Through a stigma-free approach, the recipient will provide direct support and technical assistance to accelerate the HIV service delivery cascade and improve data quality and utilization for decision-making. The recipient will also work closely with the Ministry of Health (MOH) to strengthen the technical capacity of provincial and HZ Teams. Capable community organizations are expected to contribute by improving uptake of HIV services, linkage, and retention. The ultimate goal is the elimination of HIV by 2030.

USAID/Cambodia seeks to make a five-year award focused on the goal of improving the quality of public and private health services in Cambodia in a sustainable manner through technical assistance to national and sub-national health systems. The activity will achieve this goal through four objectives: 1) improved policies, guidelines and standards for streamlined quality assurance; 2) increased efficiency and effectiveness of service delivery; 3) strengthened regulatory framework, implementation, and enforcement; and 4) strengthened pre-service public health training. Under these objectives, the award will support the Ministry of Health, Provincial Health Departments, Operational District Offices and Referral Hospital Management to improve the quality of health services through targeted technical assistance and limited introduction of new techniques, approaches, and technologies that improve quality of health services in both the public and private sector. The award will build upon existing, effective quality assurance systems and ensure that they incorporate a focus on USAID/Cambodia's technical priorities (maternal and child health, family planning, nutrition, tuberculosis, HIV and malaria). In addition, a major focus of the award will be ensuring quality of health services provided in the private sector. This will include, but is not limited to, strengthening licensing and regulation of service providers and monitoring of service quality in the private sector toward the development of an accreditation system for both public and private providers.

In Uganda, key and priority populations (KP/PP) have a higher prevalence of HIV and more difficulties accessing prevention and care services. This NOFO will improve the development, implementation, and monitoring of accessible, appropriate, and targeted HIV combination prevention for KP/PP in Uganda. This NOFO will result in an increased use of these services by KP/PP, which will result in these high risk sub-populations attaining the 90-90-90 goals and achieving epidemic control by 2020. The recipient will provide technical assistance (TA) to CDC comprehensive regional implementing partners (IPs) on developing, monitoring, and evaluating new ways to provide combination prevention to KP/PP; implementing and evaluating a nationwide training on gender and sexual identity; and cascading a KP training nationwide to health workers to reduce stigma and discrimination. Strategic information (SI) activities, including improving the collection of routine surveillance data, mapping KP/PP hotspots, and evaluating interventions will support the development and implementation of accessible, appropriate, targeted combination prevention for KP/PP. The recipient will support the Ugandan Ministry of Health (MOH) to improve surveillance of HIV in KP/PP (including population size estimates and bio-behavioral studies) and develop comprehensive guidelines for service provision to KP/PP.
