    South Africa's has been making steady progress towards 90-90-90 targets, but these targets are unlikely to be attained without additional support and resources. The South African Department of Health developed an HIV Treatment and Retention Acceleration Plan (TRAP) in September 2017 to aggressively improve performance in the ART Program. CDC has been partnering with National Department of Health (NDoH) for several years through three consecutive cooperative agreements, 2003 to 2009, 2009 to 2014 and currently 2014 to 2019. This follow-on NOFO will allow CDC South Africa to continue to support and engage with the National Department of Health in developing and reviewing guidance and policy documents on HIV and TB, support surveys and surveillance activities to correctly characterize and describe the epidemic, provide guidance on evidence-based program implementation and coordinate monitoring and evaluation activities and other health systems interventions to assess effectiveness of interventions and program performance and ensure that health delivery systems are functional and structurally conducive to optimal HIV and TB service delivery.

    The National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS) invites qualified investigators from domestic institutions of higher education to apply to the Superfund Research Program (SRP) R01 Individual Research Project grant program. The mission of the NIEHS is to discover how the environment affects people in order to promote healthier lives. The NIEHS Superfund Research Program (SRP) (http://www.niehs.nih.gov/research/supported/srp/) was established under the Superfund Amendment Reauthorization Act (SARA) Section 311(a), which authorizes NIEHS to implement a university-based program of basic research for the development of: 1) advanced techniques for the detection, assessment, and evaluation of the effect of hazardous substances on human health; 2) methods to assess the risks to human health presented by hazardous substances; 3) methods and technologies to detect hazardous substances in the environment; and 4) basic biological, chemical, and physical methods to reduce the amount and/or toxicity of hazardous substances. SRP's broad scope, as dictated by the SARA mandates, allows NIEHS to support scientific research to address the wide array of scientific uncertainties facing the national Superfund program utilizing biomedical as well as environmental science and engineering approaches. Research supported by the SRP uses mechanistic science as a foundation and, in keeping with the broad research themes of the program mandates, the SRP promotes an interdisciplinary approach to develop solutions for the safe management of hazardous substances with the ultimate goal of improving public health.

    The purpose of this Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) is to invite applications for projects to expand, improve, or transform the utility of mammalian cancer and tumor models for translational research. With this FOA, the NCI intends to encourage submission of projects devoted to demonstrating that mammalian models or their derivatives used for translational research are robust representations of human biology, are appropriate to test questions of clinical importance, and provide reliable information for patients' benefit. These practical goals contrast with the goals of many mechanistic, NCI-supported R01 projects that employ mammals, or develop and use mammalian cancer models, transplantation tumor models, or models derived from mammalian or human tissues or cells for hypothesis-testing, non-clinical research. Among many other possible endeavors, applicants in response to this FOA could propose demonstrations of how to overcome translational deficiencies of mammalian oncology models, define new uses of mammalian models or their genetics for unexplored translational challenges, advance standard practices for use of translational models, test approaches to validate and credential models, or challenge current practices for how models are used translationally

ZIMBABWE'S ENHANCING RESILIENCE OF OVC: Getting to ZERO - 0 views

    Getting to ZERO is a five-year program to reduce human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) impact, vulnerability and risk and to increase uptake and retention of high-impact HIV services among orphans and vulnerable children (OVC) and adolescents in targeted communities in Zimbabwe. The strategic objectives of Getting to ZERO are to improve the health, nutrition, psychosocial wellbeing, retention of children in schools, as well as reduction in abuse of children affected by HIV in Zimbabwe. Subject to availability of funds, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) intends to provide approximately $35,000,000 in total funding for this program.     The NIH Research Education Program (R25) supports research education activities in the mission areas of the NIH. The over-arching goal of this NIH Blueprint R25 program is to encourage individuals from diverse backgrounds, including those from groups underrepresented in the biomedical, behavioral, and clinical research workforce, to pursue further studies or careers in research. To accomplish the stated over-arching goal, this FOA will support creative educational activities with a primary focus on Courses for Skills Development, Research Experiences, and Mentoring Activities. The fully integrated educational activities should prepare undergraduate students from diverse backgrounds, including those from groups underrepresented in biomedical and behavioral sciences to enter Ph.D. degree programs in the neurosciences.
