TRANSLATIONAL MEDICINE AND THERAPEUTICS: The goal of the PhRMA Foundation's Translational Medicine and Therapeutics Program is to promote the development and use of experimental and computational methods in an integrative approach towards clinical needs in diagnosis, treatment and prevention. This can involve enhanced understanding of human biological and disease processes but requires a strong translational component. The Association of Reptilian and Amphibian Veterinarians works to advance programs for preventative medicine, husbandry, and scientific research in the field of veterinary medicine dealing with reptiles and amphibians. ARAV also distributes scientific information relating to the field of husbandry, veterinary medicine, and surgery of reptiles and amphibians through the Journal of Herpetological Medicine and Surgery, the official publication of the association, and the annual conference of the association.

Awarded through the ACS Division of Medicinal Chemistry, the annual award recognizes individuals who have had a leading role in the discovery of novel therapeutic agents or who have otherwise made significant scientific discoveries that enhance the field of medicinal chemistry. With more than fifty thousand members and certified professionals from ninety countries around the globe, the American College of Sports Medicine represents seventy occupations within the field of sports medicine. From academicians to students and from personal trainers to physicians, ACSM is dedicated to helping people worldwide live longer, healthier lives. To advance this mission, the association established the Research Grant Program through the ACSM Foundation, its charitable arm, in 1989. Through the program, grants of up to $10,000 will be awarded to support basic and applied research in exercise science. Funding is primarily targeted to new or junior investigators within seven years of attaining a terminal degree (e.g., PhD, EdD) and is expected to provide seed money support after which further funding would be sought from other sources. The Emergency Medicine Foundation endeavors to promote and to provide improved education and research in the field of emergency medicine in order to improve the availability and quality of emergency medical treatment. More specifically, the goals of the EMF Basic Science and Clinical Research Innovation Grant are 1) to promote research within the specialty of emergency medicine and 2) to advance emergency medical care. The grant will award funds for research that advances emergency care. Applicants may apply for up to a total of $50,000 for a one-year period.  

The Francis A. Countway Library of Medicine offers annual fellowships to support research in the history of medicine.  The Countway Library is the largest academic medical library in the United States, and its Center for the History of Medicine holds 250,000 books and journals published before 1920 and is strong in virtually every medical discipline.  The Countway's archives and manuscripts include the personal and professional papers of prominent American physicians, many of whom were associated with HarvardMedicalSchool.  The printed, manuscript, and archival holdings are complemented by prints, photographs, and the collections of the WarrenAnatomicalMuseum.   

This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) encourages research grant applications from investigators who propose to study research topics in blood banking and transfusion medicine aimed at improving the safety and availability of the blood supply and the practice of transfusion medicine. Research focused on improving blood donor health, the safety and availability of blood products, and improving the practice of transfusion medicine is critical to public health. Research designed to better understand the determinants of transfusion-associated adverse events and how best to minimize transfusion risks is also important. Research is also needed to maintain an adequate blood supply by minimizing the risks associated with the donation process and developing enhanced recruitment and retention programs.

The Robert M. Scarborough Award for Excellence in Medicinal Chemistry is intended recognize individuals who have had primary, leading roles in the discovery of novel therapeutic agents or who have otherwise made significant scientific discoveries that enhance the field of medicinal chemistry. Candidate selection criteria include scientists under the age of 50 at the time of nomination. Nominees can be employed in industry, academia, government or a private research foundation.

The intent of this award is to fund an organization that can provide collaborative research assistance under three research focus areas:1) undersea medicine research, 2) regenerative medicine research and 3) neurotrauma research. The award will be issued as a cooperative agreement between the recipient and the Government (OUMD-NMRC (Operational and Undersea Medicine Directorate at Naval Medical Research Center)). The award recipient (awardee) will collaborate with OUMD-NMRC to develop and implement scientific research efforts and share substantial programmatic involvement with OUMD-NMRC.

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) participating Institutes and Centers, in coordination with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), seeks highly meritorious clinical trial applications proposing to explore and enable the development of safe and effective regenerative medicine (RM) interventions using adult stem cells. The International Congress for the History of Pharmacy is a biennial meeting of historians, pharmacists and other researchers and health professionals from around the world interested in the history of pharmacy and pharmaceuticals. This year's Congress is co-sponsored by AIHP and the International Society for the History of Pharmacy, and is supported by a generous grant from the United States Pharmacopeial Convention (USP). The conference will be held in Washington, DC, at the Capital Hilton, on September 5-8, 2019. The theme of the Congress is "The Pharmacist and Quality Medicines." Four plenary lectures and more than 50 papers will focus on a broad range of topics related to all aspects of history of pharmacy and medicines, including the training and regulation of pharmacists and the social, scientific, technologic, and economic aspects of pharmaceuticals and the pharmaceutical industry.
