The purpose of this Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) is to support high quality and impactful conferences/scientific meetings that are convened by data science related organizations whose missions focus on biomedical data science. This FOA, which uses the NIH conference cooperative agreement program (U13), is part of the NIH-wide initiative, Big Data to Knowledge (BD2K). Data science related organizations have a critical role in advancing biomedical data science but often depend on meetings to carry out their work. The International Congress for the History of Pharmacy is a biennial meeting of historians, pharmacists and other researchers and health professionals from around the world interested in the history of pharmacy and pharmaceuticals. This year's Congress is co-sponsored by AIHP and the International Society for the History of Pharmacy, and is supported by a generous grant from the United States Pharmacopeial Convention (USP). The conference will be held in Washington, DC, at the Capital Hilton, on September 5-8, 2019. The theme of the Congress is "The Pharmacist and Quality Medicines." Four plenary lectures and more than 50 papers will focus on a broad range of topics related to all aspects of history of pharmacy and medicines, including the training and regulation of pharmacists and the social, scientific, technologic, and economic aspects of pharmaceuticals and the pharmaceutical industry. The conference will be of interest to scholars in the history of pharmacy and medicine and related fields. Plenary lectures will be given by noted historians William B. The Council on Undergraduate Research (CUR) is pleased to offer a limited number of conference grants. These grants will be used to subsidize the cost of attendance for individuals to attend either CUR Dialogues 2015: Climbing the Ladder to Funding Success: Diverse Sources, Diverse Pathways or Undergraduate Research Programs: Building, Enhancing, Sustaining. Nominees are asked to provide contact and demographic information, a statement of expenses, a statement describing financial need, and a statement on expected outcomes from attending the conference. Historically under-represented groups and first-time attendees will be given priority. The review committee will work to ensure awardees represent a diverse subset of the applicants, specifically across discipline/CUR Division and geographic location. Awardees will receive the conference grant as a rebate after their confirmed participation in the conference, and the submission of reimbursement paperwork.

The conference will be held on the campus of Northeastern University in Boston, MA, USA. The conference will include plenary speakers, oral and poster presentations, and numerous activities specifically for undergraduate and graduate students. As the focus of the conference is to highlight translational nanomedicine research, we will also focus on highlighting start-up companies and well-established companies in the nanomedicine sectors.

The PDF Student Travel Award enables eligible students working in Parkinson's disease research to attend and present data at relevant scientific conferences. Awards are available up to $1,000 and can be used to pay for conference registration, transportation and hotel. Applicants must justify the amount requested based on the projected cost of the above expenses. After the conference, students will be asked to submit reports regarding the conference and receipts for the expenses justified in the application.

The Annual Midwestern Conference of Parasitologists (AMCOP) is a regional affiliate of the American Society of Parasitologists. Our annual conference provides for a gathering of parasitologists and students of parasitology to provide informal discussion of research and teaching in parasitology and the advancement of the best interests of parasitology. This conference is open to all interested persons, regardless of place of work, residence, or affiliation in other recognized societies. The AMCOP Student Grants Program was initiated at AMCOP 63 in 2011. At that meeting the membership decided to establish a mini-grant program, run it for 3 years and then evaluate it for its effectiveness. A committee was established to lay out the ground rules of the program and the committee's members stayed on to evaluate the first two rounds of proposals. While AMCOP is a regional meeting, the student grants are open to those outside the geographic region typically covered by the society. Grants must be used to support field or laboratory research related expenses (equipment, supplies, or travel to field sites). Applicants who are given a full travel award will receive conference registration, housing, airfare and a travel subsidy. Partial travel awardees will receive conference registration and/or housing.

CHADD is now accepting applications for the 2014 Young Scientist Research Fund Awards.  The program recognizes researchers new to the ADHD field who are making contributions to the understanding of ADHD.  Through the Fund, CHADD supports researchers with: an unrestricted cash award of $5,000 each recognition at CHADD's Annual International Conference an allowance to cover most conference related expenses (travel, hotel, registration)  a one-year CHADD professional membership. Applicants must be in the process of completing a doctoral degree or must have completed such a degree within the last three years with the doctoral degree awarded no earlier than January 2011.  They must be involved in conducting research addressing an area of ADHD that will further understanding of the disorder.  Research may address any area relevant to ADHD, including, but not limited to: biological/genetic underpinnings of the disorder; treatment efficacy; impact on the individual or family; school or workplace accommodations; social stigma and discrimination; public health; and epidemiology.

In May of 2013 the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS), with input from the National Institute on Aging (NIA), held an Alzheimer's Disease-Related Dementias Conference in response to the National Plan to Address Alzheimer's Disease. The Conference brought together national and international experts and members of the public to develop research priorities for accelerating the development of therapies for the Alzheimer's disease-related dementias (ADRDs). The ADRD 2013 research recommendations that resulted are part of the National Plan to Address Alzheimer's Disease. This FOA addresses the National Plan's highest priority for human-based research on vascular contributions to cognitive impairment and dementia (VCID): to develop noninvasive markers of key vascular processes related to VCID in Alzheimer's and related dementias. The research program initiated here underscores the need to facilitate the development of biomarkers to improve the efficiency and outcome of Phase II and III clinical trials and advance therapeutic development. These companion FOAs (RFA-NS-16-019, i.e. this FOA; and RFA-NS-16-020 for the Biomarkers Development Projects) establish the Small Vessel VCID Biomarkers Consortium, and are focused on small vessel (i.e. arterioles, capillaries, and venules) VCID in vascular cognitive impairment (VCI), vascular dementia, and all mixed and pure cognitive impairment and dementias with contributing small vessel vascular disease, including such as commonly occurs in sporadic Alzheimer's disease. Awards funded under these two FOAs create a consortium and infrastructure to complete development projects as well as planning that will enable follow-up activities (to be carried out under future separate funding; for example large scale multi-site validation studies and other activities, for future FDA qualification of small vessel VCID biomarkers and use in clinical trials).

The Doctors Company Foundation was created in 2008 by the Doctors Company, the nation's largest insurer of medical professional liability for physicians, surgeons, and other health professionals. The purpose of the foundation is to support patient safety education for healthcare professionals in training and in practice, as well as patient safety research with clinically useful applications. To advance this mission, the foundation is accepting applications for research and education programs and projects designed to enhance patient safety. Grant amounts will be determined on an individual basis based on project budget and availability of funds. The foundation does not support clinical research projects primarily involving the provision of medical support services to patients. Construction projects and the purchase of equipment will not be funded. While general funding for medical meetings and conferences will not be considered, support for invited speakers when the principal focus of their presentation is on patient safety and support for the attendance of healthcare professionals in training at patient safety conferences will be considered.

This two-day conference focuses on translational aspects of addiction research among chemists, biologists, and behavioral scientists. The diversity of participants and attendees at this meeting (undergraduate students to senior faculty, chemists to psychiatrists) provides a unique venue for cross-fertilization among different disciplines and in so doing promotes new and innovative approaches to medications development in addictions biology. The meeting provides a stimulating environment for young scientists who are strongly encouraged to present their work and interact with senior scientists.

The purpose of this FOA is to support an initial series of activities over a 3-year period to build the foundation for enhanced collaborations across NIA's 6 centers programs. These collaborations are intended to leverage NIA's substantial investments by fostering the development of novel interdisciplinary efforts in aging research. This opportunity will provide resources to build additional infrastructure and establish specific collaborative activities that could include, but are not limited to, information and data exchange, meetings and conferences, pilot studies, research opportunities for beginning investigators, visiting scholar programs, dissemination, and other collaborative efforts. The successful awardee will involve all 6 centers programs.

Recipients of the award are inspired individuals with projects that show potential to generate new knowledge relating to causes, cure, or treatment of primary brain tumors/brain cancer. The annual award provides up to $600,000 in funding over a four-year period. Over that time, recipients also receive additional support from the foundation through its network of scientists in the field and an annual alumni conference.

This FOA encourages Research Conference Grant (R13) applications from institutions and organizations that propose to develop interdisciplinary research teams. Teams must include investigators from the social and/or behavioral sciences, and may include the life and/or physical sciences.  The goal is to broaden the scope of investigation into scientific problems, yield fresh and possibly unexpected insights, and increase the sophistication of theoretical, methodological, and analytical approaches by integrating the analytical strengths of two or more disparate scientific disciplines while addressing gaps in terminology, approach, and methodology.  This program will allow investigators from multiple disciplines to hold meetings in order to provide the foundation for developing interdisciplinary research projects.

The award is designated for a graduate student who will be presenting a paper on British art or visual culture at an academic conference in 2014. The award of $750 is intended to offset travel costs. Applicants must be current members of HBA.

The American Society for Microbiology (ASM) offers travel awards to increase the participation of early-career undergraduate faculty, post-doctoral scientists or senior level graduate students interested in teaching careers in ASM's Conference for Undergraduate Educators (ASMCUE).  The award is a $750 travel subsidy presented upon completion of travel and submission of receipts for ASMCUE travel, lodging, and/or registration expenses.  Eligibility requirements are listed for two tracks of awardees. Preference is given for applicants who have not been previously funded.  

The Science of Science & Innovation Policy (SciSIP) program supports research designed to advance the scientific basis of science and innovation policy. Research funded by the program thus develops, improves and expands models, analytical tools, data and metrics that can be applied in the science policy decision making process. For example, research proposals may develop behavioral and analytical conceptualizations, frameworks or models that have applications across a broad array of SciSIP challenges, including the relationship between broader participation and innovation or creativity. Proposals may also develop methodologies to analyze science and technology data, and to convey the information to a variety of audiences. Researchers are also encouraged to create or improve science and engineering data, metrics and indicators reflecting current discovery, particularly proposals that demonstrate the viability of collecting and analyzing data on knowledge generation and innovation in organizations. Among the many research topics supported are:examinations of the ways in which the contexts, structures and processes of science and engineering research are affected by policy decision, the evaluation of the tangible and intangible returns from investments in science and from investments in research and development, the study of structures and processes that facilitate the development of usable knowledge, theories of creative processes and their transformation into social and economic outcomes, the collection, analysis and visualization of new data describing the scientific and engineering enterprise.
