DoD Orthotics and Prosthetics Outcomes Research Award - 0 views

    The OPORP Orthotics and Prosthetics Outcomes Research Award (OPORA) is being offered for the first time in FY14. It is intended to support research that evaluates the comparative effectiveness of and functional outcomes associated with prosthetic and orthotic clinical interventions and/or other rehabilitation interventions for Service Members and Veterans who have undergone limb salvage or limb amputation. The goal is to improve our understanding of and ultimately advance the implementation of the most effective prescriptions for prosthetic and orthotic devices, treatment, rehabilitation, and secondary health effect prevention options for patients, clinicians, other caregivers, and policymakers. Proposed projects should be designed to provide outcomes data regarding orthotic and prosthetic devices, and/or related clinical interventions and must include the anticipated effect on patient care metrics. Collaboration with military researchers and clinicians is encouraged, as are joint Department of Defense (DoD)-VA studies, including longitudinal outcome studies. Studies are sought that: * Compare different patient care approaches. * Include patient-centric outcome assessments. * Have the potential to generate new knowledge that can be developed into new clinical practice guidelines, and/or new prescription algorithms for prosthetic and orthotic devices. * Have the potential to develop new technology for improved prosthetic and orthotic devices, therefore improving patient outcomes. * Provide information on quality of life, reintegration, and/or return to duty/return to work as it pertains to those patients who use a prosthetic or orthotic device due to limb trauma. All applications must demonstrate direct relevance to Service Members and Veterans with traumatic extremity injury and/or amputation using prosthetics and orthotic devices.     A growing body of evidence demonstrates that good adherence to recommended medications can yield better clinical outcomes and reduce downstream medical spending for patients with chronic conditions. However, many people do not take their medications as prescribed. Closing the adherence gap is important for improving the quality of health care, encouraging better chronic care management, and promoting better outcomes. Our goal is to support research that will advance knowledge of innovative and effective approaches to improve medication adherence. Relevant research goals may include development or evaluation of policies, interventions, or tools that have potential to improve medication adherence.

Spinal Cord Injury Model Systems - 0 views

    The SCIMS program is designed to provide a multidisciplinary system of rehabilitation care specifically to meet the needs of individuals with SCI. To be eligible for a SCI Model Systems grant, an applicant institution must encompass a continuum of care for people with SCI, including emergency medical services, acute care services, acute medical rehabilitation services, and post-acute services. For purposes of this program, SCI is defined as a clinically discernible degree of neurologic impairment of the spinal cord following a traumatic event. NIDILRR currently supports 14 SCIMS centers through this program. The funding for these Centers is primarily used to conduct SCI research and to collect and send data to the SCIMS longitudinal database. SCIMS Centers will be funded at varying amounts up to the maximum award based on the numbers of subjects eligible for follow-up in the existing SCIMS longitudinal database. Existing centers with significantly larger numbers of subjects will receive higher funding within the specified range, as determined by NIDILRR after the applicant is selected for funding. Applicants provide detailed budgets for each research project and for data collection costs associated with the longitudinal database. Funding will be determined individually for each successful applicant, up to the maximum allowed, based upon the documented workload associated with the follow-up data collection, the other costs of the grant, and the overall budgetary limits of the program

    The purpose of the AETC NCCC is to supply health care providers with a national resource to obtain timely and appropriate responses to clinical questions relating to: 1) the treatment of people living with HIV (PLWH) and those at high risk for HIV infection; 2) health care worker exposure to HIV and other blood borne pathogens (e.g., viral hepatitis); 3) the treatment of pregnant women living with HIV, and their exposed infants, and a perinatal referral service to connect them with HIV-experienced care providers; and 4) PLWH with behavioral health and/or substance abuse issues.

The Muscular Dystrophy Surveillance, Tracking, and Research Network (MD STARnet) - 0 views

    The purpose of this NOFO is to better understand the public health and clinical impacts of living with MD by conducting longitudinal, population-based surveillance and research of eligible MDs (DMD, BMD, DM, FSHD, LGMD, CMD, EDMD, OPMD, and Distal MD). The current cycle will focus on identifying eligible MD cases, conducting longitudinal follow-up and research, analyzing data, and publishing and disseminating the results. Current MD STARnet sites will collect data to estimate prevalence and survival and additional clinical data on existing MD cohorts. New MD STARnet sites will focus on identifying eligible MD cases and collecting data to estimate prevalence, survival and track key clinical indicators. Identification of cases through population-based surveillance will enable existing and new sites to conduct research on these populations. This information is expected to advance understanding of diagnosed prevalence, disease progression and survival; clinical care and interventions and their alignment with recommended care; disparities in access to care; the association of treatment with outcomes, and the impact of MD on the lives of affected individuals and their families.

    The PH/TBIRP Long-Term Impact of Military-Relevant Brain Injury Consortium (LIMBIC) Award is being offered for the first time in FY18. The overarching goal of this effort is to improve our understanding of the impact of mild TBI (mTBI)/concussion on Service members and Veterans. The FY18 PH/TBIRP LIMBIC Award will support a Consortium conducting a single large longitudinal study and associated sub-studies within the scope of the Program Announcement/Funding Opportunity.     The Air Force Office of Scientific Research (AFOSR) seeks unclassified proposals for broad-based research and development aimed at using lasers and other light source technology to develop applications in medicine, photobiology, surgery, and closely related materials sciences, with applications to combat casualty care and other military medical problems. This announcement is primarily directed toward university-based medical institutions; however, all qualified and responsible prime applicants located in the United States are eligible to submit proposals. The highest priority will be extended to proposals up to three (3) years duration to be conducted by teams of physicians, biomedical scientists, physical scientists, and engineers. The efforts proposed may be basic or applied research, and must have direct relevance to combat casualty care or other military medical priorities.     The purpose of the MSE Program is to provide grants to public institutions of higher education to expand or support graduate education for medical students preparing to become physicians in the top quintile of states with a projected primary care provider shortage in 2025.2 The program is designed to prepare and encourage medical students training in the most underserved states to choose residencies and careers in primary care that serve tribal communities, rural communities, and/or medically underserved communities (MUCs) after they graduate.     This announcement solicits applications for fiscal year (FY) 2017 for a new, three-year initiative entitled Improving HIV Health Outcomes through the Coordination of Supportive Employment and Housing Services-Demonstration Sites. HRSA will award up to ten (10) grants of up to $300,000 each per year for three years to support the design, implementation, and evaluation of innovative interventions that coordinate HIV care and treatment, housing, and employment services to improve HIV health outcomes for low-income, uninsured, and underinsured people living with HIV (PLWH) in racial and ethnic minority communities. This Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary's Minority AIDS Initiative Fund project is also supported, in part, through Special Projects of National Significance. Providing effective HIV care for communities at the greatest risk for poor health care outcomes involves addressing structural factors, such as poverty, lack of education, unemployment/underemployment, homelessness and other social determinants of health.
