"... information on the process of planning and executing student video assignments as a guide for other faculty... This document outlines their thoughts... on best practices for using video in student assignments."
A must read for any faculty considering or preparing a video assignment, which could include video journals, digital story-telling, or anything dealing with YouTube, FlipCams, or VoiceThread.
I just wanted to pass along this thought provoking video. It might be a good introduction to a nurse educator course.

There are a series of these animated talks, many of them available for the iPhone. There is more information at the end of the video.
iNet has done a featured tool article on Flip Video focusing on a project that Dr. Nancy Short did with her Doctor of Nursing Practice Health Policy students. This article gives more information and project ideas abou the Flip Video at an elementary school level. (We in higher ed have a lot to learn from those teachers!)
Here's another YouTube group video contest. This one is for high school students and deals with health and world view. The rules/guidelines might be helpful in developing your own video contest or class assignment.
This video is of Michael Wesch talking to the Library of Congress is a must see for educators.
Whe you have 55 minutes, you should watch it. It's worth your time, I promise.
Wesch also spoke at the CHAT festival in Chapel Hill earlier this year that Newman and I attended. He hit on some of the same points, but this talk below is quite extradordinary. It is an expansion of his short video by the same name.
Ok, this has gotten me motivate to try out my flip video this weekend....the potential use is great,...plan is I am going to try using it to highlight a new piece of technology that we just purchased called the sonic care, I have used this device, which is like an ultrasound machine to a vein on a person that was next to impossible to start.
This is great news. Good luck! I'm interested to find out how you edit the movie files. I've yet to find a good solution - the .mp4 files require file conversion to get into my editing software. If you have iMovie, it's not a problem ... I think.
Let us know how it turns out!
This article has a great video in it that shows variation in magazine design for the new iPad. Magazine design may lead the way for publication/Web surfing navigation design.
Digital natives as learners:"Engage them, don't enrage them". This is a video (7:52) that explains some of the issues related to 'Digital Native' students in a non-digital school structure.
"The goal of providing the handheld device, the school said in a statement, was to improve the learning experience and give students flexible access to health care--related content. The combination media player-camera-video recorder-personal digital assistant with WiFi capabilities was loaded with mobile applications students will need in the classroom as well as an app to help them prepare for the nursing board examination."
I ran across this beautifully done video story today, and thought it might be a good resource for community health.
I could see it as an intro to a discussion board prompt, e.g. Is a clinic like this ethical?
After looking at voice thread I started thinking of ways in which I could utilize this technology in teaching my undergraduate students and it dawned on me that I could post a picture of the Amish and ask my students to share comments about the amish culture which would be useful in facilitating optimal outcomes with clients.
At the graduate level, I was thinking of posting a diagram of a nursing model and asking the students to give an example of an application of the model to a client scenario.
And in teaching nurse practitioners, I could post a picture of a patient and tell the story then ask students to identify a possible differential with rational. With 6 students in a clinical, 6 possible differentials could be generated from viewing a picture of the client and listening to the story in context.
It also means the return of nature's pest: mosquitoes. If you have ever wondered: Why do these annoying insects seem to swarm only to you, while leaving your friends free from having to deal with irritating bug bites? Tech Insider wondered the same thing, and put together this helpful video that sheds
