A wonderfurl collection of .pdfs and mp3s for students and teachers who are studying music theory. Hosted by the Cleveland Institute of Music, there are hundreds of prime examples of music laid out by theory concepts such as scales, chords, forms, voicings, modulations, etc.

The Children's Music Workshop website provides numerous resources for students, parents, and educators involved with band or orchestra.  It includes advocacy information for parents and helpful videos for students that show the basics of each instrument.  

This YouTube Channel is dedicated to jazz music education, sponsored by Jazz at Lincoln Center. It is filled with videos about jazz pedagogy and heritage. This is a great site for music educators to keep their jazz education up-to-date, and for students who have an interest in jazz music. Students are able to take video lessons or learn about different styles and composers of jazz. What a great resource about America's own style of music.

This is a good resource for folk melodies from Europe. It's an open-source site with an extensive written database.

If you're looking for free downloads or shareware, this is where you'll find it. Particularly helpful is the central news reel with regular new articles and tips.

A fun resource for students to use. The site is regularly updated with popular songs that are available for free. The interactive Recorder Karate can be used with a microphone to show what needs to be improved.

This app can be used on all devices be cause it is a to do list in the cloud. Add the things you need to keep track of and do for a day or week or even month. Give yourself deadlines and set priority levels. Get the premium version for more advanced options such as collaborations.

This app allows the teacher to notate music by hand, and then see it notated digitally right above the handwritten part. The best part is that the app will then play the music back and allow the classroom to hear what it is supposed to sound like.

There was a time when music techniques and sounds were somewhat unique to an individual or group. With the technology that exists today, it is almost impossible to keep anything a secret for long. Along with that technology, though, comes the opportunity to create virtually anything one sets one's mind to.

This program allows you to take anything that is showing on your handheld devices and display it up on a screen. Just like the function of AirPlay on an AppleTV, it shows everything that you can see. It is much cheaper than an AppleTV and requires no chords. Both audio and video will be reflected.

There is a supposed "separation of church and state." However, Gospel music can be a key source for teaching elements of harmony and rhythm and can help fill in certain gaps in music history.

The Library of Congress website has a plethora of free historical recordings. For example, I found The Liberty Bell March from 1905. You should listen to the recordings in advance to check for inappropriate language. I think it would be very valuable to have authentic historical recordings for students to listen to, which would present the opportunity to discuss the history of recording music.

Similar to SmartMusic, you can have students record segments or pieces for you and send them in for assessment or check off purposes. It's design is to save time and to encourage home practice with the use of their devices.
