These are TED Talks specifically about music, music technology, and the changing world of music making.

TED is a great site for any subject. It is filled with videos and articles on a wide array of topics. Topics are basically limitless.

For teachers with a SmartBoard, this website gives free music games for use in the classroom.  Most of these games are appropriate for K-5 and cover a variety of music topics.  Intervals, pitch discrimination, listening, and basic music theory are the topics covered in these games.

I'll definitely have to explore these games on my own before taking them into the classroom. So far, some of them seem pretty advanced for my students. I also am not sure about how to play many of the games because of lack of directions. 

A collection of SmartBoard apps for use in a general music classroom setting. Focus is on beginner music theory with such topics as pitch discrimination, basic scales and song structure. Files are Flash-based and can be used on a SmartBoard seamlessly.

This site provides a plethora of jazz education advice. This is made by either professional jazz musicians or educators. It covers topics as style, improvisation and jazz history. This type of information would be useful to jazz educators.

The Music Tech Teacher Podcast hosted by Katie Wardrobe has become one of my favorite podcasts. I am teaching music technology for the first time this year and various episodes regarding productivity for music teachers and using technology such as iPads in the classroom are extremely helpful.

This is a very comprehensive website with articles dealing with just about any topic a band director would ever need when it comes to the classroom. There are instrument specific sections as well as help with instrument repair. I found composer interviews as well as information regarding motivation of students to fundraise.

The purpose of this website is to compile links to access all things band director related. The website includes information and inspiration for topics ranging from fundraising to baton technique. Most of, if not all of the information is compiled to benefit students either directly or indirectly in their classrooms.

The purpose if this site it to create easy access to the most read blogs of 2016 in one location. Topics such as: What Students Have to Gain From the Arts, Effective Lesson Planning for the Secondary Choral Director, 3 Reasons Music and Arts Education is a Shining Light, Music Teacher Resumes Revisited: Planning, Creating, and Maintaining, Ten Tips to Transform a Flutist into a Piccoloist, Teaching Concert Etiquette, How to Teach Your Students the Attention They Need to Succeed...etc. are explored. All these topic are related to student success in the music classroom.

Informational website on specific topics. Some topics include Music Business, the music brain, why music makes you smarter, etc. This would be great for a general music class. There are numerous articles and videos shared on the website.

This is a discussion by New York Times columnist, David Brooks, and Kathy Fletcher, and the director of Turnaround Arts Initiative about the important work that Turnaround Arts does through the strategic use of the arts. The discussion talks about how music facilitates brain development, why certain things in music leave people fascinated, and what magic music brings to emotion. The discussion also unfolds how the arts, and music education in particular opens the student's mind to memorisation. David Brooks says "Students understand better when topics are introduced through music". I agree with that because most students become more alert when a topic is introduced through song and it fosters the interest of students. Therefore we need arts to succeed in education. A lot of artists came from struggling backgrounds so when they talk to children that would like to succeed in the music world but are frightened that they'll never make it, they tell them "I know what you are going through but you can make it". This encourages those children to push on and excel in the arts. Kathy Fletcher says music boosts critical thinking and confidence which is ideal for students and they end up excelling in all other fields. The arts connect us all through music in a way that music created is shared all around the world. Partnerships are created to perform music and people come together to listen to music. This makes us one.

MusicTheory.net is a great website to teach theory to students. It has lessons on a variety of topics, interactive exercises to support the theory topics, and tools that could be used in conjunction with other activities in the classroom. There are also apps available for devices. The best part is that the exercises can be customized (scroll down to the bottom of the exercise or tools pages) with a permanent link so that students can take quizzes or have additional practice for specifics without having to change the settings for themselves. For example, note identification can be customized to the clef and range of a specific instrument and sent to those students for practice or quizzes.

The podcast give different viewpoints and advice to music teachers.

This website is run by and elementary music teacher who has chosen to share her experiences with others online. Podcasts are available on the site and cover a range of topics such classroom management to steam in the music classroom. Her podcasts at times include guests that share their insights on a particular topic. The podcasts are also available on SoundCloud which makes them accessible without having to use the website.

This website provides a multitude of tools for music teachers, among other subjects. The website contains lesson plans and teaching strategies for grades K-12. There are lessons on world music, on instruments (such as building instruments), as well as the history of musical genres. The free version is limited, but the premium version is fairly inexpensive.

Resource for UF Masters of Music Education. This site is helpful in planning lessons for application of new ideas. I love that it has something to offer every teacher from grades K-12.

I use this website sometimes to help out with some of my lesson plans if I'm in need of worksheets to help back up the topic that is chosen for that particular week. This is good for any teacher because it provides a variety of different worksheets for many topics.

WMEA.org is the Washington State Music Educators Association website. Here they provide resources to educators that cover a broad spectrum of topics. These topics include, Job Availability, publications, conference information, student events and advocacy resources.

Digital audio workstation software for PC (or Mac with Bootcamp). The software comes in three versions: Home Studio, Recording Studio, and Pro Studio, each with increasing features. The DAW supports MIDI, digital audio and video, and has integrated VST and loop libraries. These products are highly rated in online reviews and comparisons, mainly for their combination of low cost, full features, and ease of use. The website also features a library of training videos for Mixcarft. Topics cover topics including basic software and hardware setup, virtual instruments and plugins, and software functions.

This website is a blog focus on the integration of technology in the music classroom. It appears to be a great resource to compliment the topics we have discussed in this course.

These videos are created by Music Express magazine and each one deals with a different topic of music education. The videos have four main characters and are well-made and entertaining for students. The topics explored are basic general music concepts like steady beat, rests, high/middle/low and more. Each episode has a catchy song that students enjoy singing along to.

These bands include the active bands, Army Reserve Bands, National Guard bands, and the U.S. Army School of Music Band. Each band will also have smaller ensembles such as jazz bands and rock bands. The site also has recordings of the Army band performing some traditional ceremonial songs including marches, fanfares, and even bugle calls that are found on the music tab. This is very beneficial if you are are trying to perform a patriotic show or performing for the school's JROTC programs. There are pages for the National Anthem and The Army Song that provides the history of the songs as well as the lyrics and recordings. You can click on the songs titles to download mp3 files. The education tab is great because it has a list of U.S. Army Music Master Classes for every instrument and covers a wide range of topics. From basics and fundamentals to practicing to percussion. Master classes are added periodically. When you click on the title of the master class, a PDF will download. You can also request for a clinicians, clinic teams, master classes, or guest conductors to come out to your school.
