This interactive game helps students understand the layout of an orchestra, the ranges of the individual instruments, and how they sound individually and together in an ensemble. This is an excellent tool for elementary music!

This is a companion website to a series on improvisation for students, ranging from beginner to advanced. Has anyone ever used this series? I'm considering buying it to see what it has to offer.

This is a great website that provides free sheet music for various instruments as well as music theory lessons. For private piano lessons, I search for classical and popular sheet music. There is sheet music for levels ranging from 1 (easy) to 5 (most advanced). The score arrangements appear to be suitable for beginners. The arrangements also make it an easy transition for when students are ready to learn to original scores.

MusicTheory.net is a great website to teach theory to students. It has lessons on a variety of topics, interactive exercises to support the theory topics, and tools that could be used in conjunction with other activities in the classroom. There are also apps available for devices. The best part is that the exercises can be customized (scroll down to the bottom of the exercise or tools pages) with a permanent link so that students can take quizzes or have additional practice for specifics without having to change the settings for themselves. For example, note identification can be customized to the clef and range of a specific instrument and sent to those students for practice or quizzes.

A youtube channel that focuses on providing short lessons on jazz history/tradition, instrumental technique, and the jazz language.

This YouTube channel is a great resources for jazz educators in both a private and ensemble setting. The videos cover the whole jazz orchestra, providing videos of technique as well as ways to develop students' improvisational skills.

Jazz Academy is a YouTube library with free lessons on jazz for educators and students. Lessons range from the instrument specific techniques, jazz history, master classes with professional musicians, and lessons on different styles of music. From these videos, students receive important information from professional jazz musicians. As a jazz educator, there are also videos that improve my understanding of specific techniques and styles.

West Rowan High School has proved scale sheets for each instrument at different levels of ability. This source provides easy to read full range scale sheets for students practice their scales with. For younger students, one octave scale sheets are available to begin practicing their scales without the extra notes they do not know how to play yet.

The podcast give different viewpoints and advice to music teachers.

This website is run by and elementary music teacher who has chosen to share her experiences with others online. Podcasts are available on the site and cover a range of topics such classroom management to steam in the music classroom. Her podcasts at times include guests that share their insights on a particular topic. The podcasts are also available on SoundCloud which makes them accessible without having to use the website.

This is a great resource for music educators that shares thousands of free works of music. Educators can access thousands of compositions along with translations. Many of these compositions are no longer in print.

This website offers many free choral pieces that can be used in the classroom. It assists in a budget-friendly way for performance classrooms to still have repertoire available.

The purpose of this resource is to categorize and house a large quantity of choral music. As a resource this site could be used to find a range of music for performances, warm up exercise, chorales and instrumental playing. The options for voicing and parts in very broad which makes the amount of music available vast. When searching composers, it is best to know specifics as some composers share similar surnames.

For those to whom the trombone is not a principal instrument, the question of slide positions can be a challenge when teaching beginner students. This website provides a helpful listing of slide position charts for a wide range of the trombone family.

This is the page for the Nations Association for Music Education. This site is full of information for teachers and students alike on the national level. Music research and advocacy information is also available. NAFME was formerly called MENC.

The National Association for Music Education's webpage is valuable online tool for music educators of all fields. It offers helpful resources for not only teachers, but students as well. There is a wide variety of links and posts to read through ranging from blog posts to teaching standards.

NAFME is a vital resource for music educators. This website provides communication and collaboration via forums, lesson plans, standards, frequently posted articles, and even more resources for music educators of all varieties. It is an excellent way to stay involved in the music education community, and it continuously strives to improve the state of music education nation-wide.

ACDA website with links to choral journals, library archives, festival information and more.

This is the official ACDA website. You can find information about conferences, as well as access resources and connect with colleagues. If you teach choir, being a member of ACDA is a must.

The purpose of this resource is wide and varied. Not only does this resource provide choral music educators with a professional development community but also looks at a range of topic regarding singing both in the individual and choral setting. Membership in this organization does cost a fee but there are many benefits for music educators who teach choir.

Pro Tools is a professional level digital audio workstation. It is used in many professional recording studios and music production facilities. Pro Tools is often praised for its near-limitless capabilities, but its high cost and memory and processing requirements may make it difficult to use for teachers or hobbyists with lesser computer systems. Avid offers different versions of the software that ranges from the free, limited capability Pro Tools "First" to the full-featured Pro Tools Ultimate, which is designed for professional recording and processing. The free version, Pro Tools First is an excellent way for new users to try out professional DAW software without making a large financial commitment.

Apronus Piano is an online piano that works on both touchscreens and with piano keyboards. As opposed to some online keyboard that play C when you press the letter C, D when you press the letter D, it uses the keyboard as close to a piano as possible. The second row of keys corresponds to the white keys on the piano and the number row corresponds to the black keys as they occur (with one or two exceptions). The bottom two rows can be used to play chords. The range of the keyboard can be adjusted to hear different notes. This online piano can be used as extra practice for general music or piano students or as a substitution for a real piano if keyboards are not available but computers are available. It could also be used in conjunction with composition assignments or for choral students to practice vocal lines.

These TED Talks focused on Education are an excellent resource for any educator, including Music Educators. These podcasts are an efficient way to learn new information while commuting, doing chores around the house, and even dutifully listening while taking notes. These podcasts range in topics, and cover anything from specific concepts to worldwide educational trends.

Make moments matter is a blog run by an elementary music teacher. His blog focuses on classroom ideas, decoration, and lesson ideas. This website could be a great resource for any music teacher. Novice teachers could benefit from having a range of ideas and helpful tips available to them. Also, veteran teachers could find some new ideas to incorporate into the classroom form lesson to decorations. The blog posts on the website are thoughtful and meant to be advice to those that chose to read them.

This website is an in depth resource for woodwind fingerings, offering a comprehensive list of fingerings for instruments ranging from clarinet to sarrusophone!

Folk Song Collection that may be used to help find songs for teaching almost any musical concept. Primary and Secondary Sources with authentic notation and referenced material.

The American Folk Song Collection is a website that music educators can use to search for hundreds of folk songs. Each song includes a PDF of lyrics, melody, game/dance directions, song analysis, rhythms, and original source (some also include recordings). The website also includes basic information about the Kodaly approach.

The Kodaly Center website is a valuable resource for all music teachers and especially those teaching elementary general music. The website contains videos about the history and philosophy of Kodaly, as well as recent news and upcoming events being held at the center. The most impressive feature of this site is the pubic domain library of songs and the precise ways they are categorized. Songs can be searched and categorized by: Origin, region, state, subject, song type, grade level, tonal center, scale, tone set, melodic range, melodic element, melodic motive, rhythmic element, meter, form, formal analysis and game type. Once you find a song you can see all of this detailed information as well as (in most cases) listen to the song, often sung by a child or group of children.

Ditto Music's blog is dedicated to providing musicians of all levels with advice to further their careers. The website focuses on technology, as well as marketing strategies. I think that this is a very interesting resource for students who are interested in being working musicians. Their blog posts range from how to add music to a playlist on Spotify to preparing for a studio session and even advice on how to become an opening act for a major musician.
