    I use this website with my beginning bands when they are first starting to pick what instrument they want to play. It categorizes instruments by family and gives a brief description of each with a sound clip. There are strings, percussion, woodwinds, and brass. The woodwind section is missing tenor and bari sax, and the brass section is missing euphonium but otherwise it is quite complete. I usually show this while having the actual instrument out.

In addition to this being a comprehensive set of resources, it is also through a reputable source.

      This method works as feedback. I use them currently in my school.

  • Children are used to taking conversational breaths; we need to teach them to breathe like musicians
  • For the inspiration I recommend using a breathing tube – basically a ½ to ¾-inch piece of PVC coupling
  • I use “sizzling” and “long tones.” Sizzling is great because you have the students create a natural resistance that simulates what it is like playing the horn
