This YouTube video gives excellent but brief instruction on the topic of tone color or timbre. What is tone color? The presentation uses several instruments to illustrate what timbre is and how composers might use this musical element to evoke a mood or paint a musical picture.

Teachers can use the informaion from these research studies and blogs to ensure that their music program is genuinely helping all of the students and to educate themselves on the importance of music education/its place in todays changing views on the arts as a core subject.

Artie Almeida has a ton of free downloads to accompany not only her lessons that are in her books, but also free printables that can be used in many original lessons.  Many of her ideas are unique to other lessons I have seen around.

Excellent tool for percussionists to HEAR what the 40 essential rudiments are supposed to sound like and gives a very good methodology for practicing them slowly and gradually improving. The one downside (and it is significant in my philosophy) is that many of the illustrations use traditional grip, whereas I teach only match grip.

This page is a one stop shop for all snare drum rudiments. Each rudiment has a video showing the proper technique. In addition, there is a written out version of each rudiment as well as different tempi with which it can be practiced. This is a great resource to share with all percussion students, especially those preparing for auditions.

Great website for teachers who are not percussionist. Rudiments are hard for anyone to memorize if you are not using them everyday. This site is also great for students who are still learning rudiments. One can easily click on a rudiment and can hear what it is supposed to sound like at different tempos, and what it looks like in standard notation.

Dr. Noa Kageyama is a sport and performance psychologist with a music background.  He provides very interesting and introspective articles to help people improve themselves as people and performers, and offers a course to teach you how to overcome performance anxiety.  Great resource for people who struggle with performing.

The purpose of this website is to provide music educators with video blogs on software, apps, teaching ideas, and useful strategies that can improve instruction. The content is in the form of video/audio and/or power point presentations. It is created by a network of music educators who have used the material before and are describing the benefits and/or problems they have had with it.

Robin's video blogs are a great resource for teachers. She demonstrates and reviews ways that technology can be used in the music classroom. You can subscribe to her weekly videos, which are both fun and informative.

A tremendous resource for creating performing, understanding and responding to music with an iPad. Also, there are links for general administrative and productivity apps which are useful for other academic disciplines.  Additionally, there is a lot of information that is useful about hardware and connecting the iPhone/iPod touch/iPad. Great resource for using iPads in the music classroom, which is what is needed for me personally.
