This website is a great resource for K-5 music.  There are jokes, games, and information regarding famous composers, including recordings of famous pieces of music.  This can be used by a classroom of kids in a computer lab, or by a teacher for lesson planning.

Classics for Kids is a resources for teachers, parents, and children. It provides lesson plans, music games and interactive links, a podcast, tips for parents, and information about composers, instruments, and music history. The lesson plans (written by my former music education professor, Dr. Kay Edwards) are standards-based and incorporate elements of Orff, Kodaly, and Dalcroze.

It contains resources for teachers to help students learn basic and extended string techniques, how to program a concert, and games to help prepare students to start playing. Be Part of the Band is actually the recruitment tool that we use, along with a public performance and Jazz Band Tour. This website shows you real live musician that perform on their specific instruments as well as talk about their personal involvement with Music. 

Beapartoftheband.com is an awesome resource for beginning band teachers. Recruitment is such a huge part of the beginning of the school year and Scott Lang's resources are great! This website provides free resources for both recruitment and organization for bands. Individuals are able to make donations to the program, but no payment is required. Beapartoftheband.com not only provides demonstration videos for each instrument, the site also provides eighteen documents to assist with the recruitment process.

Band recruitment is the biggest event in the life of a band director.  This site features high quality tools to help make our lives easier. It also features famous people that have been band members.  Students need to relate to the bigger picture sometimes.  They need to see that big athletic stars can be in the band as well.  I am always looking for new perspective to recruitment.

Instrument Cleaning and Maintenance Regular cleaning and maintenance is essential to keeping your student's instrument in proper working order. It is recommended to have your instrument inspected and serviced by a repair technician during the Christmas holiday and over the Summer break. The inspection may not result in any work being needed. However, just like an automobile it is recommended that a repair technician perform a tune-up as necessary to keep your instrument in proper working order.

The National Association for Music Education website is an incredible resources for all music educators.  On this site, users can access articles published by fellow educators and professors on an array of topics.  Users can also gain insight on lesson planning, upcoming events, career opportunities, and access to a community of music educators.  Research studies published through NAfME provide valuable information for students to read and analyze.  Students can access valuable resources, discover music events, and gain information regarding auditions.

I use Charms for keeping my financial records.  Does anyone else use it for practice records or the recordings?  I just found the recordings section.  This has been a great program for me this year and made the record keeping so much easier!

CHARMS is a great management and communication program that places all styles of databases into one central location. Is a great way to manage funds, communicate with members and parents as well as store recordings and inventory. Charms has been used by band programs and other fine arts programs as an office assistant and is proven to be effective in the testimonials section of their website.

Quaver's Marvelous World is a DVD and computer-based program of learning designed to provide teachers and parents with quality, expert tools to impart knowledge and a love of music to kids

Quaver's Marvelous World of Music is a great software curricular resource that facilitates general music instructions. The program consists of web-based music activites that go from music theory to responding to music. It also has IWB activities that students enjoy. It can be tailored to each teacher's needs. It requires a purchase.

Quaver is a great online educational curriculum and software program for general music classes. This software covers all aspects of music education standards and can be used in conjunction with a SMARTboard.

From the Top is an NPR program that features kids who have achieved an extremely high level of performance. There are many videos of student performances. It could be great for students to see kids their age performing advanced music.

From the Top is the video series that highlights young performers. This website houses the more recent streaming videos, sharing the performers' stories and their performances on the stage. These videos are great resources for the classroom as they highlight young performers on all instruments and a variety of genres. See specifically PBS's section on From the Top for earlier seasons and lesson plans.

This website is sponsored by the PBR. You have access to videos and podcasts about classical music and many other music topics. This would be a great resource for middle school and high student performers.

The Smithsonian Jazz website offers an education page that features information about jazz and jazz musicians, free streaming recordings, and guided listening activities. Some categories also offer parent guides, lesson plans, and education kits. The website suggests that the appropriate age range is 8-15 years.

The Smithsonian Jazz Education page is a resource provided to showcase jazz and it's history. They have many lesson plans with recordings and activities to do with your class.

The graphics on this website are amazing- any child would enjoy browsing through and learning about musical instruments, composition, and composers. Also very neat is the game where you can "play" different musical instruments. The numbers on the computer keypad become notes in a scale!

This is owned and operated by the San Francisco symphony. It requires Adobe flash so desktop computers are suggested for use.

This is a website that i have used with my students, more so free time. Allowing to practice their skill but also have fun doing it as it relates to games. The purpose of this would be for students to explore having fun with music!.

Welcome to Opus Music Worksheets, a database of high quality, free printable music education resources for download, including free sheet music, music theory worksheets, music flashcards, music business forms, and many other free music learning resources for music teachers, music students, and parents.

Opus Music has a great series of music worksheets suitable for general music and ensemble classes. The lessons are sequential and logical and provide clear descriptions of each topic in the lesson material before providing exercises for completion. The worksheets are available in downloadable PDF formats. These worksheets would also work well as substitute assignments if needed as a non-music teacher could figure out the directions.

The Opus Music website is a great resource for teachers looking for free printables. It is not a in-depth site, but instead offers a series of music theory worksheets, speed note name tests as well as flashcards and teacher printables for: business cards, lesson registration, lesson assignment and lesson billing. This site is geared towards a private studio teacher, but I have found the theory worksheets useful for beginning music students as well. All the material is free. There are also links to music teaching resources.
