    This site has a lot of free sheet music and allows students to print it off and practice sight reading. This site also has a tuner, scales, and a metronome to allow students to practice properly. The purpose of this resource is to allow students to stay engaged and practice music of their choice when they get bored with the music for concerts. This helps them stay engaged and not get burned out.

    8notes.com is full of music resources such as free sheet music and supplemental material for lessons. The sheet music includes categories such as classical, pop, jazz, film/TV, and traditional. Any music teacher knows how frequently students ask for specific tunes from television or movies. Even though they may not be played in class, students can greatly benefit from private practice on tunes they enjoy. 8notes.com also includes over forty theory lessons. These lessons begin with learning about lines and spaces on the staff and continue through many concepts all the way to the introduction of modes. In addition to the lessons, this website provides ear training exercises to accompany the theory lessons. 8notes.com is a great resource for all music teachers, not just instrumental or vocal. This site includes music and lessons for all instruments including banjo and ukulele, making it great for a general music classroom as well.

    Wonderful website for students and teachers to use for free sheet music. Music is available for a plethora of instruments, including non-band instruments. Great for students to use for solo or small ensemble performances. Free and easy are always a plus!

  • In fact, informal reviews of private teachers' instructions for practice reveal that teachers commonly assign only what to practice and how long to practice, with little attention given to specific proximal goals to be accomplished each day.
  • This is in stark contrast to assignments in many academic disciplines in school, where students are given sets of problems to solve, chapters to read, or essays to write, and the time devoted to homework is determined by the time required to complete the problems, read the chapters, or compose the essays. It seems readily accepted in other disciplines by teachers and students alike that all students will not devote the same amount of time to assignments, because individual learners work at different rates and different learners will not require the same amount of time to complete each assignment. How long one works depends on how long it takes to accomplish the assigned goals.

You can search using the name of the aria, opera, or the role. You can also search by voice part or vocal range. While the website is not adding new material, most vocalists will be able to find what they are looking for with the depth of material already entered.

It comes with very useful information such as range, translations, setting, synopsis, and recordings. Searching is easy and can vary in degree simple search, Aria search, Opera search, Role search, or browse the many selections. People can contact or contribute to this website. I do not see any scores, but there are links that do provide them.

    The Sight Reading Factory generates excerpts of music based on parameters entered by the user. It is especially useful for practicing specific areas of music-reading skills (e.g. bass clef, odd-meters, difficult rhythms), or reinforcing general concepts of reading traditionally-notated music. While the site is good for the practice of mechanics, one might argue that robotically-created music is less useful for the development of musicality (or that computer-composed music isn't "music" at all). Excerpts can be generated for individuals singing or playing instruments, or for ensembles. There is also a section for solfege pattern practice. This resource creates sheet music excerpts for reading practice, without much regard to form or structure--it does not generate full works of literature for performance.

Resources include worksheets for pitch, rhythm, composers, specific songs, like the Star Spangled Banner and so much more. A valuable resource for a teacher who does not want to "recreate the wheel" OR who is creative and likes to "recreate the wheel" and earn a little cash doing it!

    This is a great resource for any educators. Teachers pay teachers is an online website where teacher share and sell their creative ideas for other teachers to use in their classrooms. You can purchase materials, lessons plans, assessments, and pretty much anything for a lesson plan you are using, or in need of. You are also able to upload and sell your creative ideas to collaborate with your colleagues. This is a useful tool if you find yourself in a jam for a lesson or in need of supplemental materials.

    Teachers Pay Teachers is a resource for a wide variety of teacher-created lesson plans. Teacher-authors can share their lesson plans and resources via digital download, and receive payment in return. The search function allows teachers to find materials related to a particular subject and view the ratings from other users. Music teachers need to use careful keywords and search tactics to weed out lessons aimed at incorporating songs in the general classroom, but there are many great music education plans about music elements, instruments, guided listening, etc., as well as rubrics and visual aids.

There is a wide variety of resources available on the website for every age group and subject area. I find this website to be incredibly helpful when I am looking to use technology in my teaching. Many teachers upload their lessons including links and videos, which allows students to see and hear many great examples of music.

    Teachers pay teachers is basically the amazon for any educator to find lesson plans, games, manipulatives, and much more. I love to check out teachers pay teachers when I need new ideas on teaching music and generally I look for music games. I actually have a store on TPT, but hardly upload anything because I stay busy. I believe my most popular buy is my music jenga game, if any UFME students want it I would be more than happy to send it your way, for free!

    Teachers Pay Teachers contains music lessons, interactive media, and administrative aids developed by music educators around the world. While many of the resources are for purchase the cost is minimal and there are many available for free. The musical content ranges from specific learning objectives (like steady beat for elementary classrooms) to entire curricular supplements using specific teaching methods (such as Kodaly). While there are resources for performing ensembles, most tend to be for elementary or beginning performing ensemble classes.

    Teachers Pay Teachers a website where you can look up different resources for your classroom from sub plans, posters, to fun activities to play with your students. When teaching a specific concept in music class such a dynamics, this resource will have vocabulary with pictures, power-points, and activities to play with students in order to reinforce the concept. It is a great website that eliminates the time component of creating these documents on your own time, while also supporting others teachers with inexpensive prices for their products.

    This is where I go when I needed the latest smash hit and it has not yet been arranged for SATB or choirs. I love this site because you can now get digital copies of the music and use it with iPad programs like FourScore to play off of in concerts. No more binders full of sheet music and papers flying everywhere! This site really is a music teacher's best friend!

  • This is good of course, in that it means that music can take flight easily in those who have an ear for it and they can move on quickly to the joy of music-making, both on their own and with others. But this same skill can become a disadvantage when those same students want to move into more complicated repertoire or advanced improvisational music-making. Here, their lack of foundation in the theoretical language of music will impede their progress, and it will be frustrating for already advanced players to stop and ‘go back to the beginning’ to pick up the language and basic theoretical concepts they need in order to move forward with their playing.
