This site provides links helpful to band, chorus, orchestra, and general music teachers. The recommended sites have been researched and are of legitimate use for educators and musicians. The sites listed include professional organizations, academic music education resources, blogs, discussion forums, and  app/software reviews.

Great site for anyone looking for neat kid songs for sponge excercises or teaching the elements of music! The downloads to the music are free!

This is a great resource for teaching AP Music theory. It contains harmonic and melodic dictation and listening exercises, and contextual listening. Unfortunately, it is no longer completely free.

This is an itunes preview of Vic Firth Marching Percussion Video Podcasts. Each of these videos are free to view in itunes and many are from drum corps and other percussion professionals. These videos have interviews, lessons and performances. This is a great resource for percussion students for inspiration as well as showing them about DCI. 

Another great app for those silly Freshmen and Sophomore voice majors. They often perform lieder, so this would be a great tool for them.

This website is a simple tool that allows students to track their practice online. This website also allows teachers to comment on a students practice log. You must sign up to use the service but there is no charge involved.

A simple website with great drills to practice that are free. From the beginner to the advanced these drills make learning possible and fun. 

Kahn Academy provides free online instruction in a wide array of domains. Their music section contains information on basic music reading and terminology, examinations of orchestral works by Gerard Schwartz (former music director of the Seattle Symphony), and and introduction to the instruments of the orchestra.

This service creates a live back-up of work being completed in a digital audio workstation (or DAW). On the site it boasts ease of use, flexible collaboration (by allowing you to share work with other users), endless inspiration (in the form of a vast library of loops and sounds within its DAW), and most importantly, unlimited space! Sign up is free.

Zoom products are some of the best recording devices on the market. These could help from recording a student to a full ensemble. The recorders also balance the recording and are very user friendly. I have used these on many occasion professionally and will in the future. There is also free app for most smart phones that will do just as good of job as purchasing a recorder.

Smithsonian Folkways provides free lesson plans, activities and classroom resources on world music. The lessons can be downloaded in PDF format. The web page offers interactive features for students to learn about other music cultures and heritage.

Sonja, an app available in the app store, lets you read, write, record, and edit music hassle free. It' serves as a great educational tool for singers and musicians that lets you play or sing along with other app users. You also have the ability to import MIDI and audio files as well.

Theta Music Trainer offers a variety of games and activities for ear training practice. The first three levels of each game (out of 20) are available for free.

This is a site that I use frequently. Not only does the site provide useful information regarding musical ensembles and private instructors for those who live within the institute's service region, but it also serves as a resource for videos and recordings of professional clarinet players students may use as models. Furthermore, the site contains a variety of sheet music for all band and orchestra instruments. Sheet music may be downloaded from the site, or entire libraries may be purchased on a CD containing pdf files. This site makes access to solo and other forms of music literature a breeze! 

This website was developed to share and discuss the science of rudimental snare drumming.  You can also use this source to develop ideas for teaching and developing your marching percussion section.  Also included are common exercises that can be used.

Be Part of the Band is actually the recruitment tool that we use, along with a public performance and Jazz Band Tour. This website shows you real live musician that perform on their specific instruments as well as talk about their personal involvement with Music. 

Beapartoftheband.com is an awesome resource for beginning band teachers. Recruitment is such a huge part of the beginning of the school year and Scott Lang's resources are great! This website provides free resources for both recruitment and organization for bands. Individuals are able to make donations to the program, but no payment is required. Beapartoftheband.com not only provides demonstration videos for each instrument, the site also provides eighteen documents to assist with the recruitment process.

Band recruitment is the biggest event in the life of a band director.  This site features high quality tools to help make our lives easier. It also features famous people that have been band members.  Students need to relate to the bigger picture sometimes.  They need to see that big athletic stars can be in the band as well.  I am always looking for new perspective to recruitment.
