This site is something that most music educators today are familiar with; Finale. it provides a free download of Finale as well as blogs and training tutorials about how to use the program. The purpose of Finale is to all teachers (and students!) to create their own music. It can be anything from an original composition to an arrangement of a familiar song to a replica of something that has already been created. Not only does finale help build musical creativity, but it also teaches students about the basics of music notation. This site is a great source because it takes you step-by-step through downloading Finale, making it more user-friendly, especially for those that might not have as much experience with more recent music software.

This is a database for free downloadable sound effects. This would be another good resource to have in a music technology classroom. Students can use downloadable clips for sampling projects and sound effects in compositions. Teachers can also use sound effects if needed for both music theater performances and ensemble performances. 

The Improvisation Handbooks that Alex Noppe has put together and made available for free are great resources. More methodical and up-to-date than Jamey Aebersold's jazz handbook. I use these daily in my combo teaching.

Amazing music listening resource for music teachers. The cool thing about this website is that it shows how music can unify and connect people all over the world. It contains videos of a common song being recorded by musicians all over the world on a variety of different world instruments. Great resource for world music drumming. Many videos are free, but some require a subscription now.

This is a great listening resource to use with our students. It includes playlists and collections of recordings, historical and biographical information on composers and classical music, and midi recordings of sheet music.

This is a subscription-based website (free to join) that contains over 30,000 classical music files by various composers in MIDI, MP3, or WMA streaming file formats. You can download up to 5 songs per day, and it also contains biographies and historical timelines.

A companion website to HyperHistory Online, this website contains recordings of classical pieces that can be easily accessed. It can be searched by time period or composer. A handy resource if covering a music history unit.

This website from Smithsonian Jazz gives teachers resources for teaching jazz education to students.  There are free lesson plans and recordings for teachers to utilize.  In some instances, lesson plans are organized by age groups.

This site is created to provide an American historical view of jazz. It offers exhibits and collections as well as items for jazz appreciation.

This site is a resource for jazz composers, Composition, Media examples, and Jazz events. 

This program allows the user to record the screen and use a microphone to the recording.  In music classes, students could present composer or instrument projects using this recorder.  Teachers could use this to explain the minor scales while recording the music from a scale sheet.  

This site allows the user to create interactive timelines to share on the web.  Many resources can be added to the timeline entries.  

Dipity is a free online timeline website. Students can create timelines for music history.

This is a blog by Beth Jahn, an elementary music teacher who wanted to explore more ways to incorporate technology in her classroom. Although it has not been updated in some time, the resources she lists for iDevices are very helpful. She also goes into detail about her lesson plan ideas and how you could use apps with them.

This is a blog by Joanna Sisk-Purvis, a music teacher in North Carolina. She includes several free lesson plans that incorporate iPads and has many app suggestions for music education. A strong focus on recorders and technology for them is also included in her blog.

This website provides an extensive collection of folk music from Britain, Ireland, and America. It provides free MIDIs of folk songs, lyrics, and information about each piece. This site is great for students to explore folk music.

This website provided by the International Trumpet Guild has free resources for both trumpet teachers and trumpet students. The site includes reviews on solos, information on upcoming events such as masterclasses, summer camps, competitions, and also provides a link to "ask the teacher."

YouTube is one of the many free resources on the internet to aid in technology-driven instruction. The students have access to videos and recordings.

Partifi is a fantastic free, cloud-based website that converts PDF music scores into parts! Very useful for creating customized parts for students and ensembles; especially good for popular piano/vocal scores with no separate voice part available.

Great site for any music teacher! For those who have ever struggled with catchy bulletin board music themes, this site has a ton of kits to download and use all throughout the year. The themes range from seasons, to advocacy, to careers in music. Of course, they do not come for free. If you are willing to shed some cash, they are all around $6.00. Otherwise, if you can recreate them on your own, then that will save your pockets some stress! In any event, this will definitely be a bookmark for the ages!

This blog is notable for its excellent organization: it's indexed by category, including type of device (iPad, smartphone, SmartBoard), educational use (choral, band, elementary ed, collegiate, private instruction), free online resources, app reviews, and more. It has links to a number of music technology sites, and includes inspirational quotes as well! It's a handy go-to site for teachers looking for an all-inclusive music tech website.

This is an excellent site for all things theory. There are many drills and other materials for students. It requires a subscription but, in my opinion, would be well worth. This would be a great resource for AP music theory students to work on their own outside of class.

This is a music theory practice website. You can also download software so that it can be used offline. There is a fee if you want to track student progress, however, you can use the practice drills for free. Teachers are able to customize their drills.

TeacherVision.com is not a music education website exclusively, however, it provides many great resources that music teachers may find interesting or helpful. The site contains printables, graphic organizers, lesson plans, tips on classroom management, and great links to apps and software.
