This is a famous popular website and also app, that i use to teach my private students. This is a great way to practice reading music, ear training and knowing knowledge of different type of topics in music theory. This website and app has definitely made me a stronger musician through my undergraduate years. The purpose of this website is to provide practice of musical content, to help strength the mindset in many areas.

Rubistar is a rubric maker that is free to use. If you sign up then you can save your rubrics, otherwise they will disappear after you leave the website. There are many templates available to use or alter, including different music templates for playing tests or concert critiques. You can download them to save or print right away.

Musical Content: The Choral Public Domain Library contains digital downloads (sheet music, midi files, and notation files) for choral works that are in the public domain. There is a large selection, and CPDL offers useful search features such as listing all musical settings of a text, searching by language, type of piece, and by musical era. Other information: This is a good resource for directors who do not have large music budgets, are looking to find different settings of specific texts, or are looking for music from a specific time period.

This website has free downloadable sound effects for students to use in the music technology classroom. Students can use the sounds for sampling projects and sound effects in compositions. 

The Improvisation Handbooks that Alex Noppe has put together and made available for free are great resources. More methodical and up-to-date than Jamey Aebersold's jazz handbook. I use these daily in my combo teaching.

The site contains visual and audio media links and downloads, schedules, ticket information, and live webcast information for WGI "The Sport of the Arts." WGI is one of the fastest growing musical activities in the United States, comprised both student (scholastic) divisions and professional (independent) divisions. WGI has mission of providing the highest level of music education possible, constantly pushing and setting new musical standards.

This is a great listening resource to use with our students. It includes playlists and collections of recordings, historical and biographical information on composers and classical music, and midi recordings of sheet music.

This is a subscription-based website (free to join) that contains over 30,000 classical music files by various composers in MIDI, MP3, or WMA streaming file formats. You can download up to 5 songs per day, and it also contains biographies and historical timelines.

A companion website to HyperHistory Online, this website contains recordings of classical pieces that can be easily accessed. It can be searched by time period or composer. A handy resource if covering a music history unit.

This is where I go when I needed the latest smash hit and it has not yet been arranged for SATB or choirs. I love this site because you can now get digital copies of the music and use it with iPad programs like FourScore to play off of in concerts. No more binders full of sheet music and papers flying everywhere! This site really is a music teacher's best friend!

This is the kids' section of the New York Philharmonic. It has very informative pages about instruments and composers. It also has games for composition, and musical puzzles. You do need to download shockwave to view the content, but it's worth it.

This website is great for elementary students to reinforce the instruments and instrument families found in the orchestra. Students can listen to the sound of each instrument and watch short videos. There are great games and assessments for students to use, I highly recommend the Orchestration Station.

Podcast for learning about jazz artists, specific albums and genres of jazz. There are currently 269 podcasts that are free and describe many different artists such as: Miles Davis, Sonny Rollins, Clifford Brown, Louis Armstrong, BIll Evans, Duke Ellington, plus many, many more. THe podcasts are created by Dr. Gordon Vernick, Associate Professor of Music at Georgia State. This is fantastic resource for students as well as educators. 

Compiled by the Library of Congress, Music and the Brain is a Podcast that has lectures, conversations and symposia about the connection between neuroscience and music. Kay Redfield Jamison is the project chair compiles scholars, composers, performers, theorists, physicians, psychologists and other experts to discuss topics such as: the future of music; music and grief; the mind of the artist and others. There are 20 podcasts and they are all free!
