    This is a nice resource for games and interactive activities to give students information on the orchestra/orchestral instruments, composers, and the musicians in the orchestra. My students love games and they obviously love technology so I think combining these would be great. This would probably be better for a SMARTboard, rather than projecting it from a computer to the TV because the SMARTboard allows kids to get more involved.

    A great website for students to learn about the instruments, and people of the orchestra. They also learn about composers and compositions, and are able to make their own instrument, mingles, and minuets. A great website to use for elementary students who are learning about the orchestra.

The site includes recordings for use in interval identification, rhythmic dictation, chord identification, and a variety of other ear training concepts. This would be an excellent resource for teachers who wish to provide their students with practical experience in ear training via technology. Students could practice at home or in a computer lab.

    This site has a lot of free sheet music and allows students to print it off and practice sight reading. This site also has a tuner, scales, and a metronome to allow students to practice properly. The purpose of this resource is to allow students to stay engaged and practice music of their choice when they get bored with the music for concerts. This helps them stay engaged and not get burned out.

    8notes.com is full of music resources such as free sheet music and supplemental material for lessons. The sheet music includes categories such as classical, pop, jazz, film/TV, and traditional. Any music teacher knows how frequently students ask for specific tunes from television or movies. Even though they may not be played in class, students can greatly benefit from private practice on tunes they enjoy. 8notes.com also includes over forty theory lessons. These lessons begin with learning about lines and spaces on the staff and continue through many concepts all the way to the introduction of modes. In addition to the lessons, this website provides ear training exercises to accompany the theory lessons. 8notes.com is a great resource for all music teachers, not just instrumental or vocal. This site includes music and lessons for all instruments including banjo and ukulele, making it great for a general music classroom as well.

    Naxos is a resource of over 1 million recordings in myriad genres. It requires a subscription but would be an excellent investment for a school library (other non-music classes could take advantage of it). Files a flash streamed and one does not need any special software to make use of this site.

    Naxos is a Music Library full of wonderful recordings of music. It is the largest classical music publisher for CD's and has a variety of current recordings of new music as well as many old favorites. This is a must have resources for schools and other music professionals.

  • I usually think of a couple of non-technology activities in case the internet goes down, the software program won’t open or the mysterious audio settings won’t work. I also take the “safe” option with things like online videos: if the video you want to show your class is a crucial part of your lesson, download it to your laptop hard drive ahead of time so you are not reliant on your internet connection.

    Soundation is a fully functioning cloud-based DAW, similar to Soundtrap. The look is darker and more professional, and the effects processing is more sophisticated. This could be a good option for college-level recording and collaboration, whereas Soundtrap's colorful look and simplicity would be more appropriate for middle- and high-school use.

    Soundation is a Digital Audio Workstation similar to sound trap though soundation appears more professional, and the effects are more sophisticated. With soundation, students learn to do recording, editing, mixing, instrument patches, and MIDI input. Soundation is good for university level whereas Soundtrap's simplicity is good for middle and high school. Like soundtrap, it has a free one month trial with limited accessibility and to access the full premium, one has to pay. Soundation helps students acquire the 4Cs i.e Collaboration, communication, creativity, and critical thinking. It is a good resource for teaching studio composition and for enhancing the musicianship of non traditional music students.

    This site is very appropraite for our class about music and technology. Its purpose is to provide a variety of software program options to help enhance the music education experience. The resoucres are different software programs such as Music Transitions, Composing Music, Teaching Music, and Music Attendence. Many of these programs are games for younger students, offering them a fun way to learn musical concepts that might otherwise not interest them or be difficult to grasp in a traditional classroom setting. You can also share resources and interact with other members of the program to share ideas and ask questions.

    Resource for UF Masters in Music Education. Smartmusic is an incredible resource that can be used in the classroom to aid in individual assessment. It allows for a student to be accompanied and even record assignments to be turned into the teacher. This program greatly reduces class time spent on assessment!
