    This is a fantastic resource that I have been using for many years. There are many options for lessons among the music elements, which are customizable for different levels of difficulty. My favorite to use this site for is identifying pitches. I can customize the lesson to only include specific pitches and ranges, and even with sharps and flats.

    The Musictheory.net website is a comprehensive platform focused on teaching music theory. The purpose of the website is to teach or reinforce music theory concepts at all levels of experience. There are numerous free lessons available that cover many aspects of music theory. There are also numerous customizable exercises to help reinforce the concepts learned in the lessons. Teachers can utilize this website at all levels of performing arts. I have found success with using the note name identification exercise as I can choose exactly what notes the students are practicing.

    This is a website that we use at my school. We have sent the videos to all of the fifth grade teachers to allow their students to watch before we come and visit them at their school. We also post these videos on our band website for extra viewing. This is a great recruiting tool for middle school directors.

    This simple app is great for reading notation and having students identify notes on the staff. Difficulty levels range from three notes in one clef to over 20 notes using a grand staff with accidentals. Exercises can be done in as little as 30 seconds. I think any middle or high school musician would benefit from the use of this app as a simple reminder of how to recognize pitches notated on the staff.

A child listens to a note, and tries to match it to a similar note. This ear training computer game lets you learn music notes and their pitches. Students and pupils who play a musical instrument as a child have a better verbal memory than those with no music training. Aural listening skills enhance brain development and students who listen more to music are calm, critical thinkers, and confident. Introducing such a game as a lesson starter even for classes that are not learning music fosters concentration and interest of the learners. Their brain becomes alert and ready to take in any information.

    On this site, students can gain further understanding in a variety of musical topics, some that they may be learning in school. Most of the activities are game-oriented, so this is a fun outlet for kids to explore outside of the music classroom. Students can learn about the instruments of the orchestra, famous musicians and soloists, and popular composers. One thing to note is that the descriptions are rather text-heavy. Therefore, this site would be appropriate for an older elementary student or middle schooler as far as reading readiness is concerned.
