Teachers should use social media cites, e.g., blogs, to facilitate discussion and feedback from students, create online PLNs. The cross curricular benefit is increasing writing facility and literacy. A couple of concerns are cyberbullying and parents who may question how much learning is taking place with social media. Educators can help others, including students, understand that music learning can take place outside of the classroom through social media and broaden the audience.

The Smartmusic Blog, also called the Music Educators Blog is a blog based extension of www.smartmusic.com. The purpose of the blog is to give tips on many aspects of music education that teachers can use in the classroom, not just for information on the Smartmusic program. The blogs are written by music educators as well as Makemusic staff members. Teachers can use this website as their own personal professional development or as a ways to show students what is available in Smartmusic.

This site, compiled of professional educators, aims to enhance creative music and movement by emphasizing the Orff approach to instruction, providing professional development to its members, and supporting the creative potential of learners. You must subscribe to the association in order to benefit from its classroom resources, scholarships, and publication. But it seems to be a great source of support for classroom music educators!

The AOSA website is a resource for music educators. It provides information about the Orff-Schulwerk approach, advocacy, professional development, and teaching resources (lesson plans covering a variety of music content, videos, literature integration, and technology). Some links are only accessible by AOSA members.

I discovered this article when reading Kerstetter (2010) article about music education blogging. It is considered one of the longest-running music education blogs in existence. This blog site was founded in 2006 and is now a multi-author blog covering topics about music education. music technology, and music advocacy. Authors are music professors at various smaller universities.

An interesting article about the pros and cons to using music technology to teach composition, including interesting angle the article covers that I hadn't considered is the importance of manuscript hand-writing.

This site has a mission to integrate musical learning into all school systems and cultures to build a stronger body of music educators in the world. This website includes news and articles that pertain to the advocacy of education arts, the development of small groups of educators, and music therapy and technology. It also includes world music educators news and conferences around the globe.
