TV studios too strong for Apple disruption - Entertainment News, TV News, Media - Variety - 0 views

  •
"In addition to keeping Apple at bay, DiClemente believes the studios could even survive a scenario in which cord-cutting became so pervasive that distributors were forced to do away with their bundled channel packages. That's because the broadcasters that are their primary clients wouldn't be affected. "The programs airing on the broadcast nets would maintain the reach needed to create demand for that content in later windows," wrote DiClemente."

Sony launching world's first 4K video distribution service for consumers | The Verge - 0 views

  •
"Sony has announced that it will be launching the first 4K video distribution service for consumers, giving 4K TV buyers their first real source of content. We don't have much information about the service, but it will be launching in the US this summer, both potentially creating a 4K market and giving Sony an edge. It's something Sony originally tried with 3D, trying to handle all facets of the feature from content creation to distribution and playback. "We intend to expand the world of 4K content from beyond the cinema to TV dramas and commercials," Sony's Kaz Hirai said during the conference at CES. Sony has already announced a series of remastered 4K Blu-rays, and as with 3D, the company is trying to sell studios on the benefits of 4K. Meanwhile, it's announced the first-ever 4K OLED prototype TV and new models of its consumer-ready 4K TVs. In the US, though, super high-def digital distribution could be hampered by ISPs, which aren't likely to look kindly on the stress this will cause their pipes."

Flite's new Touch Ad Studio lets top publishers actually make money on mobile | Venture... - 0 views

  • Flite lets publishers create custom advertisements that match the quality of their content, and give advertisers a reason to spend more money than they would by going through an ad network. Flite is trying to defeat the logic that ad campaigns through networks like Google Ads offers a comparable impact at a cheap price by giving a publisher tools to build their own highly specific tools to build clients a better kind of ad spot. [Disclosure: VentureBeat uses Flite's services for advertising.]

  •
Both Sony and Disney are among the first studios testing this new service, which makes its debut in South Korea, reports the Wall Street Journal. The move is being done to help curb piracy overseas by allowing people to rent movies a few weeks after they're released in theaters. For example, Django Unchained was released just three weeks after its debut in theaters across the country. Disney's Wreck-it Ralph, and Brave are also part of this new trial service.

Agency's Crazy Gumball Chute Activated by Each New Twitter Follow - 0 views

  •
Uniform, a British brand communications agency, has rigged up a crazy gumball machine that gets activated whenever anyone follows them on Twitter-sending a gumball careening down a long and winding chute, coming to rest in the agency's studio, where workers presumably fight over it (or maybe not). In the meantime, the agency @replies you with a link to a video of the machine in action (though not, sadly, featuring footage of your particular gumball).

Lionsgate To Sponsor $20K Starcraft 2 Tournament In Support Of Ender's Game Hitting Blu... - 2 views

  •
"Essentially, Lionsgate wants to ensure that people interested in its film - which had a disappointing box office return - know that it is coming out on Blu-Ray. And so the studio is investing a sum into sponsoring a Starcraft 2 tournament, which will be watched by tens of thousands of individuals interested in futuristic combat, and who are often young and male. Ender's Game, naturally, features a young male winning weightless combat in the future."
