No E-Books Allowed in This Establishment - Bits Blog - NYTimes.com - 0 views

I barely made it a sentence into the e-book I was reading before an employee of the coffee shop came by, stood over me and said, “Excuse me sir, but we don’t allow computers in the coffee shop.” I looked up at him with an incredulous look and replied, “This isn’t a computer, it’s an e-book reader.” He then told me that the “device” in my hand had a screen and required batteries, so it was obviously “some variation of a computer.” The coffee shop, I was told, did not allow the use of computers.

Is WWE NXT's Move From SyFy To The Internet A Sign Of TV's Future? - 0 views

It’s been quite a few years since WWE has been on the forefront of pop culture, but now, possibly because of a forced hand, it once again finds itself blazing trails. Its newest TV show, NXT, a reality-type show (with minimal wrestling, of course) that debuted last winter, will be leaving TV altogether and heading to the Internet. (Tuesdays at 10pm, for the record.) WWE says it’s the first TV show to leave TV for the Internet, something that I wouldn’t even be able to verify, but it does speak to a broader move in the world of entertainment.

Moving NXT to the Internet is an experiment. Perhaps it’s one borne out of necessity, but I’d be shocked if TV executives around Hollywood aren’t checking in to see how it does.
Dean Kamen unveils revamped bionic arm and water machine, LED light bulb powered by Cre... - 0 views

Last but not least, the man's got a product you might be able to afford for your home. In the quest for an item for his FIRST young engineers to sell -- a la Girl Scout cookies -- he tapped LED manufacturer Cree to produce an 450 lumen light bulb that draws just 7 watts and will retail for about $25 door-to-door. In case you're wondering, that's cheaper and more efficient than most any lamp we've seen before. Dean says they've already produced several hundred thousand of the bulbs thanks to a surprise $3 million investment from Google, and plan to have them in the hands of every FIRST kid soon. Keep on fighting the good fight, Dean. Dean Kamen at T

Small, lightweight, hands-free cameras — worn on a headband, for example, or tucked over an ear — will record life’s memorable moments as they unfold, even if you are busy holding your infant son or erupting in cheers at your daughter’s basketball game.

File Under: Metaservices, The Rise Of - John Battelle's Searchblog - 0 views

But I've noticed a trend of late. While a year ago I'd only see a "service connection" happen between an app and Facebook or Twitter, lately I've noticed such connections happening all over the place - with LinkedIn, Google, Foursquare, and many others. I think it's only a matter of time - and not much of it - before we have a "metaservice" hit on our hands - an entirely new and delightful service that curates our digital lives and adds value above the level of a single site.
