Nic Sulsky is the co-founder of InGamer, the 3-screen social gaming platform turns a passive sports-watching audience into an active one. InGamer provides sports, live event broadcasters, and brands a platform that greatly diminishes audience fragmentation, eyeballs being distracted and early disengagement. It stimulates a stickiness that will allow partners to more effectively monetize that audience wherever & however they are engaged. It's the logical next step in live sport and live event production licensing, broadcasting, and marketing.

Dr. Hossein Rahnama who is known for his groundbreaking work in context-aware and cloud computing platforms has been recognized as part of MIT's Technology Review magazine's 2012 list of the world's top innovators under the age of 35. Dr. Hossein Rahnama founded Flybits, which is a spin-off of Ryerson University and is supported by Digital Media Zone and MaRS Innovation.

MaRS's launched a Future Leaders Series this summer which offered 20 students between the ages of 13 and 15 the chance to experience the life of a "MaRS-ian entrepreneur."  The participants were provided an opportunity to pitch their ideas to a panel of judges that their business model was feasible and to demonstrate how they planned to use the $1,000 of prize money up for grabs.

The following six start-ups will comprise JOLT's first summer cohort: Prof (interactive social education platform), Vennpage (infographics), ShelfLife (social commerce for fans of collectibles), SlingRide (social network for booking rideshare trips), Greengage Mobile (social platform encouraging eco-sustainable practices in the workplace) and tout.it  (social media platform for sports fans).

The Marfa Dialogues 2012 will be held August 31 to September 2. Tom Rand, MaRS Cleantech Advisor and Managing Director of the Cleantech Fund, will be speaking at the Marfa Book Company at 3:30pm on September 1, 2012.

The MaRS Phase II project is expected to be completed in 2013. Currently, the window work is underway.

The Sault Ste Marie's city council approved "$95,000 in funding the Innovation Cente for a two-year, $794,000 initiative for the implementation of their Smart Energy Strategy." Vair is in talks with the MaRS Discovery District about the Sault's role in the new clean energy institute.

The Pecaut Centre for Social Impact announces Andrew Steele as CEO. Dr. Ilse Treurnicht, CEO of MaRS Discovery District is a board member of the Pecaut Centre for Social Impact.

Bob Rennie is among the most powerful people in Vancouver and is an art collector, a provocateur and a condo king. Rennie spoke at the Innovation City event that was held at the MaRS Centre. Rennie is interested in the health of a city and wants to city-build.

"Jack Stewart a biotechnology entrepreneur, is about to start a human trial for a drug developed from a compound found in shrew spit that could treat ovarian, breast and prostate cancers without many of the side effects of chemotherapy." Veronika Litinski, a Senior Advisor at MaRS in the Life Science and Health care practice says it is difficult to run trials with a clear robust criteria.

Carol Goar from The Star states "Financial giant Goldman Sachs will invest $9.6 million in a four-year behavioural learning program designed to reduce the proportion of young inmates who reoffend. Organizations like MaRS, are examining the concept of pay-for-performance bonds.

According to Ben Coxworth, reporter, at Gizmag states the University of Toronto has developed a "microfluidic device ... that can reportedly produce sections of precisely-engineered tissue that measure within the centimeters. This innovation is currently being commercialized by MaRS Innovation.
