Resources | Project Based Learning | BIE - 1 views

What a cool collection of resources. I had never heard of the Buck Institute for Education but it looks like they've assembled a good collection of resources for Project Based Learning that will help make a teacher's life easier. They have everything from rubrics to planning forms that range from specific to generic. Other resources are available for teachers to watch on their own time or for teachers to use for interacting with other teachers or trainers. Definitely worth your time to check out, especially if you use or are planning to use Project Based Learning with your students.

How to Deal With Kids' Math Anxiety | MindShift - 0 views

  •
"Brain scans of these children also show that when they're in the grip of math anxiety, activity is reduced in the information-processing and reasoning areas of their brains-exactly the regions that should be working hard to figure out the problems in front of them."

Smartphones Don't Make Us Dumb - NYTimes.com - 0 views

  • Paying attention requires not just ability but desire. Technology may snuff out our desire to focus.
  • But there’s little evidence that attention spans are shrinking. Scientists use “span” to mean two separate things: how much we can keep in mind, and how well we can maintain focus.

"POGIL is an acronym for Process Oriented Guided Inquiry Learning. POGIL originated in college chemistry departments in 1994; there are now well over 1000 implementers in a wide range of disciplines in high schools and colleges around the country. POGIL uses guided inquiry - a learning cycle of exploration, concept invention and application - as the basis for many of the carefully designed materials that students use to guide them to construct new knowledge. POGIL is a student-centered strategy; students work in small groups with individual roles to ensure that all students are fully engaged in the learning process. POGIL activities focus on core concepts and encourage a deep understanding of the course material while developing higher-order thinking skills. POGIL develops process skills such as critical thinking, problem solving, and communication through cooperation and reflection, helping students become lifelong learners and preparing them to be more competitive in a global market."

Sketchnoting - Kathy Schrock's Guide to Everything - 0 views

"Sketchnoting, in its purest form, is creating a personal visual story as one is listening to a speaker or reading a text. I also believe the interactive notebook, which includes the process of taking "regular" notes" while listening to a speaker and later creating a sketchnote of the text notes, would also be considered sketchnoting.
