TED-Ed | Let's use video to reinvent education - Salman Khan - 3 views

  •
Salman Khan talks about how and why he created the remarkable Khan Academy, a carefully structured series of educational videos offering complete curricula in math and, now, other subjects.
  •

Esri Story Maps for Education: Creating, 1 of 2 - YouTube - 7 views

  •
"Esri Story Maps for Education: Creating, 2 of 2" Pubblicato in data 11/gen/2013 Esri Story Maps for Education: Creating Story Maps, 1 of 2. How can you create a Story Map from the provided templates? It is easy, fun, and a creative process. Most importantly, Story Maps can be used in many ways in education because maps are powerful story telling tools.
  •

TeachersFirst - Rubrics to the Rescue: What Are Rubrics - 0 views

  •
"What Are Rubrics Students have been known to refer to rubrics as "those things with the little boxes", while teachers know rubrics as a set of scoring guidelines that evaluate students' work and provide a clear teaching directive. Rubrics are a powerful, authentic tool used to assess students' work. This scoring tool lists specific criteria for a project or piece of work. The criterion helps students to have a concrete understanding and visualization of "what counts". Each standard or criteria also includes a gradation scale of quality. The rating scale could be numerical, qualitative, or a combination of both. Rubrics seek to evaluate assignments based on the sum of a full range of criteria rather than a single numerical score."

For Teachers, Wired Classrooms Pose New Management Concerns - Liana Heitin, Edweek.org,... - 2 views

  •
"By Liana Heitin (...) In a growing number of K-12 schools, the use of 1-to-1 computing devices-including iPads, laptops, and Chromebooks-is becoming a central part of instruction. For teachers making the digital leap, one of the greatest hurdles can be figuring out how to manage the tech-infused classroom. How do you keep kids, who suddenly have the Internet at their fingertips, on task? How do you ensure the devices are safe and well-maintained? And how do you compete with your most tech-savvy students? (...)"I think this is the new frontier frankly with classroom management. We've never confronted this," said Kyle Redford, a 5th grade teacher at Marin Country Day School in Corte Madera, Calif. "

Common Core & Ed Tech: Symbaloo for Classroom Curation - 1 views

  •
"Symbaloo for Classroom Curation One of the challenges of having online tech tools for your students is finding a way to manage them.  Do you use a tool that bookmarks them in one place, giving students easy access?  I've tried a number of curation tools, and always come back to Symbaloo.  Symbaloo allows you to set up a "web mix" of tiles, each tile linking to your favorite websites.  You can colorize the tiles, add short titles, and even a small image.  You can then post the link on your class's web page for all to access. "

Internet service providers charging for premium access hold us all to ransom | Technolo... - 0 views

Cory Doctorow theguardian.com, Monday 28 April 2014 00.00 BST "An ISP should give users the bits they ask for, as quickly as it can, and not deliberately slow down the data The Federal Communications Commission, America's telcoms regulator, has formulated a plan to allow internet service providers (ISPs) to charge companies for the right to "premium" access to its customers. This is the worst internet policy news imaginable. It should strike terror into the heart of anyone who cares about fairness, politics, the widening gap between the rich and the poor, fair trade, entrepreneurship, or innovation. The FCC now stands as the world's foremost symbol for "regulatory capture," and its chairman - a former cable executive lobbyist - is the poster child for an unhealthy relationship between industry and its regulators. What's at stake is "network neutrality," which is the simple principle that your ISP should give you the bits you ask for, as quickly as it can, and not deliberately slow down the data you're looking for. ... "
  •
Doctorow's intro in his newsletter: "My latest Guardian column, "Internet service providers charging for premium access hold us all to ransom," explains what's at stake now that the FCC is prepared to let ISPs charge services for "premium" access to its subscribers. It's pretty much the worst Internet policy imaginable, an anti-innovation, anti-democratic, anti-justice hand-grenade lobbed by telcos who shout "free market" while they are the beneficiaries of the most extreme industrial government handouts imaginable."

Brief.ly - 0 views

Brief.ly is a simple way to share a "bundle" of links at the same time. Enter up to 30 links and captions you want to share (one per line or click the wrench for more options). Brief.ly will generate a unique URL. When opened, a Table of Contents page lists the sites included. When you open the bundle, each site appears and tabs appear along the top of the page that allow you to easily jump from one recommended site to the next. This site is very easy to use and helpful for all ages, as long as they can read. With your membership, you can edit the contents of your list later, without resending it or changing the single link. tag(s): organizational skills (84) TeachersFirst review
