CoughDrop - Every voice should be heard - 1 views

  •
"Every voice should be heard Some people are hard to hear -- through no fault of their own. Disabilities like autism, cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, Angelman syndrome and Rett syndrome make it harder for many individuals to communicate on their own. Many people use Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) tools in order to help make their voices heard. We work to help bring out the voices of those with complex communication needs through good tech that actually makes things easier and supports everyone in helping the individual succeed."

RAAP Strategy - 1 views

  •
Aided language modeling: adult models how to use the individual's communication board/AAC system by actually pointing to/selecting symbols to represent words being read from the text Learning how to use aided language modeling during reading activities using strategies; either of the strategies could be used although in the research the RAA strategy was used primarily to model and elicit single symbol responses whereas RAAP strategy was used primarily to model and elicit multi-symbol response. You can use either of these strategies but prompts may be needed for some children. * RAA: using the read-ask-answer strategy to elicit single symbol responses on the AAC system * RAAP: using the read-ask-answer-prompt strategy to elicit single symbol or multisymbol responses on the AAC system

While acknowledging the continuing need to provide greater equity of access to technology itself, the plan goes further to call upon all involved in American education to ensure equity of access to transformational learning experiences enabled by technology. 100 Incredibly Useful YouTube Channels for Teachers - Online College Courses - 2 views

  •
YouTube has earned a reputation for featuring brain cell-slaughtering fare such as the truly abysmal Fred and playing host to the some of the most depressingly stupid comments this side of Yahoo! News. But for every participant liberally dishing out misspelled racist, sexist and homophobic talking points, there is at least one whose channel genuinely offers something provocative and educational. For teachers hoping to infuse multimedia into their classrooms, YouTube makes for an excellent starting point. Plenty of universities, nonprofits, organizations, museums and more post videos for the cause of education both in and out of schools. The following list compiles some of the ones most worthy of attention, as they feature plenty of solid content appealing to their respective audiences and actively try to make viewers smarter.

Sensory Learning NZ - 2 views

  •
"The Sensory Learning NZ website is the home of the Sensory Learning Toolkit (SLTNZ). The SLTNZ has been designed primarily for practitioners of students with Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD). We have researched, tried and tested Tools To gather data and approaches To learning that are suitable and relevant To this group of students. Tools that show the very small and often subtle changes in student behaviour that show learning and how they learn. At the heart of the SLTNZ is the belief that 'everyone is learner', starting from a base of 'presuming competence' and celebrating achievements. The overriding framework and approach however can be used with higher functioning students of all ages. The Tools used To gather data will change but the process will be the same."

Progressive Language helps your communicators progress to full communication! | AssistiveWare - 0 views

"Progressive Language helps your communicators progress to full communication! Ever since we released our first core word vocabulary in multiple grid sizes, back in Proloquo2Go 2.0, we've been recommending that people choose the largest grid size they can use. Choosing a large grid size gives you the most language on a single screen. With more language available at a glance, you can quickly recognize the words you want to use. You don't have to remember which folder a word is in and then navigate there"

A.T.TIPSCAST Episode #116: How To Help Say Things | The Compendium Blog of The A.T.TIPSCAST - 1 views

  •
Episode #116 features a description of how and why to use core vocabulary (high frequency words) as the basis for an augmentative/alternative communication system. The entire episode was generated using only "Frequently Occurring Home and School Words" from the list generated in the article "Vocabulary-Use Patterns in Preschool Children: Effects of Context and Time Sampling" by Christine A. Marvin, David R. Beukelman, and Denise Bilyeu published in Augmentative and Alternative Communication, Volume 10 in December, 1994. The episode demonstrates that using only high frequency words users can still elicit complex, generative language. You might find it beneficial to listen to the episode twice or to read along as you listen to the episode. TRANSCRIPT: http://bit.ly/howtohelpsaythingstranscript
