This bookmark came from delicious, where we had bookmarked the Social Impact Investment Prospectus (pdf). However, the site as a whole seems very relevant to KPI current work. One project is a new report, College Access and Success. They also sponsor an annual Social Innovation Forum.

Working Examples - About - 0 views

  • Imagine a worked example as a bid. The author is asking others: Do you think this problem and the proposed solution or approach to it I explicate here shows promise to be an important part of our emerging field or collaboration? If not, show me why not. If so, help me develop my ideas, and join yours to mine, in order to build this new field or collaboration.
  • WEP is meant to be a platform for starting and sustaining emerging areas of research, intervention, and practice.
  • This new form of scholarship stresses innovation, building new collaborations, and discovering new paths and not just retreading old ones.
  •
In addition to bookmarking the home page of this site (follow tag: wep), I have bookmarked the About page where James Gee welcomes users and explains his vision for worked examples.

Where's the "Learn This" Button? by Maria Andersen - 0 views

  •
Presentation was part of Ignite Great Lakes, July 30 2011. Maria Anderson is a futurist and math professor at Muskegon Community College. It's not enough to bookmark (or digitally hoard); we need a "learn this" button. Essentially, this is a more efficient bookmarking system where we revisit sites of interest and actually ask ourselves questions about the topics.

Pinterest - 0 views

  •
From their "Pinning 101" notes, Pinterest is an "online pinboard." The explicit purpose is to bookmark and share images from the web, and to annotate them. While the site emphasizes "beautiful" things from the web, with a suggestion of domestic purposes, this might be another way to generate collaborative collages (as we've done with GSCC) or to share non-written artifacts on a specific topic.

The Ultimate Guide To Google+ For Educators - 1 views

  •
No author or date listed, this blog posts promotes a guide to Google+ for educators, written by Steven W. Anderson. I bookmark this post for two reasons. First, obviously, the opportunity for educators to learn more about Google+ and it's potential educational applications. But also the format, LiveBinder, is an interesting way to present and share resources.

Hacking the Academy - 0 views

  •
Edited by Dan Cohen and Tom Scheinfeldt, MPublishing, 2011. (Print edition forthcoming) This site is an open-access version of a volume of over 300 responses to questions posed by the editors in their social networks. Contributors were allowed only one week to respond. The approach, encouraging interactivity as well as a time limit, and the questions intended to provoke thinking on how digital media and technology can beneficially reform the academy. The editors convincingly state a good case for their choice of the word "hack." (originally bookmarked September 9, 2011. The previous link is no longer active.)

Helping Global Kids Connect - 0 views

  •
Posted by Clarance Fisher on his blog Remote Access, July 19 2011. Per his post, Fisher first wrote about a tool that would help "global kids in global classrooms to connect with each other." He then used the site vworker.com, where people post their projects, inviting coders to bid on them. Once he had a price for his project, he used ChipIn.com (for only one week) to raise the money for his project.
  •
I've bookmarked for several reasons: (1) Love the idea of online community for kids around the globe (2) Vworker.com sounds like a great resource (3) Very interesting to see a social fundraising tool like ChipIn.com in action
