Developed by Texifter, a company founded by Dr. Stuart Schulman of QDAP (see tag QDAP), this is a text analysis tool, with the capability of "reading" text from a variety of social media sources (as well as WordPress) and crowdsourcing the analysis over a peer group of the user's devising. This software has replaced PCAT (an earlier product).

We have developed powerful software and services, based on principles of organizational / social network analysis (ONA / SNA), to uncover relationship dynamics and reveal the self-organizing nature of groups.

There are recommendations for report builders, tools that help create data visualizations, both quantitative and qualitative analysis tools, and dashboard recommendations.  Also reference to an organization called Innovation Network, which might be of interest.

Posted by Kelly Tenkely on her blog, Dreams of Education. In this post (n.d.), Tenkeley describes (and seeks funding for) her Learning Genome Project. Based on behind Pandora, this project would apply recommender data to curriculum based (K-12) lessons. The project also seeks deep analysis of the students (learning styles, etc.) and the teachers (called "lead learners"). Any time a lesson is used, both teacher and student are to rate it.

This guide, "is the result of a year-long cross-foundation effort to develop common principles, approaches, and taxonomies to help staff decide how best to allocate time and resources for data collection and analysis." A program of the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching, Statway focuses on helping community college students learn basic skills in statistics, data analysis, and quantitative reasoning as part of a one-year pathway. The ultimate goal of this pathway is preparation for college-level statistics. This home page to Statway also includes links to the project blog (called Pathways Connection) and to the project's mailing list. There are 19 community colleges affiliated with this project.

This is a really great e-book (free, downloadable PDF) which organizes Web 2.0 education projects by grade level, including a section for adult learners, and a section of resources. The author cites analysis by The Daily Advertiser (the print newspaper) that "the majority of 2010 ACT-tested Lafayette Parish students did not meet college readiness benchmarks." The article also compares the ACT as an indicator against TOPS (Taylor Opportunity for Students Award, a local grant).

Whole page of resources on distance learning for college students--really like the podcast: New Gates Foundation Grants Focus on "The Learning Moment." Mark Milliron, Gates dep director for higher education (in February 2011 at least) focuses on data to target at risk students, triggering student support, and tailoring that student support to meet the students' needs. He also emphasizes the leveraging of technology to support students and for data collection and analysis

This paper argues that, based on two recent studies, "job-embedded PD can be highly effective, but only when there is a sufficient infrastructure in place to support it." While this analysis seems somewhat biased (clearly written in support of NIET's own program), many of the characteristics of their program match work that KPI has done in PD.
