Though US-centric, this Pew Report "Public Predictions for the Future of Workforce Automation" gives some insight to workforce attitudes to automation. Despite their expectations that technology will encroach on human employment in general, most workers think that their own jobs or professions will still exist in 50 years. Heads in the sand, or justifiable pessimism?

The average piece of user-generated content (UGC) is awful. It's actually way worse than you think. It can be rife with misspellings, vulgarity or flat-out wrong information. But by identifying the best and worst UGC, machine-learning models can filter out the bad and bubble up the good without needing a real person to tag each piece of content.

AI is (currently) very good at specialist/single tasks that require brute force computational effort or training algorithms, but we are a long way from developing generalised AI, that requires some form of unsupervised deep learning. There are many things that humans understand but are well beyond the reach of AI, and this will remain the case for many years to come - if it ever happens.

Ryan Stout, the creator of Arsenal, told The Verge over email that he thinks his product fills a gap in the market. Stout says camera companies have underinvested in auto modes as they're usually disdained by pro photographers (for good reason, he notes). Researchers at the MIT Media Lab, think that facial recognition software has problems recognizing black faces because its algorithms are usually written by white engineers who dominate the technology sector. These engineers build on pre-existing code libraries, typically written by other white engineers.
