Cisco is high-tech company, yet uses really simple techniques to prototype end-user experiences. By simple, they mean string, Blu-tac, pins etc. The example of drawing out what the 'new-hire' experince should be like is very revealing innovative (see 9mins 47secs to 11:00mins)

Journal of Knowledge Management Practice, - 2 views

  •
In this paper, we survey a number of different knowledge management strategies and a range of driving forces for knowledge management activities. We synthesise these using an extended version of an existing "KM spectrum"; apply a knowledge engineering approach to provide further guidance for the KM spectrum; and then describe a simple classification approach that links the driving forces to KM strategies, using a number of published heuristics. Finally, a case study is presented in which we apply our approach and discuss its usefulness.

"In most group chats, important things get lost in the noise. Also, remember the chat messages and file transfers you missed because you were offline during lunch? Exactly. Not cool. So we built a better chat service. Simple, common-sense stuff."

Many of these quotes from Henry Ford are relevant for organisational learning and leadership. They seem to have withstood the test of time very well. Like the best ideas they are simple and self-evident.

Technology can help the three key rules for innovation - 0 views

  •
"Innovation is not just luck. Nor is it a simple, replicable process. Three management techniques have withstood the test of time: Define the areas you need to innovate, Measure and give people time to innovate without constraint. This article suggests technology can help."

British Council - Information guide - How we make decisions - After action reviews - 0 views

  •
The After Action Review (AAR) is a simple tool pioneered by the US army which is now widely used in organisations to capture lessons learned. It is a structured review after an activity or stage in a project, including handover or close, that analyses what happened, why it happened, and how it can be done better. The key to successful AAR's is that it helps you turn mistakes and poor performance into learning opportunities.

Gamification in the Workplace | The Engagement Blog - HiSocial - 0 views

  •
"The company of the future - and indeed the company of the present - needs new instruments to adapt to a changing reality. The new generation of digital natives is progressively being incorporated to the world of work. We are talking about a generation that has lived most of its life within the technological revolution that has occurred in the last two decades. It has connected people, who spend more time on the Internet than in front of the television and who have lived with the emergence of video games. It is not to judge whether that is good or bad, it's simply real and nothing will change it."
  •
Looking at the HiSocial offering, I can't help but wonder about unintended consequences. The digital natives are savvy and will naturally find ways of 'gaming' the system. If you simple reward actions such as visiting intranet pages or 'downloading corporate material', you are in no way increasing the sum total knowledge, helping efficiency or decision making. What's needed is reward that stimulates participation and qualitative contribution, not just transactions.

The simple rules of disciplined innovation | McKinsey & Company - 1 views

  •
"Sophisticated innovators have long recognized that constraints spur and guide innovation. Attempting to innovate without boundaries overwhelms people with options and ignores established practices, such as agile programming, that have been shown to enhance innovation. Without guidelines to structure the interactions, members of a complex organization or ecosystem struggle to coordinate their innovative activities."

I set up this website in order to experiment with the emerging Semantic Web and Linked Data Web. I'm not really interested (at this stage) in creating a pretty website so please forgive the amateurish look of these pages. Maybe I'll change this with time, but for now I'm more interesting in what's going on under the bonnet and for now it's all about the RDF. These pages are best viewed in Firefox. To get the most from these pages there are a number of addons you can install to transform your web browswer into a semantic web browser: Semantic Radar - a simple plugin that detects semantic web technologies on a webpage Operator - lets you do cool stuff with microformats and RDFa Tabulator - a neat way to browse RDF and linked data on the semantic web OpenLink Data Explorer - another data browser for the semantic web Welcome, and enjoy...
