This article peaked my interest: Within the next ten years, de Blasio is requiring all of the city's public schools to offer computer science for all students.These courses will only be offered as electives. The main concern for this is finding enough teachers that are properly trained and training others. Computer science jobs are among the fastest growing. They are also the some of the highest paying jobs.  Computer sciences are primarily dominated by white or Asian males. With these courses being available to all students in elementary schools, hopefully the number of minorities and girls who will be interested will increase.

Help kinesthetic learners learn computer science concepts through a robot. Groups of four help children write code for the robot to complete a task. Teaches them script and code in an activity oriented way. Can teach students script and code and think critically as teacher instruction facilitates learning but does not baby the children.Problem based learning methodology with helps students write tasks for the robot. Can get students excited about technology. Caters to kinesthetic learners which is rare.

Tayne Martin, is an educator and World of Warcraft aficionado, stating that boys make up 80 percent of  the computer classes at her school, and very few girls enroll in AP Computer Science. Girls are gamers too.  Martin, who is coordinator of the Professional Development Support Division at Broward Schools in Florida, is part of a team presenting the ISTE Professional Learning Series webinar "Girls, Games, and Coding" on Thursday. The reason to combine games and coding is simple: There is a clear relationship between gaming and technology.

I found this article most interesting because it talked about how some school districts are now getting funding that is allowing their students to have their own personal computer that can be used for school work. It allows them to personalize and download things on to their own computer.

I found this article to be extremely helpful and sort of fun! Its a summer reading list for teachers to help us learn and understand technology and how we can integrate it into our classrooms. Who said teachers could not have summer reading lists as well?

I enjoyed this article because it brought the topic of computer science within the school classroom to light. Computer science is a field sky rocketing in terms of opportunities. There are always jobs available for these types of professions and the industry keeps growing because of the high demand for technological advancement. The idea of training our students so that they are somewhat comfortable with the common computer applications also exposes them to a new world because many students specifically women have little to no interest in such an important and growing field because they've never experience it.

Aside from jobs we should be teaching children computer science because it will them the thinking skills that will help them become proactive learners and citizens. Technology is part of every day life and it is so important, shouldn't we find the time in the school day for this?

Familiarizing yourself with a computer eases the stress of unfamiliar territory because you face trial and error on your own. Collaborating with other educators will alleviate stress and gain knowledge so the teacher can pass this knowledge on to students. In a nut shell integrating technology starts with the teacher.

This article was good in addressing issues in teachers limiting themselves to only integrating technology they were comfortable with, and the vast area of issues concerning teachers not expanding their learning to expand the learning of their students.

This article states that having computers in a classroom does not constitute it being a tech integration classroom. It offers several easy steps that teachers can take to integrate technology into their classroom. For example, accessing the weather forecast or showing a today in history clip. 

This helps students all be able to get the same information without the hassle of what I like to call 'e-mail tag' when they are not in the classroom, for homework and such. But this also helps teachers get her students on the same website when they are in the classroom. A lot of the time spent in computer based classrooms especially with younger grades, is spent setting up the lesson and getting the students onto the webpage. This will decrease the instances of those issues and quicken the set up part of the lesson so there is more time for learning.

What a useful tool for the classroom setting to keep students on task and focused! It guarantees that students won't be roaming the internet during the activity/lesson!

Not a problem.  Evernote is an application that allows you to access your notes anywhere at anytime from any device. Ever note web clipper extension takes the Evernote application one step further. Evernote makes studying for a test and organizing information easier then ever. When you find a good site or good pdf, clip it and save it in your evernote file forever from anywhere. Random computer not a problem just log into your account and you have all the notes you have ever taken on it organized in notebooks. 

I've used the Evernote app in the past, but with this chrome extension, it seems much more useful! The combination of the highlighting feature and the anytime access definitely improves the tool.

This article outlines the benefits of using technology to go paperless. Gwynn Moore, a media technology teacher in Aurora, Colorado, uses Google Classroom with her students. She also uses Google Docs. WIth over 200 students, they help her keep organized. There are many benefits: students can work at their own pace, grading is efficient, templates are easily designed, the sharing of documents, opportunity for collaboration, and voice-to-text writing abilities. Cloud-based tools improve the learning environment.

The article explains how a teacher's decision to go paperless affected the learning process of her students and her performance and organization as a teacher. Using Google Classroom made the grading process easier for her because she did not have to fight with "unreadable" handwriting anymore. She was able to grade the assignments from any device or computer without having to carry tons of paper around. And she was able improve her classroom's organization by keeping track of her students assignments in the cloud. This allowed her to view, grade, and comment on their assignments without damaging or losing them. For the students, it was beneficial as well because it gave them independence and ownership over their own learning. They were also able to work at their own time and space. Google Classroom proved to be beneficial for both the students and the teacher.

Nearly 100% of all Hastings Elementary students have learned how to create basic computer codes. This was accomplished by exposing K-4 graders to something called "block coding" which is where students are given a set of blocks that represent commands. This article really stood out to me because I found it so interesting and amazing how much our society is advancing. Basically, O'Brien has this great idea to take Google Exploration to a whole new level. She has interns that are getting some experience with her job, but she says that they are choosing their jobs with fear. They are taking the safe route because people just do not know exactly what is out there. No one can know the experiences others have with their jobs on a daily basis. This is why O'Brien wants to take Google Exploration to a new level. If you watch the video in the article, it shows exactly what Google Exploration is. It is a new technology that allows students to "travel" anywhere and see what they are actually learning. Better than a picture, better than a computer screen, the students hold up cardboard lenses with an iPhone on the other side, which is a virtual exploration. O'Brien was fascinated by this creation, and wants to capture individuals lives on the screen. She wants students to experience the jobs they are interested in, and see what each one entails. I think this is a brilliant idea for education and it shows the true advancement that we have with technology. This will help individuals all around discover what they want to be in life.

For example, some sites change or update their site. So make sure to check once in awhile. Make sure you have an understanding and now what to do. With things that you are sometimes unsure with, make sure to try to get help with it from someone that may know.

I like that this article is very detailed in how to effectively use technology in the classroom. According to the article, technology incorporation should be seamless, second-nature. The way we use pen and paper today should be the way technology is used. We don't stop to think about how to use the pen and paper in a class; ideally, the same thing should be happening in blended classrooms.

Google Chrome's extension One Tab can be helpful to not only teachers, but people who love to have multiple tabs open at one. This extension allows the user to compile their tabs into a single list clearing up their computer screen making it easier to navigate and sort through the multiple tabs they have open. One of the cool functions this extension performs is allowing a person to export and import their tab list as URLs. It can also allow one to create a webpage from their list of tabs. If a teacher had a bunch of websites they wanted their students to look at they could use this function to send it to them instead of simply listing each website individually. 

I found this post really interesting because this would be something I would definitely use! I get so confused when I have a million tabs open at once, I always click on all of them until I can find the right one. This extension would definitely benefit many students and teachers and keep their lives more organized!
