The article explains that race should not determine some kids going to ivy-league schools while others are barely making it middle school. Soledad O'Brien stated that 70 percent of African American fourth graders could not read on their grade level. She believes that technology in the classroom could help students learn at their own pace and in their own comfort. She believes that a technology gap is a learning gap in students. Every child should have the same opportunity as their peers.

This article suggests that education is not only a civil right, which I agree with, but also acknowledges the role technology plays in the quality of education. I very much enjoyed this article because it challenges the idea of separate but equal in terms of education. Wealth should not determine the quality of one's education yet stories of underprivileged youth receiving little to no education within the poor cities and their dysfunctional school systems is all to common. It is often swept under the rug the amount of injustice and inequality served to poor and marginalized people in our society and i applaud this article for attacking the politics behind it.

This valuable article by Nicole Krueger explores five tips on how to develop a professional learning network amongst fellow educators from all around the world. Michelle has stressed to us in class how so many teachers have "discovered these vibrant learning communities" through means of networking sites such as Pinterest, Twitter, Edmodo, Diigo, Google Classroom, and much more. This assignment, of bookmarking and sharing information, epitomizes the importance of this article as we are enabling one another to grow from each other's ideas.Thus, I think for our class and other educators alike it is important to "dedicate time for networking, joining networks, attending conferences and edcamps, sharing ideas, and asking connected educators for help." The ability of such vast wealths of knowledge to be shared globally between many teachers can only implicate stronger connections and better points of reference for all educators in the future. 

It is an old tradition in Finland to teach a school subject dealing with the use of machines, materials, processes, techniques, and tools. Since 1866, educational sloyd (handicraft) has been a compulsory school subject for both boys and girls. In the technology teacher education program at the Department of Teacher Education in Rauma, University of Turku, students are able to take the curriculum for either one or two teaching subjects. In addition to technology education, a second teaching subject, such as an elementary education or mathematics, entitles them to teach in primary school as an elementary or mathematics teacher. In the technology teacher education program, students study a variety of technologies, mechanical and electrical engineering, product design, project studies, research methodology and statistics, educational sciences and ethics, developmental psychology, didactics of technology education, administration, evaluation, and sociology of education.

This article goes over several very useful chrome extension used in education. One such extension is quizlet, which is a useful replacement to the standard flashcard. The article also talked about google's new dominance in the educational technology sector.

This article is very similar to mine in that the applications they suggest using. Google is an excellent and efficient way for every student to keep themselves organized and prompt with obligations that they have. This article also goes in depth about what the individual apps do.

This article highlights 15 Educational Chrome Extensions that both students and educators can make use of and implement in their learning process. One of the chrome extensions mentioned that I found most useful was called "Spell Bee". This chrome extension acts as a spell checker. It is a proofreader that works on any website. One of the most useful features is that you can add your own word substitutions.

This article explains how virtual worlds, found in such games as Minecraft and Second Life, could be used as tools for educators in the classroom. When Second Life first came out in 2007 educators were excited about the potential to use it for education, but found that it was too unruly and wild. Today ISTE Standards list digital citizenship as one of aspects, which all members of a school district should support. Today digital technology is growing at a fast rate not only in schools but also in society as a whole. Mike Ribble and his college Gerald Bailey wrote a book called "Digital Citizenship in schools." The book defines 9 key elements on how use technology in school, home and within the community. Among the 9 elements are 3 categories: Respect, Educate and Protect. Respect covers using technology correctly and not stealing others property. Educate covers helping users communicate to each other properly and to use literacy correctly as well as buying items online correctly. Protect covers educating others to know their privacy rights. Mike hopes to have these 9 elements created into a curriculum so teachers can use technology at various levels. Mike wants to make sure that educators make sure to help students understand the issues they may encounter online while also showing the positive impact technology can have.

Like Mrs.Wendt this article stresses a PLN as a vital tool to help learn from others and become a better teacher to your students, which we all are striving to be in the future. The article gives 5 reasons why educators should network. They are, learn with others, serve your students, access a dynamic resource, extend your learning base and to stay engaged in education.

This is a very great article, I think that networking with other teachers is how you truly become a great teacher. If teachers did not network and talk to each other they would only know what they were taught in college and not have any hands on experience from other teachers who may have been there for a long time. I also believe in staying in touch with others through social media, it is a great resource.

This article explains the inequality in education and how it needs to be taken more seriously by the public. It explains the controversy involving politics and economics of students in the school system. It's referred to as a civil rights issue because of the flagrant educational gaps emerging within America specifically poor urban neighborhoods. The author also states that technology could be a solution to the problem in that it allows for greater and easier access to information.

In this article it is proposed that students being educated in impoverished areas should not be deprived of a better education compared to students in privileged communities. It explains that technology is the main driver to an opportunity for more learning equality in schools.

This article is helpful to our class because it establishes how important technology integration into our classroom is, and that in order to do so we teachers must be trained professionally. This improves our quality as educators.

The article talks about the importance in keeping up with technology. They believe that people, such as teachers and programs would be "silly" to not stay update with the new technological systems, because that is the way our future is learning and growing. The talk about teachers teaching teachers, stating The Teacher Leadership Project, a nationally recognized, award-winning professional development model that is used in 18 states by 4,200 teachers, is a prime example of the good work being done in technology-infused teaching. "The whole '21st century' mindset is more than technology itself. It's the confidence teachers have to effectively use it in class."

This article outlines new improvements for teacher professional development, involving newer technology upgrades.  One key point of the article was the passing of the Enhancing Education Through Technology, or (EETT) state grant program, which includes a $650 million stimulus package to upgrade technology in classrooms across the country.  Funding is also provided to train the teachers to properly use the technology to its fullest capacity, this way educators can have confidence using these new tools.

Today 18 states (4,200 teachers) were recognized for technology integration in the classrooms. Enhancing Missouri's Instructional Networked Teaching Strategies (eMINTS) is a program that aims to create classrooms where all students are motivated to succeed, build enthusiasm and creativity. eMINTS trained 3,500 teachers and 300 administrators since its formation in 1999. In the 21st century student will have a difficult time succeeding without technology. The article states "Technology integration in the end, is not really about technology, but rather the life skills it instills in students and teachers."

Report Comments Bank is a Google extension app for educators. The app helps teachers shorten the amount of time to write progress reports and it allows teachers to create, save and edit reports throughout the year. Being able to save the reports throughout the year also saves teachers hours from creating end of the year reports. The app is quick and easy to learn and saves teachers a lot of time from writing report cards. This app would be helpful for us because it would help future educators complete reports on time and also have more time to create lesson plans. Reviewers rate this app with five stars for how convenient and how easy it is to use.

This looks like a great extension. Teachers time seems to always be stretched very thin. By helping teachers save more time they can put more time into classroom lessons and activities. I agree that this is a beneficial extension for any teacher.

Wow, that's extremely useful in many ways! Of course any way to save time for a teacher is key. But this also gives the teacher an easy way to track progress of individual students, and really see what areas they shine or need an extra push in. I could also see this as a great way to pass a student off to the next grade level. Upon the new school year, it would be great to give a comprehensive report of the students prior year to each teacher they are starting with. This way, if the student is experiencing the same struggles, there might be a different solution the new teacher can use, or if something worked in the past they could try that method again!

This insightful article written by Bill Smoot stresses the importance of the ubiquity of digital devices impeding the growth of the individual. In today's day and age we are all hyper aware of society's dependence on media. This realization led educator Bill Smoot to assign his students the challenge to spend 48 hours, from 7:00 p.m. Friday to 7:00 p.m. Sunday, without electronic media. The result, "by their own admission, their soulfulness and their capacity for human connection are limited by their media-obsessed way of life." I think these findings and this article as a whole prove very helpful to our class, as although the power technology lends to us is undeniable, it has slowly disconnected us from numerous realities and relationships in our own lives. We soon will have to face this specific issue within our own classrooms. I chose this particular article because I believe we need to remain aware that we are going to be teaching a different generation, one that lives and dies by their digital devices. As educators we need to be prepared to react to this aversion to real life experience and connection. We need to strike a balance for our students so that they realize that technology is provided to enhance our lives, not consume it.

Nearly 100% of all Hastings Elementary students have learned how to create basic computer codes. This was accomplished by exposing K-4 graders to something called "block coding" which is where students are given a set of blocks that represent commands. They use these blogs to "debug" and "create" a program. The article also outlines technology literacy.

When integrating technology into the classroom, it is important to remember 5 different topics - attitude, pragmatism, humility, adaption, and self-scaffolding. Be open to ideas and uses of technology students may want to show you and when introducing something new, always remember baby steps.
