I've heard such good things from people that use TweetDeck! I haven't used it much myself but I definitely agree that it would be useful in my future classroom. The fact that both students and teachers can use it makes it even better to use in the classroom. Great share!
  •
    1. I would use TweetDeck in my classroom in terms of finding and following people/organizations on Twitter. I personally do NOT want to follow my students on Twitter, however :-) 2. I think the resource is mostly for teacher use. While it could be used by students, I am not sure how I would integrate a tool like this into my classroom instruction (especially since I cannot control what is posted by others to make sure the information is appropriate to my audiences). 3. There are other resources that can do similar things - a cursory search of the App Store provides access to both free and paid alternatives.
  •
I can see this being used in the classroom to help send out updates on what is going on that day. I believe that this could be used best for teacher usage to mainly do pictures and to give recognition to someone that might have done something cool and unique that day.

The EdTech Roundup - Home - 2 views

I ended up reading a few of the blog posts from this site. I haven't experienced any school or class that does BYOD, so I wonder how that works in schools that do that.
  •
I remember in when I was in high school, if a student would have their phone with them, they would get in trouble. Nowadays, teachers are taking this change in society to their advantage. Teachers that do not work at a 1:1 school are using the BYOD, or bring your own device. I think this website can be used by both teachers and students. I think this because both the students and teachers will be effected by BYOD. I have never seen another website about this topic, but that does not mean there isn't any.

What Does a 21st Century Classroom Look Like: Technology Integration | Edutopia - 4 views

  •
I enjoyed this article because it talks about the 10 signs of a 21st century classroom and how to work on achieving these goals.
  •
This is a good resource to use with administrators and school board members. I feel like sometimes we run into roadblocks because people just don't know what technology integration should look like. This resource could also be used with teachers to give them some ideas on how a technology integrationist could provide support to them in the classroom.
  •
This is a good article to look at. I feel that it would be good for a classroom because it is talking about how to transform a classroom into a 21st century classroom and what it should look like. This would definitely benefit both teacher and student. The teacher can use the technology to help teach while the students can use the technology to help learn and grow.

Studies of student engagement in gamified online discussions - ScienceDirect - 2 views

I definitely think this could be useful for my classroom. It gives data showing students are engaged in gamification. Teachers could use this journal article as an argument for why gamification can and should in some cases be used in the classroom.
  •
This is a great article and it goes right along with my topic. I really like that is is showing the promotion of student engagement through online discussions. Sometimes it might be easier for a student to engage in an online discussion because they may be less shy on a keyboard.

Hi Sara! This is a great article that I think will be helpful for what I've chosen for my final project for Dr. Z's class which I hope to utilize in my own classroom. The last point in the article was really relateable for me, especially with the global collab project we just completed. It is important to realize that in a project like this, not everything can be controlled. I also really enjoyed the point about asking your students if they are comfortable with it. I think that we all experienced some discomfort in our project, so making sure students of a younger age are okay talking to strangers would be incredibly important.
  •
Hi! Thank you so much for sharing! I think that global collaboration projects are an amazing opportunity for kids to be able to participate in. It's amazing how much technology can do for us. I can't wait for the future generations to become adults :) What a different world it will be!
  •
    1. I agree that this could be used in my own future classroom -- but it would be contingent on finding the right topic and group to collaborate with. 2. I think that the resource is mostly for teacher use as it provides an overview and tips/tricks for teachers. 3. Other resources that might want to be considered are the different websites shared by Dr. Z during class.
  •
I agree that this could be used in a classroom. This can be a good way to help students better understand a topic that they are learning at that time. I feel though it would be more for the teacher usage for a younger age. I feel that a global collaboration might be difficult for elementary students unless they work with anyone older than them in their district. Otherwise, I feel it would be a good experience for older students as well.

Perhaps I don't know enough about how true RPG games work, but I'm struggling with the way the points in class-craft do not interact with one another. Activity Points seem like they should be a privelege since they allow students to use their "powers" but they are not in any way effected by the system. I think this is an easy-to-use tool that students get excited about, but I am struggling with how to implement it in my classroom in a way that will be effective.

Hi Dave, I think that this is a great resource for any teacher who is considering getting into the educational realm of Twitter. I agree that Twitter can give teachers a refreshing look at education, away from the everyday politics in a building. I've really been enjoying finding new resources and finding inspiring educators. Great article!

Twitter has become one of my favorite social media tools! I am finding so many more resources to share with my teachers. I think this article is one I want to share with my colleagues to get them going!

In high school I never would have thought that Twitter could be used as a resource in the classroom, but it mostly definitely can be. It's a great tool for both teachers and students as a sharing platform and connecting with others. I will use Twitter in my future classroom and hope that other teachers will be on board with the idea, too!

I have experienced twitter use in the classroom numerous times through my experience during college. I think it is a great way to utilize social media in a safe way. Students can easily share information because they use twitter all the time. I think this website could be used by both teachers and students because they will need to know how to use twitter in the classroom. I defiantly want to use Twitter in my classroom in the future.

    1. I can see myself using Twitter in my classroom in the future. I am still overcoming my hesitation to use social media in an educational setting...I think it is just going to take time and continued practice! :-) 2. The resource deals mostly with teacher use, but the tool could be used with teachers and students. 3. There are many different social media tools that could be used with students. The important part is selecting tools that are appropriate for the audience.

Gamification of a classroom requires dedication. These kind of studies just blow my mind. Great resource to learn a bit more about gamification and student engagement.
  •
I think that I can definitely use this resource in my classroom once I feel more confident at gamification because leaderboards is something that I struggle with. I don't want students to feel down about where they are at but I also want students to feel proud of their accomplishments. It is so interesting to me that a student will work so hard to complete a level or to be on the top when they are so frustrated. They are truly persevering through the difficulties.
  •
Thanks for sharing Dave. I never seem to get tired of reading about gamification. It's so interesting. I definitely think that this can be used as a resource for teachers.
  •
Gamification is very unique inside of a classroom now that I have a better idea on what it is. I feel that it fits perfectly inside of a classroom because it gives the room a whole new look. It can be beneficial for both teacher and student because the teacher can use the game to help get the students attention and help better their learning. Then the students can use it to help with their learning and become more engaged to what they are being taught and having it be put into a fun way of learning.
