This Blog is about the use of digital cameras in early childhood settings.  It was a part of Week 2's work but I wanted to book mark it here because I thought it might be useful for assignment part 1.

Hi Kate I also found this site very informative and used this in my blog. I love photos and I strongly believe that digital cameras play an important role in early childhood settings and advocate the importantance of allowing children to explore their world through using digital camera. Working in 3-5 room I have seen many positive expereinces, including behaviour management, as children use digital camera. Sadly the new qualified teacher the centre has employed views camera for "teachers' only (not even assistants can use them) and only one photo per month per child and no viewing them on the television. Its great to hear people say that we need to work together. I remember years ago a friend of mine (who was a Grade 6 teacher) told me of her frustration when she would encourage her students and they were alive with excitement to learn and explore and the work they handed in was exceptional from her point of view. However, six months into the next year she would be so disappointed because the grades of the Year 7 students would be declining and their attitude was one of apathy. What she wanted to do was to work with the Year 7 teacher so with a combined effort they could assist the students to continue their positive attitude throughout their time at upper primary school. The Year 7 teacher felt threatened and the sad cycle continued. This is a website I came across on Terry Rees blog page http://terryrees.edublogs.org/ . She says one of the most important things for her is to develop a sustainable and quality Personal Learning Network (PLN) with other professionals with which she can share ideas, experiences, thoughts, and seek advice. If you are in need of resources and advice for starting a PLN this may help. Thanks Terry for putting me on to it. Hopefully others will find it useful too.

Great ideas for using digital cameras in education

I like the idea for the math concepts. This would also make a good homework activity - ask students to photograph 3D shapes or angles etc.

I love this website. Great ideas and very useful also. I hope you dont mind if I share this. Thanks. Great idea for young children to get introduced to ways you can use a digital camera. Simple things like croping, editing etc.

This an app that a friend of mine created and is now launch for people to download and to use. I think is great and worth a look.

We were given this resource by David Martin for our EDX3280 Maths course. It is great for all mainstream education and there may even be some application for higher learning, like TAFE.

Another site for online maths practice. Very popular.

This is the site David showed us for making word clouds this week. Great for all ages.

More for actual teachers as need to sign up, but you can have a free trial. Teachers at my work use this a lot for letter recognition and literacy practice. Something to keep for future - great for early childhood and special ed.

readingeggs is great Michelle!! I use it with the children I work with, and is especially beneficial for learning difficulties.

This site is Australian and really switched on. It has a newsletter that keeps teachers current with latest education info, has resources that are fantastic (like cool Bloom's stickers, teacher diary and so on). I've been subscribed to them for years and have benefitted so sharing my toolbelt.

Like Paint.net but more options. Lots of options. I downloaded this recently and need more time to master, but it would be great for primary, secondary and adult ed.

I used resources on this website for my WebQuest. They have audio instructions which is great for early childhood and special ed. Very educational, interactive and engaging.

A great site that lets you capture screen images much more efficiently by isolating the specific section on the screen. I got this from Gizmo's freeware site too.
