The Australian Curriculum - 1 views

ACARA's implementation of the Australian Curriculum will enable students an equal and enriching education throughout the nation. As a future educator and studying for the past 4 years education, it is enlightening to know that in the near future, Australia as a nation will have one type of education for all states. The Australian Curriculum will enable teachers to travel throughout Australia, be able to provide students with a consistent learning experience, and will endeavor to advance and push students in a positive direction. I am all for the Australian Curriculum and am excited to know that this is the way that education is heading. The equality of the Australian Curriculum not only for educators as well as students, but for parents, knowing that their children will benefit from equal learning opportunities. The Learning Areas for the Australian Curriculum currently include: English, Mathematics, Science and History. General capabilities, a key dimension of the Australian Curriculum, are addressed explicitly in the content of the learning areas. They play a significant role in realising the goals set out in the Melbourne Declaration on Educational Goals for Young Australians (MCEETYA 2008) - that all young people in Australia should be supported to become successful learners, confident and creative individuals, and active and informed citizens. The Australian Curriculum includes seven general capabilities: Literacy Numeracy Information and communication technology (ICT) capability Critical and creative thinking Personal and social capability Ethical understanding Intercultural understanding. http://www.australiancurriculum.edu.au/File/C26D8605-FAA2-4B40-BE10-A15500EE1EB6. 1. Interesting to me in a sense that this teacher uses a lot of creative resources in her classroom, incorporates ICT's (the wide web) to share with other teachers - which is helpful in a sense of gathering knowledgable and creative resources. Gives lots of insights into the classroom, and shares life as a teacher - and the resources she uses for her students in the classroom.

Down under teacher is an Australian teacher's blog if the title has not gave it away for you. It appears to be particularly focused towards the Early Primary setting. She also experienced great difficulty getting in touch with other Australian teachers so you will find she has created a tab and encouraged other Australian teacher's to come forward with the names of their blogs.

After blogging each week and linking resources, I wondered if their were any resources online especially created to assist teachers or preservice teachers based on the Australian curriculum. Amazingly, I googled 'Australian curriculum resources' and found this amazing website that includes books that are created for different subjects and based on the Australian curriculum.

Down Under Teacher: Aussie Blogs - 10 views

  •
Hi all - this blog has been created by an Australian teacher, she has compiled a list of other Aussie teachers and some of the creativity that these guys have is amazing. While a lot is to do with the younger years and not a lot of ICTs, it's a great way to share creative ideas to keep children engaged. I thought it was worth the mention!

This blog is by a fellow Queenslander who teaches the 4th grade currently so I find this blog to be super relevant. It also contain a few freebie resources for activities in the classroom and also little posters to display around primary school classrooms.

I thought this one was good because it is an Australian perspective rather than an international perspective.

I often get emails asking if I know of other Aussie blogs. I know how hard it can be to find them - when I started my blog, I couldn't really find any other Aussies at all! I called my blog Down Under Teacher in the hope that I would connect with other Aussies.

  • According to KPMG demographer Bernard Salt, the great challenge of the future will be for workers to embrace huge change.
  • Salt says that while all workers will need technology proficiency, it is in fact ‘soft skills’ that must be taught to Australian children. ‘This is the skill of being fluid, flexible, agile, social,” Salt told Yahoo7 Finance.
