Virtual Tours - 4 views

  •
I discovered Virtual Tours while on prac in America. It was a great way to show my students some of Australia's sites and they loved being able to work through the images and information at their own pace. Since then I have toured museums and galleries from all over the world without even leaving my desk.
  •
Hi Tamara I looked at the site. Interesting - is it just still images though or are there actual virtual tours? I am keen on using the site but not sure I have the full idea/scope sorted out yet. Thank you http://mrsrobins.edublogs.org/ Jamie

Hi Jamie, Yes for the most part this site comprises of still images and written information...I primarily chose this one to share as it provides a wide range of art galleries. With using gallery tours in my pracs I have found that the still images are easier for students to view, analyse and work through at their own pace than a video feed. There are a few video tours availbale...many can be found on the website for the specific location (I have had more luck finding American and British than Australian tours) but they are definitely worth a look at if you get the chance. http://tammyjoy.edublogs.org Tammy

Another good online resource.  This one is free and while it is British Based it covers most year levels; Early Years, Key Stage 1 (yr1-2), Key Stage 2 (yr3-6).  I have used a few of the early years resources and found the very useful.

Hi I accidently stumbled across Educreators (similiar to Edublogs on a goggle search late at night). It is amazing I even watched a lesson about fractions. It is resources like these which makes me determine to provide my students with fun and engaging lessons - just which this type of teaching was around when I was in primary school. http://www.educreations.com/browse/ Bec.

Digital cameras in early childhood settings : Children's Services - 6 views

  •
This Blog is about the use of digital cameras in early childhood settings.  It was a part of Week 2's work but I wanted to book mark it here because I thought it might be useful for assignment part 1.
  •
Hi Kate I also found this site very informative and used this in my blog. I love photos and I strongly believe that digital cameras play an important role in early childhood settings and advocate the importantance of allowing children to explore their world through using digital camera. Working in 3-5 room I have seen many positive expereinces, including behaviour management, as children use digital camera. Sadly the new qualified teacher the centre has employed views camera for "teachers' only (not even assistants can use them) and only one photo per month per child and no viewing them on the television. Its great to hear people say that we need to work together. I remember years ago a friend of mine (who was a Grade 6 teacher) told me of her frustration when she would encourage her students and they were alive with excitement to learn and explore and the work they handed in was exceptional from her point of view. However, six months into the next year she would be so disappointed because the grades of the Year 7 students would be declining and their attitude was one of apathy. What she wanted to do was to work with the Year 7 teacher so with a combined effort they could assist the students to continue their positive attitude throughout their time at upper primary school. The Year 7 teacher felt threatened and the sad cycle continued. When I read http://www.independent.co.uk/news/education/education-news/blog-early-blog-often-the-secret-to-making-boys-write-properly-2211232.html as well as http://www.letthechildrenplay.net I was thrilled to hear what great progress is being made by teachers/schools when they collaborate. Thanks for the info.

PLN ideas - 2 views

  •
This is a website I came across on Terry Rees blog page http://terryrees.edublogs.org/ . She says one of the most important things for her is to develop a sustainable and quality Personal Learning Network (PLN) with other professionals with which she can share ideas, experiences, thoughts, and seek advice. If you are in need of resources and advice for starting a PLN this may help. Thanks Terry for putting me on to it. Hopefully others will find it useful too.

Great tips for using a digital camera in the classroom
  •
I like the idea for the math concepts. This would also make a good homework activity - ask students to photograph 3D shapes or angles etc.
  •
I love this website. Great ideas and very useful also. I hope you dont mind if I share this. Thanks. Great idea for young children to get introduced to ways you can use a digital camera. Simple things like croping, editing etc.

More for actual teachers as need to sign up, but you can have a free trial. Teachers at my work use this a lot for letter recognition and literacy practice. Something to keep for future - great for early childhood and special ed.
