    I'm not sure how useful people will find this, however some might use it so I've included it. it contains translations of coins and seals from the Byzantine Empire organised around historical personalities and topics.

    This edition completes the inclusion of published archival material from the monasteries of Mt Athos, and that relating to Nea Mone (Chios). it adds basic treatment of Byzantine italy till the capture of Bari (1071). There has been considerable tidying throughout, but especially at the beginning and end, a process which will continue in the next edition (2007.1). The main emphasis of that edition will be on seals.

Gus Hall (1910-2000): Stalinist operative and decades-long leader of Communist Party USA - 2 views

  • The Stalinist apparatus in the Kremlin was able to carry out its taming of the American party in large measure by appropriating the mantle of the Russian Revolution. At the same time it exploited ideological and political weaknesses within the American party and the US labor movement in general, weaknesses that took the form of national provincialism and indifference to theory.
  • By the time of the Great Depression, which brought new political opportunities and challenges in the US and elsewhere, the Stalinist grip on the American CP was complete.

      The new leadership of the Communist Party in 1958 found that bringing Communism to the US working class was impossible (It had been tied to Stalin who was hated by all in America.)  So they decided to get their way by workign wIthin the exisIting polItical structure.  They became staunch supporters of the Democratic Party and the Unions to make their inItiatives realIty.

Millions of American workers, students and youth found themselves well to the left of the misnamed Communist Party during the 1960s and 1970s.   • For decades, Sweden, once a racially and culturally homogeneous country with an expansive social welfare system, insisted that it could absorb large numbers of non-European migrants without considering how those migrants should be integrated into Swedish society.

More young women have started wearing the hijab recently, Mr. Abdirahman tells me, and more young men “internalize the otherness” — rejected by their new society, they embrace the stereotypes imposed upon them. This can lead to a point where they reject gay rights or liberalism as “white, Western ideas,” and even attack firefighters because they represent the state.

Sweden’s party landscape, in other words, might be blown to pieces.If the country is lucky, some parts from this explosion will bind together as a new force — one that takes seriously the need for realism on immigration and integration, without falling for the siren song of right-wing populism.
