The political cartoons in this exhibit, drawn by renowned cartoonist Clifford K. Berryman, illustrate the campaign process from the candidate's decision to run for office to the ultimate outcome of the election. Although many political procedures have changed, these cartoons show that the political process has remained remarkably consistent; Berryman's cartoons from the early 20th century remain relevant today. Most of these cartoons appeared on the front page of Washington newspapers from 1898 through 1948. They are part of a collection of nearly 2,400 pen-and-ink drawings by Berryman.

The final videos can all be found here.  I hesitate to embed any in the post because I know I would be prone to pick the "best" one.  Please click on the link and randomly select one to watch! There are two pages of videos-and hey-leave a comment or a thumbs up!  I have to say, that after watching the kids make these, the final products just don't reflect the amount of work that is needed.  What I mean is that you shouldn't watch them and say "My kids could do that in a couple of days."  It took 360 minutes of class time to produce those 1-2 minute videos!! One thing I wished we had done is to write transitions so that the different videos linked together better.  I inadvertently led them to make videos on topics that come across as standing alone in time instead of being influenced and apart of other events and movements. Strategic studies have retained the thinking of Karl von Clausewitz at its core. The Prussian General's understanding of war by reference to the political process saw wars as the "continuation of politics by other means" (Clausewitz, 1997). In conflict research, this has become the most widely quoted definition of war. What made Clausewitz's work 'On War' so successful was that he wrote about war by focusing on its general aspects, or more simply, on the spirit of war as he saw it. In this way, war no longer drew on narrow and specific contexts, but rather became understood, as an enduring phenomenon, in general terms.

I'm not sure how useful people will find this, however some might use it so I've included it. It contains translations of coins and seals from the Byzantine Empire organised around historical personalities and topics.

This edition completes the inclusion of published archival material from the monasteries of Mt Athos, and that relating to Nea Mone (Chios). It adds basic treatment of Byzantine Italy till the capture of Bari (1071). There has been considerable tidying throughout, but especially at the beginning and end, a process which will continue in the next edition (2007.1). The main emphasis of that edition will be on seals.

Create, Express, Learn with PRIMARY SOURCE MATERIALS - I'd like to share 5 sites that go one step further than Creative Commons materials. These sites host primary source materials and encourage young people to use them to produce and publish their own creations. Some even include online tools to help students with the process.

The Lincoln Archives Digital Project started in 2002 with a simple idea for a vast undertaking: to digitize all federal records that exist from the administration of Abraham Lincoln.  Over 6,000 documents are currently online and over half a million documents are scanned and in the process of being placed online.  People from around the world now have access to the documents of  Abraham Lincoln's administration, including Civil War records. 

A useful overview of the importance of research in high school history and how it is generally structured in Queensland. Relates particularly to the QLD syllabus but other jurisdictions may find it interesting. Research is particularly emphasised in our current curricula here at the moment. Thanks Lisa!

Redraw the map on redistricting. Legislators have long used redistricting as an opportunity to select their constituents, rather than empowering voters to elect their representatives.
