On September 11, 1776, Benjamin Franklin, John Adams and Edward Rutledge were sent by the Continental Congress to met with Admiral Howe at the Conference House in Staten Island, New York. Their mission was to avoid a war. After only three hours the meeting ended. They failed! What could have happened that day? That's what our project is all about. The goal of this project is for classes to negotiate ... via email ... and try to come up with a treaty that could have avoided the American Revolution! This project can also be adapted for any other war!

Excellent source for American culture in the late 30's.

These life histories were compiled and transcribed by the staff of the Folklore Project of the Federal Writers' Project for the U.S. Works Progress (later Work Projects) Administration (WPA) from 1936-1940. The Library of Congress collection includes 2,900 documents representing the work of over 300 writers from 24 states. Typically 2,000-15,000 words in length, the documents consist of drafts and revisions, varying in form from narrative to dialogue to report to case history.

This article provides a case study of  how the CRCD framework shaped the  development of the "Day in the Life of  a Teenage Hobo Project," a multi-day  investigation into the social history of  teenage homelessness during the Great  Depression. Using the framework, Tom  Daccord, a former U.S. history teacher  and current academic technology specialist in Massachusetts, designed a  project that used multiple technologies- search engines, blogs, and podcasting  tools-to help students investigate the  political, economic, and social history  of the Great Depression. 

Born in Slavery: Slave Narratives from the Federal Writers' Project, 1936-1938 contains more than 2,300 first-person accounts of slavery and 500 black-and-white photographs of former slaves. These narratives were collected in the 1930s as part of the Federal Writers' Project of the Works Progress Administration (WPA) and assembled and microfilmed in 1941 as the seventeen-volume Slave Narratives: A Folk History of Slavery in the United States from Interviews with Former Slaves.

"The Center for Research Libraries, the University of Chicago Library, and the ARTFL Project, (American and French Research on the Treasury of the French Language) have cooperated on a project to digitize pamphlets and periodicals from the French Revolution of 1848 held by CRL as a test of electronic distribution of archive material via internet.

Digitised pamphlets from the period of the French Revolution. From what I can tell they're all in French. C'est la vie (I probably misspelt that).

This is a 5 minute video video introduction to the "Here is Where" Project. "President Harry Truman once said that "the only thing new in this world is the history you don't know." The TwHistory project began in early 2009 with the first Twitter reenactment of the Battle of Gettysburg over a period of several weeks. TwHistory is based on the idea that historical reenactments can take place online and have positive effects for all involved. In school settings these virtual reenactments can increase engagement while providing opportunities for students to research personal journals and other primary source documents. Seems to have a few sources in there, strong ideological agenda aside. Might be good for teaching the history of the poor or minorities.
