Title: How Does Religion Affect the Lives of Adolescents? Date: 11-30-2005 Author: Jennifer Elliot Summary and why important: This was an excellent article about religion and adolescence. It was well written, had great sources, it taped onto this issue from all the sides. It talked about the media's influence, how recent religious scandal might or have affected faith in our young generation and it explained that religion is one of the factors that influences adolescents to make the right choices and not the only one. How it has change my thinking: I liked this article because it seemed impartial, it did not glorify or vilify those who practice religion and those who do not. It was realistic, it explained some great concepts, and everything was backed by research. Credibility: the author has a BS in Mass Communication, a BS in Psychology and is a Certified Mental Health Technician. This article was published on yahoo! voices which is a great website with a good reputation.

It is a reflection on a study conducted on more than 21,000 couples in all the United states and gives 10 easy tips on what to do to improve your marriage and also gives the top 10 reasons that cause problems for a marriage. I think it is an easy piece to read for everyone at every stage of their married life. How it changed my thinking: Most of the tips are common sense that everyone will agree to it but more than often we fail to follow; reading them kind of reinforces their message. Credibility of source: The website "first things first" is a non profit grass roots organization that came to be as a tool to help the residents of Hamilton county , Tennessee. Apparently they have a high divorce rate and other relationship and children rearing issues and this website offers advice, support and education on hoe to deal with family problems on a day to day basis. Dozens of books are written every year about the things that go wrong in marriage. Now one of America's foremost marriage researchers has evaluated the things that go right in marriage. David H. How This Influenced My Thinking: This article gave me a more in depth perception on how the choices we making in our middle adulthood can effect the life expectancy of our life. Title:Why I Love My 50-Year-Old Body Date Published: January 7, 2013 Author: Dr. Lisa Kaplin Why Relevant and Summary: this article is relevant because it talks about the body at age 50. it tell people to love their body and not to discourage or be ashamed of it. it explains how to maintain being healthy and hoe to eat right at 50. it is a useful article for those who have body image issues at an older age. How This Influenced My Thinking: this made me realize that people have major body image issues even after they are older. it makes me stop and think that even through all that these older folk have been through, somehow the image that is distilled on the younger generation caught up to the older generation and made them want to be in their 20's all over again when their bodies were at the peak of being viewed as beautiful. Credibility: it was published by a doctor who has study within this field. seem pretty credible to me.

In the recent disease heart attack are the number one killer of women and most of them can be prevented if we recognize the early symptoms. how has this influenced my thinking: Even though I am not quite that old, I do have an aging mother and mother in law, this is something that they need to be aware and my husband and I as well. Credibility: the article is published in a health and wellness online magazine, and even though the author is not a doctor, I am pretty sure she got her information for credible sources.

It addresses bodily, mental and emotional changes as well as lifestyle adjustments. How this influenced my thinking: Although our bodies age and change over time, another birthday does not have to mean a loss of fitness or attractiveness. Women who eat clean, healthy diets and exercise regularly, are less likely to age as quickly as women who are sedentary and eat poor diets of processed foods. I have a 53 year old yoga instructor who can pass for 35. I hope I look that good at 50! For most women, her 50s mean menopause. But it is not really a pause at all. Menopause is more like a shift. Your hormone levels shift and change, and your body shifts out of its childbearing years into a new state of balance.

I believe that it is a good site because it goes into IQ test and how they work on children. How This Influenced My Thinking: It made me realize that children are more complex in their intelligence than I thought them to be. Their brains are a mystery and everyone learns and thinks differently. Credibility of Source: It is from a mental health website.

Although it doesn't include many details of what contributes to a child's self-esteem it does clearly define what its makeup is. How This Influenced My Thinking: This was interesting to me because it summed up the definition of self-esteem in a nutshell. I am personally interested in how to promote a healthy self-esteem in children but this website gives a good foundation for the outline of what self-esteem is and what factors affect it. Credibility of Source: It looks like it's some sort of personal website; however, it does cite studies and seems to back up its statements with scientific data.

This article talks about bonding and how it really affects both the child and the parent. Its relevant because it's an important part of pregnancy, communicating and bonding while in the womb. This article also gives examples of what a positive environment might look like when bonding has taken place in the womb, and what it looks like after birth. How This Influenced My Thinking: It shows me that singing and talking to your belly is absolutely okay. Some people don't rub their belly or talk to their baby and sometimes, that can cause a slight disconnection in bonding when the baby is born.
