Title: Habituation - The Most Basic Form of Learning Author: Kendra Cherry Date Published: no date Why Relevant and Summary: I found this short excerpt helpful in defining habituation, but also explaining how this process is a method of learning for infants. How This Influenced my Thinking: This made me think about how infants use this as a method of learning; after observing an object until it is instilled in memory and moving along to newer objects and stimuli further their knowledge. Its the beginning of their being "scientists" and observing their environment and assessing it. Credibility of Source: recognized the journalist, informational website with section for Psychology and has other topics about infant development

They also go into explaining the nine temperament traits and give examples of each. How This Influenced My Thinking: I never really thought much about how important temperament was in children as well as goodness-of-fit when it came to the child's biology and their environment. Credibility of Source: very credible video featuring Thomas and Chess discussing temperament and their proposed concept of goodness-of-fit.

How to use your type of parenting style for your child's temperament. How This Influenced My Thinking: It helps my thinking because I'm able to see what kind of parenting style I have, what the temperaments of my children are and how I can match them so that my children are succeeding in life. Credibility of Source: I think its credible, a doctor wrote it along with supporting evidence of research.

How This Influenced My Thinking: Makes the idea of ZPD and scaffolding very clear in my mind and reinforced the importance of this idea. It also covers experiments performed and breaks them down to show how infants react to stimuli for periods of time. How This Influenced My Thinking: This reinforced my beliefs on habituation and dishabituation and increased my knowledge on the subject. Credibility of Source:Uses references and research so it is pretty reliable

Title: Goodness of Fit: The Challenge of Parenting Gifted Children Author: Andrew Mahoney Date Published: No Date Why Relevant and Summary: This article is relevant because it talks about how a parent should be prepared according to the child. It also discusses a wide range of what to keep in mind when it comes to a child's temperament. How this influenced my thinking: This changed the way I think because it goes in detail how truly prepared a parent has to be. Credibility of source: it seems reliable it has refrences and cites everything.

Title: Lev Vygotsky Author: Saul McLeod Date Published: 2007 Why Relevant and Summary: Talks about Vygotsky and the theories that he created. It also has a good comparison between Vygotsky and Piaget. How This Influenced My Thinking: It was good additional material that went more in depth on the topic, and had some information that the textbook did not cover. Credibility of Source: Good - the author is a professor at Wigan and Leigh college.

The effects of Vygotsky's theory is presented and there is also a video that talks about the differences of both theories. How This Influenced My Thinking:I learned a lot more about Vygotsky and how his and Piaget's theory differ from one another. Credibility of Source:Credible.

How This Influenced My Thinking: This helped me know that children should have somewhat of independence and freedom to learn skills that'll benefit them in the future. This will teach the child to be responsible and to be independent. Credibility of Source: very credible

How This Influenced My Thinking: It helped me better understand what temperament in a child can influence development. Credibility of Source: Credible, the article by Dr. Meyers seemed to be thoroughly researched and well written in a way that was reader friendly.

Babies brains are made for learning. Brain development is based both on genes and the stimulation and care given to the infant. Parents should interact with their baby by talking to them. Use a high pitched voice. Let your baby explore their environment and play with your baby. How This Influenced My Thinking:It's amazing to know that with each experience a baby encounters, it only aids in brain development. Credibility of Source:It seems to be credible from an .edu site with plenty of references.

Title- Piaget's theory of cognitive development author- Many published- 2012 why relevant- This webpage talks about Piaget's theory, assimilation and accommodation, and breaks down all the motor stages. how influenced-Although i did view other websites to learn more about Piaget's theory of development. I felt that wiki broke it down in a way that not many other sites did. I was able to see what was going on in each stage of development, and it even went further into explaining the substages and what they encompass. credibility of source- I checked what wiki was telling me against other, more credible websites so i feel that the info i got was credible, even if the site itself has a bad rep for being credible :)

Title: Social Emotional Development: 24-36 months Author: No author Date Published: 2010 Why Relevant and Summary: This is an accessible guide for parents of two year olds to learn ways to help their toddler understand his feelings, encourage early friendships, letting the child lead in play, and supporting older toddlers' developing skills, as well as helping the child learn to resolve conflict in healthy ways, understand reasons for limits/request, use language to communicate needs. How this influenced my thinking: As a mother of two children (fairly recently out of the toddler stage) this gave me quite a bit to reflect on as far as my own parenting and how I can make improvements going forward should I ever have more children, and it would likely influence any advice I may give out to parents of toddlers. Credibility of Source: National Center for Infants, Toddlers and Families is an organization dedicated to healthy child development, so this publication is likely backed by solid research.

Title: ADHD Overview Author: Jacob Silverman Date Published: No date Why relevant and summary: This is a comprehensive overview of ADHD, the causes, symptoms, diagnoses, treatments and related disorders. There are also a number of other highly relevant articles that are easily accessible on this site. How this influenced my thinking: There is a lot of information about raising a child with ADHD. I've never had experience with this in regards to my own children, but as a former teacher I have been aware of the 'basics' for many years. There is so much to learn and understand on this topic, especially so that caregivers can be more understanding of individualized needs and be less likely to judge or treat children with ADHD differently. Credibility of source: This is a Discovery Health article. It may not be highly credible in it's own right, but likely pulled it's information from scholarly/medical/research based resources.

It talks about the types of ADHD and the symptoms. It also has a section where it discusses ADHD in adults, and what it is in adults. It also discusses what causes ADHD and how to determine if someone around you has ADHD. How this influenced my thinking: I know a lot more about ADHD. Credibility of Source: It seems credible it cites other soruces.

Title: Baby Delight Author: unknown Date Published: 2013 Why Relevant & Summary: Upon studying the benefits but potential dangers of cosleeping, I was interested in how I could find a safe way to cosleep with my baby that would give me a feeling of safety but also the closeness I'd like to have with my baby. This product is simple, there are two different models, but basically allow baby the safety of sleeping with mom and dad while being close. How This Influenced My Thinking: Knowing the potential dangers of cosleeping, I would encourage friends and family to consider this option for their baby, and for myself in the future. Title: 10 Ways to Raise a Grateful kid Author: Homa Tavangar Date Published: ND Why Relevant and Summary: This article is very helpful if one is doing Assignment 9 on "Parenting a Toddler". It gives several examples on how to make your child grateful for everything and in the process it also helps children to be more social and overcome shyness. How this influenced my thinking: This article was very helpful. I was aware of all of the examples but it definitely made me put in action the examples whenever I have a toddler, because I definitely want them to be well educated and respectful. Credibility of Source: This article seems credible, since it's from PBS Parents
