Babies brains are made for learning. Brain development is based both on genes and the stimulation and care given to the infant. Parents should interact with their baby by talking to them. Use a high pitched voice. Let your baby explore their environment and play with your baby. How This Influenced My Thinking:It's amazing to know that with each experience a baby encounters, it only aids in brain development. Credibility of Source:It seems to be credible from an .edu site with plenty of references.

Title- Mary Ainsworth Author- Saul Mcleod Date published-2008 Why relevant and summary- This site goes into depth about who Mary Ainsworth is, what she did for psychology, and how she came to develop her theory of secure attachment. The site gives a lot of information on the different attachment styles and what they mean, as well as providing a video that illustrates the different types of attachment. How this influenced my thinking- This influenced my thinking by allowing me to see how crucial of a role attachment plays in the development of children. Title: ADHD Overview Author: Jacob Silverman Date Published: No date Why relevant and summary: This is a comprehensive overview of ADHD, the causes, symptoms, diagnoses, treatments and related disorders. There are also a number of other highly relevant articles that are easily accessible on this site. How this influenced my thinking: There is a lot of information about raising a child with ADHD. I've never had experience with this in regards to my own children, but as a former teacher I have been aware of the 'basics' for many years. There is so much to learn and understand on this topic, especially so that caregivers can be more understanding of individualized needs and be less likely to judge or treat children with ADHD differently. Credibility of source: This is a Discovery Health article. It may not be highly credible in it's own right, but likely pulled it's information from scholarly/medical/research based resources.

It talks about the types of ADHD and the symptoms. It also has a section where it discusses ADHD in adults, and what it is in adults. It also discusses what causes ADHD and how to determine if someone around you has ADHD. How this influenced my thinking: I know a lot more about ADHD. Credibility of Source: It seems credible it cites other soruces.

It discusses the 3 subtypes of adhd that i didnt even know existed. And it tells you what it used to treat it. how it influenced my thinking- This site influenced my thinking on what adhd is because before, i thought it was a straight forward disorder that people took medication for. But after visiting this site, i realized that there are different types, and it affects people differently. Not everyone is medicated for it, and many people go through life undiagnosed. credibility of source- credible since its a government website

It gives several examples on how to make your child grateful for everything and in the process it also helps children to be more social and overcome shyness. How this influenced my thinking: This article was very helpful. I was aware of all of the examples but it definitely made me put in action the examples whenever I have a toddler, because I definitely want them to be well educated and respectful. Credibility of Source: This article seems credible, since it's from PBS Parents

There are four main parenting styles that are out there and each child was parented by at least one of them. How this influenced my thinking: It made me realize that there are more parenting styles out there than what how my parents parented me. It makes me happy that my parents parented me the way they did because i do not like the other type of parenting styles. Focusing on weight creates weight prejudice. this is relevant because people who are obese are more likely to be bullied about their weight (even if they are living healthy). How this Changed my Thinking: There are different ways to view fighting obesity, and focusing on lifestyle is healthier for self-esteem. McKenna Ph.D. Date Published: October 1997 Why Relevant and Summary: This article brings up research about cosleeping (not from the past 10 years sadly). It brings up the links with SIDS and the benefits to the mother and child who practice co-sleeping. How this influenced my thinking: These findings showed me that there are benefits to co-sleeping and that bonding can take place while sleeping. Credibility of source: Ph.D. Research done at University of California's Irvine School of Medicine.

The researcher test their cognitive skills and behavior development. How This Influenced My Thinking: This influence my way of thinking that bonding can happen even while sleeping. Credibility of Source: the article was written by an author with a Ph.D and was found on Psychology Today.
