Identity can come from what your community requires of you, or something else. How this influenced my thinking: It really surprised me to see that we have a big hand in how we age. The better we take care of ourselves the better our old age will be. Credibility: Seems credible

Title: Caregiving Support & Help: Tips for Making Family Caregiving Easier Date: last update April 2013 Author: Melinda Smith, M.A. and Jeanne Segal, Ph.D. Why relevant and summary: This was a very interesting article that outlined some of the challenges of being a caregiver and how to handle the situation. Some of the tips where practical like, exercise, eat healthy or get enough sleep to more specific which had to do with how to handle the emotional burden of the situation. How has this influenced my thinking: This article was very interesting for me, because I currently support my parents, even though they are in good health and able to take care of themselves, still some of the issues outline in the article apply to my situation as well. Source credibility: The article was publish on a government website and the authors are medical professionals.

Title: Theory of Successful Aging Author: Admin Date of Publication: January 16, 2013 Summary and Why Relevant: this article is relevant because it talks about the stages of aging. how to combat it, what psychological tricks to play on yourself to not be depressed. it tells you theories of successful aging and ways to feel great about your age. How This Influenced My Thinking: this made me realize that age is more than just a number to some people. there are many clinical trials where age is involved, such as surveys for a specific group. it also made me realize that people deal with age differently, some are sad and depressed, while others welcome it like an old friend. Credibility: there are many resources to back up this information on this website. seems pretty credible.

How This Influenced My Thinking: I was able to relate the information from this source to my experience or observance of parents' experience with body changes in middle adulthood; I was able to learn tips for them that they combat old age with. Date published: 2013 Summary and Relevance: This article explains how important it is to co parent after a divorce and the beneficial effects that has on the child. How this changed my thinking: I saw that even with how destructive divorce can be on a child this can help them to cope. Credibility: Seems credible.

It also gives tips on what should be eating. As well, it gives you information on the proper amount a weight should be gained. How this influenced my thinking: This has influenced my way of thinking because I didn't know that have pregnancy there still should be a certain way to get your nutrition back in order. Title: Researching cause and effect Author: Lance Jones Date published: Jan 15th, 2012 Why is this relevant: This power point is relevant because it gives you many recources that would help someone understand what cause and effect is. For example, it provides you with background information on it, states the 3 main characteristics of it, on top of providing you with many examples that really help your understanding of the topic. The slide is very user-friendly and easy to understand. It even provides synonyms for words in case you don't understand. How this influenced my thinking: It has influenced my thinking in a couple ways. One, i never knew there were so many aspects to cause and effect. There are two variables that must be related, two sides to the correlation, and the cause must come before the effect and not vise versa. Two, it really helped me understand why a person would use the cause and effect method, and also why it might not be the best method for some types of studies. Credibility of source: Although id like to think this comes from a very credible source, there is not really anything on the site that indicates it is....

Title: Bronfenbrenner's Ecological Systems Theory Author: Dede Paquette and John Ryan Date Published: 2001 Why Relevant and Summary: Explains Bronfenbrenner's theory and connects it to modern child development and compares this to child development when the economy was more industrial, less technological. It also explains Bronfenbrenner's concerns with our technological world. The 5th page looks at the human body as a part of a person's microsystem, which was fascinating, especially since the textbook doesn't seem to consider this. How This Influenced My Thinking: Introduced the idea of the human body as being part of the microsystem - new to me! Also, I learned that this model can play a big role in influencing public policies, which is refreshing because as a student, it's easy to get caught up in this thinking that the classroom stuff isn't relevant or doesn't easily apply to the real world… but it can! Credibility of Source: Pretty good - the work cites a lot of educational resources, and I read the company profile, which seems to be run by qualified people.

How This Influenced My Thinking: It hasn't particularly influenced my thinking but has given a better understanding of how the theory applies. Credibility of Source: Good- (.edu website)

As well as stating what the theory is, the site also goes over in detail, all the different systems associated with Bronfenbrenner's ecological theory. There is also an illustration with various terms that provides links to sites that explain the implications of each theory. How it influenced my thinking: This site influenced my thinking in a positive way because it broke down what each system was, what it entailed, and gave examples of what was being discussed. Credibility of source: The source is very credible and is riddled with citations and works cited pages. The link to it also ends in usd.edu which means it is probably a site made by colleges for colleges.

Title: VS Ramachandran: 3 clues to understanding your brain Author: Vilayanur Ramachandran - neurologist Date Published: March 2007 Why Relevant and Summary: The debate of nature vs. nurture is considered when neurologist Ramachandran share his findings from rehabilitating those with brain injuries or brain wiring issues such as phantom limbs. This video argues that stroke paralysis, and phantom pains could be "learned" behaviors and not innately biological. How This Influenced My Thinking: In writing my paper I discuss traumatic brain injury in the developing children and how it influences processes. This video delves deeper into neurological development and behaviors which may be more of a product of environment than biology alone. Credibility of Source: Extremely credible - Lecture given by practicing neurologist.
