With a presence both on the internet and on TV (PBS), Teaching Channel calls itself a "showcase" of "inspiring and effective teaching practices in America's schools." The organization's mission "is to revolutionize how teachers learn, connect, and inspire each other to improve the outcomes for all K-12 students across America." Browse videos by subject, grade level or topic (all from the left-hand navigation). In addition, there is a blog. Users are encouraged to subscribe, and the Teachers space is also organized by subject and grade-level, as well as by roles. The site also provides a workspace.

The American Mathematical Association of Two-Year Colleges was founded in 1974. It is the only organization exclusively devoted to providing a national forum for the improvement of mathematics instruction in the first two years of college.

He introduces a new organization, the Association for Authentic, Experiential, and Evidence-Based Learning (AAEEBL), a professional association that focuses on e-Portfolios. Rodin heads the Rockefeller Foundation and, in this interview, discusses their new initiative to fund organizations that work on innovation processes. The two examples are crowdsourcing (they fund InnoCentive, a for-profit that sponsors contests to solve other company's R&D problems) and collaborative competitions (they partnered with Changemakers, where the participants collaborate on each other's solutions).

"A nonprofit organization that increases sharing and improves collaboration." Creative Commons recommended license is one of the standards for content that is freely shared online. The idea of open educational content has implications for teachers, students, publishers, colleges/universities, etc.

Based at Indiana University, "NSSE annually collects information at hundreds of four-year colleges and universities about student participation in programs and activities that institutions provide for their learning and personal development." According to NSSE, student engagement represents both "the amount of time and effort students put into their studies" and "how the institution deploys its resources and organizes the curriculum."

Author's abstract: This article suggests that a balance of the art and science of teaching is essential if the learning and teaching process is to be a meaningful and rewarding educational journey. This notion is explored through a dialogue, held over a 3 year period, with a developmental mathematics instructor at a community college who discovered that technique alone was not sufficient to becoming a good instructor. An unusual situation occurred as a result of the dialogue: Discussion of research-based literature on college teaching and personal experiential reflectivity merged and resulted in an organizing framework for understanding the artistic and mechanic elements of effective instruction. This is a Universal Design for Learning project built by CAST, a nonprofit R&D organization that uses Universal Design for Learning as a tool to improve learning opportunities for all individuals, including those with disabilities (originally Center for Applied Special Technology). By George Lorenzo, 2011. A renewed interest in community colleges is resulting in looking at driving factors for the future success. This report looks at the potential solutions proposed in papers that came out of The White House Summit on Community Colleges held on October 5, 2010. These include industry partnerships, providing a more well-rounded education with career training, better support services at community colleges,etc. Lorenzo mentions The Learn and Earn initiative, technology with online and hybrid courses, open education resources and other ways to engage students. He looks at college readiness and what Complete College America, a new nonprofit organization, advises as ways to address this shortcoming.

The mission of this organization is to improve community college effectiveness and student success by engaging in relevant and applicable research related to community college practice and policy.
