For your weekly spelling test use simple 1-10 or 1-20 numbered form (with a name question too of course) and ask the children to type in their answers as you read out the list of words. Once these are submitted apply formula to judge if they are correct or not and it becomes self marking.
Another useful post by one of my favourite Edubloggers. This guy just keeps on keeping on! This post is about google forms and how they can be used in the classroom. I used Google forms to create the staff survey on the 1:1 program. Imagine the students using this for the end of the week spelling test or maths diagnostics or any of these data collecting excersises completed using google forms and then instantly sent to a spread sheet.
A Maths Dictionary for Kids is an animated, interactive online math dictionary for students which explains over 600 common mathematical terms and math words in simple language.
This looks like an amazing site with loads of activities for teachers and students. Amazing when do people find the time to put this together and who is paying for it?
Yep Andrew, total agree! Not quite sure how the stages relate to VELS. But loads of open ended problems and games. Seems to have activities for just about all of the different areas of the Maths cirriculum.
Everyone should be using dropbox. Its the best way to back up your important data. No excuses for loosing your soooooo important Literacy and numeracy data now ;-)
From a student point of view... Most should and would be using google docs for any finished work but because they have an email account they might want to set a drop box account up to save any personal data etc
remember to read this and talk to sit team about it
Today I was lucky enough to be part of a small group of innovative educators from around Australia at a focus group in Melbourne. We were reviewing the Graduate Teacher Standards of the National Professional Standards for Teachers and elaborating on these in regards to ICT integration.
This is an exciting project which will shape pre-service education and hopefully bring about an exceptional standard of graduate teachers across Australia.
Despite feeling a little overwhelmed by acronyms, it was great to meet some Twitter friends face-to-face and engage in some stimulating conversation with like minded professionals.
Here is an excellent resource PDF if you are considering iPads or have already begun using them in the classroom. I encourage you to download the 28 page booklet….. iPads for Learning Getting Started…….Resource booklet for schools.
Some ideas around why we created @motmedu
Looking for a conference with a difference? What story do you have to tell? The #motm13 Unconference is built around stories for the purpose of making strong connections with other passionate educators who are integrating ICT with pedagogy.
Really, there are so many apps available it can be hard to know where to begin and once you find something that looks useful, it's difficult to assess it properly until you've download and installed it on your iPad. iPad music apps that are free can take away the risk of choosing a dud and they can be useful when book-listing apps for students on a tight budget.
Great post covering the basics of google maps. Segue...I had a great session with grade 2 integrating their map reading and story writing. Planned out a map and dropped markers on various landmarks around melb. Students in pairs were then allocated a marker with corresponding landmark and then had to write their part of the story. The Buck Institute for Education (BIE) received a generous grant from the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation to help promote and provide deeper learning opportunities for teachers and students. Recognizing that 11,000 teachers will participate in BIE's 3-day PBL 101 workshop in 2012, the Hewlett Foundation helped BIE expand its professional development resources and expertise online. Now BIE can work with every school and every teacher through PBL University (PBLU).
This summer, PBLU will pilot several Common Core aligned Math & English/Language Arts projects with complementary 2-week online classes. Teachers can receive PBL Teacher Certification from BIE, if they choose to complete all the necessary classes and implement the project with their students.
For years, almost no-one wanted to talk about education policy. Suddenly everyone is.
Of course, just because you can invoke the name of "Gonski" doesn't mean you've read the Sydney businessman's talismanic report on schools funding reform, much less understood it.
Schools funding is a complex topic. There's an alphabet soup of abstract acronyms (SES, AGSRC) and a spaghetti diagram of administrative structures. Funding for a particular school could include money from parents, from a major church, from a state or territory, and from Canberra. The formula is set with a bewildering array of equations, fed by the demographic chance of Census data.
