Discusses the benefits of computer-simulation technology in helping kids to learn. Simulation helps kids to understand complex issues and have real-world experience. A funny and well-written article that discusses how both simulation with technology or without is very benefiscial.

It's the next greatest gadget! I'm concerned about the emphasis once again being placed on the price and the tool itself instead of how it is impacting student learning.

This post answers the age old question "What do "real' teachers do with their Saturday morning other than sleep?" As a result of a great twitter national education forum on NPR's "Tell Me More" I came across this story of 200 teachers who get together on twitter every Saturday morning to discuss best practices.

Joining their Ivy League counterparts Stanford, Princeton and U.C. Berkley, Harvard and M.I.T. announced a $60 million joint venture to provide classes on line for free. However, these public nonprofit institutions will be in direct competition with private for profit companies like Coursera and Udacity who plan to provide not just classes but entire degree programs on line at greatly reduced prices to students worldwide.

This article explains how scientists can use twitter. It talks about how important twitter can be for scientists. In addition it discusses ways twitter can be used by scientists. I found this interesting because science is not only a passion for me but it is one of the subjects I hope to teach someday.

The use of computers in the early childhood schools has increased dramatically and is a powerful tool in education. Arguments arise out of fear that the computers will harm the child's emotional and social development.

This article discusses the impact technology has on k-12 classrooms. The technology revolution has forced teachers to move from the front of the classroom to the center. It has forced teachers to differentiate their instruction , get to know their students, and create digital learning materials.

Students love to tell stories! This is one of many tools that students can use to write, illustrate, and share stories.

Ultimate twitter-guidebook is full of resources. It list different areas including making the most of twitter, twitter educators, how to use twitter in the classroom, apps, and fun twitter experiments just to mention a few. I beleive this is a great resouce to have on hand.

This is an amazing resource for Social Studies teachers. There are archives for many podcasts by professionals pertaining to the social sciences in education. Definitely a site to revist and spend some time listening to the podcasts and becoming familiar with some very knowledgable people in the field.

These include: use of flip school model, evalutaing experience not test scores. precise focused education in place of mass produced curriculum, teacher as coach, 24/7 course access, life long learning and the end of compliance as an outcome. He ends with the question "What is school for?"

This video is about using technology for science education. One program is an after school program named Universe Quest that uses game building to teach girls astronomy. Another is a cyber lab that measures cell phone radiation with Geiger counters in Australia. It also includes augmented reality to find out how changing environmental laws might have impacted global warming. Th technology has allowed students to take learning into their own hands and gives them access to equipment that they otherwise would not have.

Love the idea of real life problems and technology. Great find!

This article, written in 2008, is about one teacher's experience using a wiki to share knowledge amoung teachers. It is a nice step-by-step look at the possibilities. I liked his enthusiasm.

I really like this website because it organizes technology tools according to learning objectives. As we discussed during week one, it is not just using technology in the classroom for the purpose of using technology, but it should be used to enhance learning by getting students engaged. This website reinforces this idea by displaying first what needs to be accomplished, and then offers the tools and links to get students involved in the learning process.

This article is published by Reading Rockets, an organization that helps teach students to read. The article gives an overview of some of the key elements of a warm, supportive, and engaging classroom. The Classroom Assessment Scoring System (CLASS) grades a room and then encourages teachers to make some changes for student success.

This article talked about how useful wireless calculators can be in a math classroom. The software allows the teacher to see what students are doing on their calculator and see if they are actually understanding the material. It also helps keep all students focused on the lesson because they know that the teacher can see if they are on task and can call on them at any time.
