This article explains how a teacher used the game Minecraft to help teach his first and second graders real world lessons. This "virtual lego" world will have students doing team work task that the teacher created before the class, in which they have to work together to solve puzzles. This is a great bridge between student and technology. Students are able to expand on their imagination and creativity to create such amazing worlds and do different tasks.This was a huge success for the teacher and showed an outstanding response.

Love it! :) I don't know if you know the Apple guys at the high school, but they were able to fix a "bug" with all the student computers before Apple even had a fix and they credited their solution to playing Minecraft! :)

I found this article very informative. The article talked about how Nooks were being used in an AP English class and how this form of technology has helped kids get more involved. The students were reading more and enjoying it more than ever. It also discussed the apps and tools the Nook has to offer to make the students reading more effective, like highlighters, dictionary and a way to take notes while reading. I think that anything that gets kids reading more and enjoying it is something we should look more into.

There are grants available for things just like this! Students definitely have their preferences when it comes to reading...Nooks, iPads, iPods, etc. Having different tools to choose from will provide flexibility and differentiation!

I bookmarked this to elaborate on 2 other articles I found because it is a very nice and visual tool describing the concept of a "flipped classroom." As a homework hater this concept is very exciting to me that the student come to class ready to engage rather than expecting the student to carry on enthusiasm at home AFTER the lecture. There are diagrams and drawings which really help me comprehend and remember an article. There are also useful links at the end. I will revisit this site for more articles that are as visually pleasing.

This article from MindShift is an excerpt from a new book by Will Richardson titled, "Why School: How Education Must Change When Learning and Information are Everywhere." Richardson is making an argument for not only the use of technology, but for the creation of classroom work that is authentic and meaningful in our changing world. He argues that our teaching practices must change in order to better prepare our learners when they leave the classroom.

This article highlights a couple really cool ipad apps that can be used in a high school math classroom. Everyone in my brother and sister's high school were issued ipads at the start of this school year so I really want to borrow one of their ipads and play around with these apps. I wasn't sure how I could introduce technology in my classroom and this article provided a few useful ways.

Great resource (again post to your page on your Google Site!). Some day you might be in a room with an iPad. I wish I could take high school again and focus on math. I could get the grades but I was NEVER confident.

I clicked on the link to iPad apps and it took me to a price page on the iPad. I don't know if ShowMe (https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/showme-interactive-whiteboard/id445066279?mt=8) was listed as one of the apps, but that is a must-have app in the math classroom! :)

This article explores the use of mobile phones for education purposes. The author says that instead of banning the use of cell phones and smart phones in school, teachers should embrace this technology and teach students how to utilize mobile capabilities in constructive and educationally appropriate ways. This gives a fresh perspective on the outlook of cell phones in schools and would be a great article for a teacher who might be reluctant to let students use mobile devices in class.

Lots of opposing viewpoints on the use of cell phones in the classroom! Will you let your students use them?

This article is about using blogs in science and math class. David R. Wetzel offer some ideas for teachers on how to use the bogs correctly and how using blogs benefit the students. I liked the idea of posting " how to" videos on the classroom for math problems.

Great article, Jennifer. So many of our math and science teachers post short videos on their websites to show students/remind students of the steps. You'll learn how to do this, also, this month.

If you liked his TED talk, you may enjoy his discussion of READING in the world of Kindle Fire and other tablets. I wrote a long (18 page) research paper for UNO about e-readers, so this article speaks to me. :-) Shirky explores SOCIAL READING and discusses its merits (or lack thereof).

You could establish a group and mark all the links you wish them to visit, direct them to certain sites for research, OR have them contribute to a community list like our CSM group. Discusses the benefits of computer-simulation technology in helping kids to learn. Simulation helps kids to understand complex issues and have real-world experience. A funny and well-written article that discusses how both simulation with technology or without is very benefiscial.

Technology is allowing for eductaion to become personilized and competency based. Online tools allow cirriculum to be delivered to the students and at peronalized pace with personal goals and structure. Students are different and I like the idea of allowing students to progress according to their ability.

I like this idea, too. Personalized pacing is key to my own learning.

This website has links and descriptions to several very cool, and actually useful sites. It contains nice categorization. A blog that will be updates with new info!

I think that this is a great article. I am in an English class right now and we were given an iPad to use for the class but our instructor didnt really now how to use the gadget. This would have been nice to have before we got the technology. The article points out a lot of apps that can be used to help with discovering elements of literature. It also gives examples of apps that can be used for a math class.

There are lots of of "App Lists" out there and it is important to look past the novelty of the iPad and apps and find matches to the content.

In this article, Michael Horn talks about the future of technology in education by way of the blended classroom. According to Horn, technology is shifting views of education in such a way that eventually, students will be learning online and at their own pace. He also talks about technology from the perspective of global education, and what potential exists for children from all corners of the world to connect and learn with one another.

This blog post explains two opposing viewpoints on uses of classroom technology. On one hand, technology enables student learning by often times being more engaging, while on the other hand, technology can be a distraction that inhibits student learning. Although both viewpoints have merit, it comes down to the course purposefulness, class appropriateness, and individual conduct of the technology user that reflects whether technology is a benefit or hindrance to particular classes.

This is a great article that describes using technology to extend the learning of our students in a social studies classroom. Emphasis is placed on the importance of using technology to make our teaching better and that teachers must be involved in a constant and consistent training program. The article highlights some great web-based sources for social studies teachers such as the Virginia Center for Digital History.

Stephanie: I like how this article doesn't leave the content behind. It was a wonderful "reinforcement" of the idea that technology needs to help and support the learning in a new way. Great find.

This article talked about how useful wireless calculators can be in a math classroom. The software allows the teacher to see what students are doing on their calculator and see if they are actually understanding the material. It also helps keep all students focused on the lesson because they know that the teacher can see if they are on task and can call on them at any time.

Wonderful find! Great example of technology and content merged

The author of this blog has addressed the issue of gaming in the classroom. He says that until gaming creators produce educational games that rival the quality of entertainment-only games, they will only be supplemental tools for the classroom and not primary teaching tools. BUT he does list a few really cool games he already implements in his classroom. I played around with some and was impressed--and interested in rummaging around on their home websites.
