This is a really cool site that I might just use for fun. You can read stories, but also create books/stories online, using pics and all kinds of other applications. It would be a great way to have students either assessed on material, as a project, or to give a presentation to the class in a fun, different way.
National Middle School Association Store. Online store for NMSA publications. Publications relating to beinga Middle Grades Educator. Subject matter includes: Technology, Teaching, Content Area Specific titles, Young Adolescent Developement, Research, Leadership, etc...
This is a great site to find readings focused on Middle Grade Level issues to further expand my knowledge and ideas on particular areas in education.
This is a wonderful site that includes many classroom strategies that build vocabulary, comprehension, and writing skills. By clicking on the link of a strategy, you may find downloadable worksheets and even detailed descriptions of how to use a particular strategy in mathematics, science, social studies, or English.
The great thing about this online dictionary is that it has an amazing amount of information. Most the newest slang terms in German can be translated using this dictionary. Another thing is that it specializes in German to English or English to German translations instead of mixing other languages in it. It also only translates basically word for word, so students can't try to cheat and get their grammer fixed on it. They still have to rely on their own skills. Useful if I want to students to read a modern German novel and they can't find a lot of words in their every day dictionaries.
this website tells stories of teachers all over the states that have gotten in trouble with the schools they teach at by saying things on facebook that they thought were private to their friends. These stories make you think and realize that facebook is more than just a social place to find friends and keep in contact with them. We must be careful with what we say on the internet these days. You never know who is reading what you post.
This is one of the biggest and most respected newspapers in Germany and always has the most uptodate information. I could use this as a way to practice reading and have an activity on the side for effective communication. Students would learn new vocab, use the language and catch up on what is important in Germany.
Dipity is a great tool for comprehension in the classroom! You can have students read a story or book and have them create their own timeline! The options are unlimited!
