The popular photo sharing website Flickr has introduced a new way to geotag your photos without revealing your location to the entire web. Flickr's new "Geofence" settings give users more granular control over their geotagged photos.

Last November, Google has removed the feature and option of people personalizing their backgrounds when they use the search engine on Goggle. But now personalized backgrounds are back! You can do this by just simply specifying that you want a certain picture to be your background.  This feature makes Google feel like your own and it's fun to do. Plus it adds a bit of flare onto the page instead of looking at a boring Google search page. You can also upload a photo if you chose for it to be your personalized background. 

Today is the first day of spring. There is this thing called "Shooting Challenge" and you have a whole month to shoot a photo of spring. It has become a bit of a tradition and some results are just unreal and breath taking. This contest ends April 15th. The are some rules to this contest though, submissions need to be your own, have to be taken this year, explain the story and technique behind the shot, email it to contest@gizmondo.com and include 970px wide image.It also reuqires one submission per person and proper subject for email.

This article is about a camera that is capable of not needing to charge in a outlet to power it. It only needs the sun, because its solar camera. The advantage of this camera from other camera out there, is you don't need electricity to power it, you just need the sun and your hand to power it. It also has a micro sd card slot and 15built-in digital filters. the dissadvanatge of this camera is it lacks  features, functionality and image quality.  limited photo resolution and basic 640x480 video capabilities.

Recently, there have been a lot of passcode exploits, especially on the iPhone and Samsun Galaxy. On the iPhone, it can allow the attacker to access their way into the Phone app, letting them place calls, see/edit contacts, and access photos via the "assign new picture" option. On the Samsung Galaxy, the attacker can flash whatever was open before the phone was locked for a second. This is enough time to launch an app, which can be repeatedly downloaded and completely unlock your phone. The article suggests the user of the phone should download the Apple's Find my iPhone app or Prey, which can track the location of your smartphone if it is ever lost or stolen. This, they say is the best protection for your personal information stored on your phone. These passcode exploits can let one worry and doubt how much protection the lock screen actually provides. The truth is they are no more secure than any other password or PIN, which means they can eventually be cracked. However, it is still suggested to always lock your screen, just in case it is robbed by someone who does not know anything about getting around locked screens. Many companies are aware of the issues and is releasing new techniques, like the iOS 6.1.3. Hopefully, with time, these password problems will not be an issue anymore.

the iOS hackers who wrote the evasi0n jailbreak for iOS 6, the beta for iOS 6.1.3 will patch at least one of the vulnerabilities that the evasi0n exploits in order to work. After 6.1.3, Wang stated that they may have to build a new jailbreak from scratch. Reports indicate that iOS 6.1.3 will also fix the passcode bug that's gone unpatched since 6.0.1 as well as the newly-discovered passcode bug in 6.1. This will deny any access to free aps that people want to download. Apple has stated a more serious security issue to push out its latest update. Earlier today, Twitter announced  a brand new update for it's searching features for the web and smartphones including Android and IOS. This new update adds a search button to the Iphone making it up to speed with Androids and any form of a tablet. Also, this update improves search results for photos, tweets and twitter accounts. Secondly, the connect tab automatically defaults to interactions which will display new followers, mentions as well as re tweets. Lastly, which is probably the most favourite new addition, is a change in Twitters mobile implementations handle links. Meaning, you can now click a URL directly from your twitter timeline without having to open a related tweet. This is the new twitter search update that was released earlier today. Make sure to install this update and the mobile site is already sporting the latest updates, but you will need to update your IOS or Android smartphone at their respective store.

This article talks about the problems Facebook could have if it were to be breached by a hacker. Facebook is one of the biggest social networking websites to date and is the biggest holder of personal information, and yet they have been able to keep this information safe from hackers. Comparing to Twitter who had 250,000 accounts accessed by hackers, Facebook has done a remarkable job to keep our information safe, and although they have been able to do so for now, eventually they will have to face the problems of hackers. When you look at Facebook over other social networking sites like Twitter and Tumblr, there is a big difference when it comes to privacy and security. Twitter, for instance, is a more public social networking site with the odd soul that locks their account from the public. Facebook has privacy by default, which means Facebook has a lot more to lose if they were to get hacked. The physical damage that would pertain to us would include some of our photos and messages might be stolen, and the worst that could happen would pertain to credit card information, but Facebook would jump on and respond to these problems with password changes and other stuff. The real damage that would hit Facebook hard would be the psychological damage, and it would nearly destroy them. When something big happens in our society, the media jumps on this and will twist the truth in the story to give us, the viewers, the best story that will manipulate us into thinking an entire wrong. Facebook would be all over the media, whether it be on the radio, on the internet, on the news or in newsprint. The world would know about what happened, and fear would sweep across the globe.  People would start asking questions about what is safe on Facebook and if it is safe at all. This article discusses the speculation that facebook may be already working on its own phone. They are hoping to release a facebook smart phone already by next year. The article states that Facebook has already hired more than half a dozen former Apple engineers who worked on the iPhone to help them create this phone. A Facebook-built smartphone would allow users to more seamlessly send messages, post updates and share photos or article links. Although it makes apps for iPhones and iPads, Facebook is still not integrated into Apple's mobile operating system. They are working on this because, more and more people are now using smartphones, tablets, etc. over computers and laptops. This would allow easy access to facebook anywhere they go without paying for data on your phone. In my opinion, this would be a good thing for frequent facebook users that maybe need it for jobs, just to stay connected, or simply they need to make a status about everything that they do. It would make it much easier to use facebook if they were to make such a phone. I am not a very frequent facebook user. I can wait to get home in order to use so if this phone would come out, I personally do not see a need for me to purchase it.

As a social generation, we use various online 'social networks' to connect with others and share information (e.g. photos, text, videos.) But has anyone ever considered integrating one of these networks into a scholastic environment? This is exactly what Assistant professor of education at Michigan State University, Christina Greenhow has found in a recent study. While most say that social networks like Twitter are poisoning the minds of our youth, destroying their grammar and face-to-face skills, Greenhow finds that using Twitter in her class has allowed for more engaged students proven to attain higher grades. By integrating Twitter into some of the class' exercises, Greenhow was able to contextualize the material into something the students could relate to, "The students get more engaged because they feel it is connected to something real, that it's not just learning for the sake of learning." Twitter; something bored students would initially hide from teachers in class is now seeing some valid and practical applications in the classroom. This article relates to the tag "eLifestyle" because teachers are constantly trying to integrate web-based teaching into their classrooms in this constantly evolving technological age. This relates to ICS20 because we are one of the classes in the school on the forefront of technology, integrating web services such as Codeacademy, Diigo and even Twitter to enhance our learning experience. This article is not meant to give students excuses to wander off to Twitter during class, but to show teachers the validity in using a web-based social network to improve their teaching methods in the classroom.

this article is about Google + improving their look, on the site making it easier to navigate and to get information.  Google+ will now offer profile pages that will include bigger photos, a la Facebook's Timeline, and feature a chat list that puts friends front and center on your page.

This article is all about Google+ just got a total overhaul to its already-pretty-pretty design. The layout, navigation, and features have all been updated. There's a new navigation ribbon on the left side of Google+ with draggable icons for for your profile, photos, hangouts, and other Google+ apps. Google's also emphasized sharing large photos and videos, from anywhere on Google-YouTube, search, etc. There's also a new Twitter-like trending box in the upper right corner of your homescreen, which ties into the full-network-trending Explore page.

Google Co-Founder, Sergey Brin, has given us a demonstration to how the Google glasses would look like if we were to wear them. And honestly speaking, they don't look very appealing. In reality, these glasses will be able to let us video chat, take photos, and buy things online as we walk around.  The design to it is kind of...awkward. They look like glasses but without the lenses and the rounded sockets for them. To put it simply, they resemble headbands put on the wrong way. While the idea and functions the glasses serve may seem appealing at first glance, I doubt that anyone would want to get these. I mean really, would you want to be walking around the streets sporting these glasses?

This article tells the readers about 7 apps that were released this week. The seven apps are Pair, Bump Pay, Fuze HD, Babbel forAndroid, MTA or Merifian, Paper, and Wonders of the Universe.   Pair is an app for many of those who are in a long distance relationship. They allow couples to create a private timeline, swap photos, share videos, and their location. The app also has "thumb kiss" feature that vibrates the phone when they both touch the same part of the phone. This app is available for iPhones. Bump Pay is an app that allows you to pay others by simply "bumping" your phones together. You would pay them using PayPal. Fuze HD is an video conference app that allows others to have a video chat with up to ten people on at once. You could  also send text, images, and other media during the presentation. Babble for Android is a language app. It has over 3000 vocabulary words, sounds, images, speech recognition and a personalized review manager for multiple languages. MTA on Meridian is a app that you can use to browse art of particular line or plan your own transit system art tour. Paper is a new app that allows people to draw diagrams and sketches and shared them with others on the web. Wonders of the universe is an app that lets you explore space with graphics and visuals.  I think that this article is interesting because it tells me many of the apps that I didn't know about.

This article tells the readers about a new game app on the iPhone called "Life of George." This game involves building with lego blocks. The point of the game is to build the structure with lego pieces that shows up on the screen under a certain amount of time. It may seem easy but it is apparently difficult and designed for people ages 14 and up. You would also need this mat that acts as a green screen for the game. Once you are done building the structure you would lay it flat on the mat and take a clear photo of it. Then the game will rate how fast you completed, and how accurate it was built.

This article is about this great new product called google glasses. This product that their making is basically like Siri in the Iphone 4S. The experimental "augmented reality" glasses--from the same team that is developing self-driven cars--can snap photos, initiate videochats and display directions at the sound of a user's voice. The prototype digital glasses, unveiled on the company's Google+ social network on Wednesday, are still being tweaked and tested, and are not available in stores yet.

A lot of people have been using instagram to take pictures and upload them. Instagram launched in October 2010, growing to 1 million users in the first 10 weeks of existence. It grew to 27 million users in the first year, according to stats from the Apple App Store. Today, Instagram has more than 30 million registered users, who upload more than 5 million photos per day. Now that Instagram is available on Android, which claims to have users that are twice as engaged as iOS users. It relates to the course because it shows how our culture gets influenced by the internet.
